Yes sir.

Google redirects, I can't access Yahoo! without an error, and I have Vimex ads at every site I go to. Anyone know what this could be?

Do you get pop ups? It sounds like adware.

No pop-ups. Just the google redirect, Yahoo! won't run in IE and the Vimex ads. My computer also seems to be running a little slower too.

I also get this infection warning asking me to install something, but I don't. This all started yesterday, and I can't get rid of those Vimax ads

Also, my computer keeps freezing and it makes me sad.

I'm running Crap Cleaner, and tomorrow I'll try the program oldskool mentioned. The Malawarebytes program sounds promising, but it doesn't seem to work on my computer

So, to update, since I coudn't do a damn thing I just bit the bullet and reinstalled Vista. It makes it very clear during installation that it's going to remove all of your files, but thankfully it appears everything is archived in a folder called "Old.Windows" (I was most concerned about losing my digital photo collection which is in the thousands at this point - I can just get most of the originals off of my flickr account, but that's a pain).

Right now it's a matter of installing the old drivers Dell sent with the computer back in the fall (I had to install something to make the widescreen monitor have a correct display setting, for example) and such. I'm not exactly sure what the story on my malware infection is... I'm able to sucessfully use the internet without redirects and obviously I can install things properly now, but when I used the version of Firefox I had sitting in the old Windows folder, bam, I got the ad pop-up (which is actually the least annoying aspect of it). So, and maybe I'm off here, my thought process is the malware is confined to my old files and I should be able to sweep it clean with malwarebytes now. Hopefully I don't mess anything up again.

Combofix hates me, it now freezes up my computer whenever I try to run it. I'm running in safemode now, and I think I was able to knock out the malware using that program Cowboy Numbers gave me

Did you run malwarebytes (aka "that program Numbers gave me") in safe mode? I want to do the same, but I now have some strange belief going into safe mode was the "unauthorized change" to Windows that forced me to reinstall the whole thing. My main concern is that when I ran Norton on my old PC and wasn't in safe mode, it deleted the files the fake virus alert virus infected (that one wasn't my fault, btw...) and made the computer unusuable. No clicking on icons. No internet. No taskbar. Fun stuff.

I ran malware bytes in safemode and it got rid of ten things.

Now when I try to start Windows in (unsafe?) mode, I think combofix is trying to do something, but either way it freezes immediately and I can't do anything. So I'm stuck in safe mode.

I freely admit that I'm an idiot and running combofix by myself was stupid, but now I just want it gone

Okay, interesting query.

I keep getting a pop up saying, "You might be the victim of software counterfitting" from Windows, which is highly probable since my friend built my computer on the cheap, so I'm 90% sure I'm running off a modified Windows. I'd have no issue "authenticating" but I'm not sure if the thing is actually from Microsoft or if that'd just be opening myself up to an electronic gang banging.

I'd just ignore it, but it likes popping up when I'm in the midst of playing games thus screwing everything to hell. It also takes down my wallpaper with a message that I didn't meet Windows Verification.

Oh, yeah, this was the part after that.

My uncle happened to call me out of the blue and he's a tech support guy and talked me through it, the problem got resolved. Thanks, mang.
