WrestleMania XI

He only worked one match in '94 and was only supposed to work one in '96 but he got called in to work three house shows against the Kid* to make up for Razor and Diesel** missing the shows in East Rutherford, Pittsburgh and Cleveland. They did do an angle after Rumble '95 where he and Shawn got into it so that could have led to a match but after Shawn turned face there was no place for it. Except with Piper as a heel which they probably didn't want to do because they were considering Piper for the never-filled imaginary "Babe Ruth role." And they didn't really have anyone else for him to work with who would have drawn.

* From what I've read these were more brawl than match. Although the one in Pittsburgh went 12 minutes to who knows. Piper thought so highly of Waltman's working ability that he requested to work with him in WCW the next year.
** Hall was conveniently suspended after giving notice that he was leaving but Nash was injured and was supposed to be in three-way main events with Bret and Taker. I'm guessing it was more the absence of Nash in these three major markets that necessitated a big-name replacement in Piper.

- HHH was rumored to be Shawn Michaels body guard before Sid got the gig. WCW had HHH to a binding contract. They even offered him a tag title push with Regal to try and keep him around.
Now I'm curious if Triple H comes in as the bodyguard to replace Diesel, does he still come in with the rich snob "Blue Blood" gimmick or would it be more of a generic proto-1998/1999 look and vibe?

Would they also eventually do the heel turn on Michaels with Triple H? I feel like Sid being a "name" propelled that aspect vs. a "nobody" like Triple H coming in to be Shawn's backup. Triple H also took a while to really develop his aura/mic skills so I'm also wondering how long he'd have stuck around with Shawn given Shawn's eventual face turn and WM 12 World Title win on the horizon.

No way they put green beanpole HHH in that spot. Vince would never allow it.

If it can't be Sid, it doesn't work half as well. That said, Ron Simmons.

Yeah HHH and Shawn are the same size in 1995, don't see how Helmsley gets the gig even if he gets an ensemble similar to '93 Diesel.

It's safe to assume it was a BS rumor since none of the 1000 of Kliq documentaries ever mentioned it. It could have been something Vince would have pitched to HHH to try and sweeten his option to jump to the WWF with no money offered vs WCW's 156K contract.

If the plan was always to hot shot the bodyguard role into a Shawn face turn, then HHH would have had to swim a lot faster than he did or it would have just been HHH doing a bunch of house show jobs and ending up fodder. He probably still becomes the Kliq bag handler and this is saved long term, but still.

Piper vs Owen would have been fun and had a sort of built in back story from WM 8 and 20....but Piper/Bret vs Owen/Backlund sort of completes the Survivor Series story. Probably make it a No Holds Barred match like the Owen/Bret match was at the Sunday Night Slam that was building WM 11.

They'd have to do something to exchange Piper in for Bulldog but I like this. Have interference and a wild brawl non-ending to set it up during the TV no holds barred match. And with the star power and significance, it adds a third main event to a WM that needed it.

I wonder how to bring back Yoko effectively if Owen is finishing the Bret feud with Piper & Backlund at WM. Maybe the tag title match is different, just a regular defense against some team and no mystery partner. Yoko returns after the Allied Powers-Blu Bros match and flattens Luger and Bulldog. If he returned in decent enough shape, there could be singles matches with Luger (a blowoff there would've been nice) and Bulldog (which could lead to Davey's heel turn and joining Cornette). Luger/Bulldog-Owen/Yoko tag matches could main event a B-town tour as well.

It’d be a shit show but Cornette sells Yoko to Dibiase and we get Yoko/Bundy or Yoko/Tatanka tag team to program with Allied Powers.

We had the Twin Towers, we had the Skyscrapers, and we could've had the Four-legged Walking Condominiums.

Yoko and Bundy teamed at a handful of house shows in 95. I can’t remember the circumstances of how they were thrown together but it was a thing that happened

If they came to my (closest) town and I missed it because I was an 11 year old neer-do-well, don't tell me :(

Putting the Yokozuna return on Raw, or even at the very first IYH, makes sense to me. At Wrestlemania, run Gunns/Kama and IRS or something and have Taker cost them the match. Or just turn MOM sooner and use them. But you can easily do the Owen story on Raw leading to Yokozuna, or build it further to make an additional hook for the new ppv schedule.

I like that too. Mabel might've been taken more seriously if the heel turn had more time and success before he won the King of the Ring.

Jabroni payday battle royal - Yoko is the surprise entrant and wins it to kick start his return.

Yoko, IRS, Kama, Volkoff, Tatanka, Hakushi, Jean Pierre Lafitte, Mantaur, Sionne, Fatu, Doink, Kwang, Aldo Montoya, 123 Kid , HOG, Dumpster, Erik Watts, Chad Foutune, Luke, Butch, Dr Tom, Jimmy Del Rapist, Well, Dunn, Adam Bomb, Bob Holly, Mabel, Moe are all active.

You can even have Mabel tossing out a few babyfaces to tease the heel turn.

Shit there are some potential good matches that could have been done with the extras.
Something like Yoko, Kwang and Hakushi as the vaguely oriental heels vs Adam Bomb, Barbarian and Fatu....
And if workrate was a thing Vince cared about.... Aldo, Kid, Holly vs Heavenly Bodies and Pierre (Technically Mantaur works better as he was also with Corny)
HOG squashes Doink to finally end the pain. Dink is saved by the Bushwackers to become their mascot.

Wasn't Waltman hurt and needed limited involvement? If he was healthy I assume we get Kid/Roadie or something along those lines. Maybe Kid and Holly/Well Dunn or something is the pre-show.

If Hakushi is in play, have him kill off Kwang.

They really should've blown off Luger/Tatanka and had Bulldog/IRS. Both allied powers end up making the save for each other and immediately become a team the next night or something

1-2-3 Kid was working in Japan the week of WM and resumed working in the states on the next tapings after WM so he was assuredly healthy to work that show.

Then fuck it, let him do something. Kid/Tatanka is solid and Kid/Roadie would possibly be sneaky good.

the easy move is give us the proper Harts brothers match and just do Kid-Backlund on the basis of Backlund being disgusted by the youth and we can get J.T.T to escort Kid to the ring.

I'd run Piper/Backlund in a crazy old man fight.
