WWF New Generation Thread III

Tbf that roster was painfully shallow on the face side at the time. If anything it just makes me wish Backlund was good enough to carry shitty Ray Apollo.

it’s probably best considering what happened with him a few months later but by summer 1994, Crush probably should have just returned to his Kona ways and he would have really elevated the face side of the company.

I was just listening to a months old "Shut up and Wrestle" with the author of Titan Sinking. He says Bret was going to beat Flair but the timeline was sped up due to Flair's inner ear issue. Then because of that Bulldog had the IC belt taken off of him sooner than planned because "Vince didn't want 2 babyfaces as champions". Feels like a golden chance to turn Davey given he just beat Bret and now is the nominal number 1 contender as IC champ. If you get an extended family feud in early 93, you can even kick start the Owen turn in a different manner. Although I don't see Davey getting the World title given his known drug use already.

I wonder if Shawn/Marty was going to just be a non title feud? Bret vs Shawn at SSeries was originally with neither man as champ and when that booking was done they probably were not set on rehiring Party Marty one way or another.

Almost feels like they should have just given it back to Macho and had him put over Ramon at Rumble to build to Bret getting his first win at Mania. But who knows with Hogan coming back that may have flushed Bret out of ever getting the belt and he'd wind up in WCW whenever possible.

The author also claims Warrior was asked to go heel at Summerslam 92, which would have been a weird dynamic for Flair to work with - 2 different styles of cocaine promos y'know?
Then who knows if Razor ever gets a chance as a top guy or continues being a footnote in the list of guys with potential who never made it?

that just makes me wonder what a Razor-Hogan program would have looked like in 93.

in the proposed idea of a hotshot with Savage to Razor to Bret, how does Yoko shake out. Do they just stretch the unbeaten streak to KOTR and gets the title there? Do they feed him Tatanka at WM for a streak vs streak angle or just go with Hogan then.

it’s a big sliding door if Razor gets a cup of coffee as champ because it changes his narrative and it’s an even bigger deal for Kid to upset him just weeks after Razor was champ.

The story I've always heard is that Shawn was just going to beat Bret for the IC at (The) SummerSlam if they couldn't have it at Wembley. So who knows what the Bulldog plans would have been but Shawn was always going to end up with it

With Bulldog/Mountie listed as the IC title match in the preview, I wonder if Shawn beats Bret at SSeries then and Bulldog eats the loss at Rumble?

I wonder if Warrior would've done the heel turn at Summerslam 92 if the end game was fleshed out for him (I'm assuming it was another half-baked McMahon thing). The dumbest thing about that ppv was Flair not booked to wrestle. Give him a good opponent on the 3rd match, go 15-20, get the next title shot. Flair and Perfect interfere and try to play Savage and Warrior off each other like kids with divorced parents. Hijinks leads to Savage getting a sneaky win. Warrior snaps and clotheslines Macho Man, shoulder tackles, press slams, the whole works. Even attacks the injured leg after avoiding it during the match. But he doesn't touch Flair and Perfect while leaving the ring.

Record several promos at the next TV making Warrior a tweener leaning to heel.

Next TV taping: More promos. Vignettes of Perfect, Flair, and Warrior (with hints of it possibly being like the Liz photoshop stuff earlier that year). And a few squash matches over face-y jobbers...walks to the ring, little or no makeup.

Roll out a bunch of new Warrior merch. Darker motifs, etc. Make him and WWF money even as a heel (or heel lite anyway).

Flair keeps belt instead of Saskatoon and rests while Warrior works the A tour as the "heel." I think it'd sell at least as well as IRL. Do heel vs heel main events (Warrior vs Kamala, etc). Sept and October TV continues this. HBK gets IC at SNME, Flair does an in-ring promo, Warrior has another dark tweener promo, Bret gets a big win as he's still being pushed to the main event circa '93.

Do a traditional main at Survivor Series. Flair, Perfect (Jack Tunney makes him work after all the interference over the past year), Warrior, Razor vs Macho Man, Davey, Bret, Undertaker. Make all 8 look like main eventers by putting them in the main event. Do Boss Man-Nailz stip, Shawn-Marty I, and Lawler's debut underneath with 2-3 more traditional matches.

Keep momentum going on TV into the new year and the first Raws. First Raw main event is Flair vs Savage. When it looks like Savage is about to win the belt back, out come Perfect and Razor (banned from ringside earlier in the show) with a bunch of lawyer types. Flair clips Macho's knee while he's distracted. Warrior runs out next (first time he's done a running entrance in months), circles the ring, and, before any of them can help Flair, Warrior runs into the heel contingent. Lawyer types go flying. Perfect jogs away to keep protecting his Lloyds gimmick. Razor falls and gets up to confront Warrior. Savage cradles Flair and wins the belt for the third time. First Raw goes off the air with a Razor-Warrior staredown, Perfect and Flair arguing, and Macho celebrating.

Rumble: Double main event. Savage-Warrior III and the Rumble match. Razor runs in, Warrior wins belt; Razor wants to celebrate but Warrior just walks to the back, Savage attacks Razor after. Bret wins the Rumble and the WM title shot.

Perfect turns and the first Flair match main events another Raw. Do the loser leaves at WM IX.

I like the streak vs streak idea above so keep pushing Yoko and Tatanka as undefeated.

Hogan returns but you can keep it self-contained as a tag team match as the main event/world title scene is doing fine.

WM 9
Ultimate Warrior vs Bret Hart. Warrior runs out and works match as a face. Better in-ring version of WM 6. Bret wins. Start shifting Warrior back to face over the summer to work with Yokozuna later in the year
Hogan/Beefcake vs Money Inc
Flair vs Perfect loser leaves town
HBK vs Marty III (do a Raw match between Series and here)
Macho Man vs Razor Ramon (maybe a stip here for the blowoff)
Undertaker vs Bam Bam Bigelow
Lex Luger vs (babyface) El Gigante
Yokozuna vs Tatanka streak vs streak
Steiners vs Headshrinkers
Lawler vs Backlund
8 man tag or battle royal to get others on the card

Shane Douglas has said that the plan was for him to beat Shawn for the IC title at IYH 4 and then lose it back to him at Mania 12. I can't believe that's true since Shawn seemed above the ic title at that point and seemed destined to be the next guy. But I guess maybe they hadn't decided Shawn was the guy yet in Oct. 95. So who does Bret wrestle at mania if that was the plan. Does Bret keep the title or not

I could see the endgame being Douglas/Ahmed but not much else. Recreate the Warrior/Honky moment to cement Ahmed and kill Douglas for good. There's absolutely no way Douglas/Shawn happens again until a random Raw after Shawn has the title and Bulldog or whoever can get heat for interfering.

If they do an Oct-Mania Shane-Shawn program, maybe they keep the belt on Diesel longer. He keeps the belt at Survivor Series AND turns heel in the process. Bret wins the Rumble and gets the win over Diesel at WM 12. Could be quite a ripple effect if it means Nash stays longer, the NWO maybe doesn't happen or it's later/different, etc.

Hall still leaves, Piper is the 2nd guy. They mock WCW for weeks, challenging all the top guys, including Hogan, who the announcers and Gene make sure to point off is off filming a movie and can't defend himself. Piper is more crazy uncle than Nash's cool uncle. Hogan is the third man and is feuding with Piper by Havoc regardless.

Pretty much checks out. Every time my family checked in on my watching wrestling growing up it was always the most embarrassing shit. Not the technical wrestling wizardy. The funniest is when I was watching at a friend's and he walked in on me watching Viscera dry hump his opponent.
