I've been on a kick to bump up my achievement score lately. I've been busting out old games and doing achievements I hadn't completed just for fun. This week I "completed" three games alone by breaking out my copy of Madden 06 which I still had like two achievements left to complete and playing for the first time some notoriously easy titles (King Kong and NBA 2K6). I know on some games where I am close, due to the online achievements, I may not get them due to either no one playing (TNA Impact) or the server being shut down (several EA games over a year old).

I figured we should have a thread where people can talk about achievements, or maybe in the case of some of those online ones, get some help from others on the board.

Also, to start this thread out, here is an interesting petition I came across. The Hellboy game that came out only has 840/1000 available because the other 160 were supposed to be available via free downloadable content. Someone at a game achievement site is getting a petition together for this to be released. For those interested in getting that available, or just bored enough to sign something to help a fellow gamer, the link is here: http://www.petitiononline.com/x360aHB/petition.html

I have barely played my 360 in the month plus since I bought a Wii, but my Gamerscore stands at 16,990.

I wasn't that into it when I first got my system, but it was just a fun little thing. In some cases, it gives you more motivation to play a game, as there are different things you can still do when the game is over. Maybe you beat a game, but here are some extra challenges. I hadn't been able to play my system for a while, so I just got playing more stuff and with more score going up, it just got me playing other things to see how high I could get my score to go.

Good achievements are the ones that make you try playing a game a different way or on a harder challenge. Sometimes I find achievements can add some replayability to games. Most of the time they aren't really used to be that clever though.

I am addicted to them.

If life had a little bloop noise and an achievement unlocked notification...I would be the hardest working biggest success ever.

Oh, you mean like in Mega Man 9, where one of the achievements is completing the game without getting hit?

That game takes it to a ridiculous level of difficulty. The fucking game is hard enough as is.

I haven't even gotten 1 achievement on that game. The previous Mega Man games were easy. The 9th one, not so much.

Little under 43k. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I've had my 360 since launch, so it works out to roughly a game a month. I'm still a scorewhore, but I'm not buying games specifically for achievements any more. I'm basically in the same boat as Coleman's first paragraph.

Almost 14k (see below). Me and a mate at work are competing to see who can get to 20k first, since we both got to 10k at the same time. Before this we never really cared about GS and just had a laugh playing games, but now? NOW ITS ON!

Oh yeah...I'm over 60,000 now. Thanks to Gamefly. I have played some bad bad games in competition with people on my friends list (only 1 left to catch and I'm only a little over a thousand behind)... And the Hannah Montana game and its easy thousand points just arrived!

Seriously though...I wasn't a gamerscore whore until I got into my legal trouble last year...but now I'm stuck at home a lot...and I hate reading.

I think I'm at like 11k or so. I like the achievement system in general, but a lot of games have ridiculous requirement to get the points and considering the score doesn't actually do anything I don't go out of my way to get points. I think I've only hit 1,000, and they were fairly easy to get 100%. Most games I send back to Gamefly at around the 300-400 point mark because I've beat it and done everything I've wanted to do, and I don't see the point in grinding for 600 points that do nothing.

To get people to buy more games. :p

The easiest way to build them up is to rent or buy a lot of games. If you focus on one game at a time, you don't actually get many points. The ones you get for just playing/finishing the games usually are the bulk of the ones that are made for the game.

There are actually a lot of games that seem to be designed to get people to rent/buy them because of easy achievements. Peter Jackson's King Kong The Official Game of the Movie is infamous for this. :p

Avatar The Last Airbender: The Burning Earth is perhaps the most ridiculous. Start the game, mash the attack BUTTon--1000 points in like 3 minutes. Srsly, check youtube!

Um, I have just a little over 10K.

TNA Impact had some seriously easy achievements. I racked up near 800 without playing online.

That's true. I picked up the Avatar game with no knowledge of Avatar last summer because I was on game buying binge and found it for like $8 brand new. Last week, I saw that thing online about full achievement in a few minutes and I think I got it quicker than the video even. It was crazy.

The TNA game does have a lot of non-online ones, a couple more I still need to get (the one where you have to use Shark Boy to beat every roster member and the 25 wins in one sitting), but no one plays that game online these days, so I don't think I'll even get a shot at completing it. Same as SVR 2008. All I have left are online achievements.

I beat LOST: Via Domus last night for the full 1000 and got to working on Legends of Wrestlemania, as it didn't look too hard. I got really close to the Medal Winner on one sitting, but the Rock/Austin must get every point was throwing me off. Reason being that stupid 'Block Bottom' one. I beat the hell out of the Rock, then in trying to get him to attempt the Rock Bottom on me so I could reverse, he'd beat me a little and then do these simple moves at the point I wouldn't be able to kick out. Turned it off for last night, we'll see if I try it up again.

My completed games list (not too impressive so far, based on the titles):
College Hoops 2k6, NBA 2k6, Avatar: TBE, Madden 2006, Peter Jackson's King Kong, TMNT and Lost: Via Domus.

I've actually been tempted to rent it for the achievement points--because I'm a fan of the show, I beat the *entire game* on PS2 and so it's like, I earned them. :p

...the show is really good, okay?

TNA achievements require playing that game for more than 5 minutes, and that's just not a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

I'd be willing to help someone with online achievements for TNA Impact if you help me as well. The shit's glitched, though. Playing online, I beat a friend who had "Planet Jarrett" several times and didn't get the achievement. A guy I know trained with Samoa Joe back in the day and has him on his friend list. He beat Joe and didn't get the achievement. But as far as I know, the TNA Champion achievements work. We'd just have to alternate between beating each other about 63 times in a row.

I'd probably be down for that. I don't have many achievements left to get in the game.

Cool. We should do that sometime.

I only have 345 achievement points for that game. I got stuck on Kevin Nash in story mode. 2 finishers, multiple chairs, and the fucker still beats me with a few quick strikes and a jackknife.

I took my opponents outside and just kept beating them (because after a certain point they can reverse you and pin you pretty quickly) until I was damned sure they weren't getting up. That game gets fucking hard by the end of storymode.

I did that, too, but once we got back in the ring following the 2 finishers and use of all chairs, Nash went into beast mode.

Nash took me a couple tries too. Him and Sting took a couple tries but I breezed by Angle and a couple others surprisingly fast. By the time I got to Jarrett, I thought I was going to have to blood sacrifice a baby to the Alter of Slapnuts to unlock the achievement.

I owned the game for about two days, got 800/1000 (only ones missing are the online ones and the Shark Boy one) and returned it today for Lost: Via Domus.

How easy is the Lost game?

I'll echo bps. As long as you know what to do because it is fairly repetitive, you will get 1000 easy. Just know in every flashback, there is an achievement to be earned and you have to do it before you talk to annyone because that takes you out of the flashback.

I think it took me 2 days to get the full 1000 in Lost, only because the game was so fucking boring I couldn't force myself to go through it in one sitting.

Just bumping this thread because its been a while. Good place to post if anyone is trying to complete a game and wants someone on here to buddy up to help with co-op/online or just looking for help. Another thing I wanted to point out for any completionists out there who may have played it. EA is shutting down the servers for NBA Live 07 on February 2nd. One of the game sites I look at for achievement help sometimes is doing a session to help people get the "Be Online when 1000 People are" achievement before the servers close. Looks like they are aiming for January 31. I had picked this game up for $5 a couple years ago, so I'll be playing to make sure I get the achievement. The information is below.

nbalive07.jpg

Well, people have been asking about this for over two years now. And the time has finally come! EA have announced the server for the game will be turned off on Feb 2nd. We have chosen Sunday January 31st for the date. The times will be:

7PM: Central Europe (GMT +1)
6PM: UK (GMT)
1PM: US Eastern (GMT -5)
Noon: US Central (GMT -6)
11AM : US Mountain (GMT -7)
10AM : US Western (GMT -8)

We will follow the same process we went through last time. We will have multiple x360a rooms set up, with staff and senior members heading up the rooms. Obviously, the more people the better. There are various theories that 1 person can have 4 controllers signed in which count, others don't believe that this theory counts. We will be trying to track down a definitive answer from EA in the coming weeks.

Anyway, this is only going to work if everybody helps to spread the word. Please forward this thread to as many people as possible, as many communities as possible. Blog it, tweet it, Facebook it, text it. Do whatever you can. We've done this once already, let's do it again. Will be a good opportunity to get a shiny new Award badge

More details will be announced closer to the day, but for now we have a date to work with

I'm rapidly approaching the 100,000 point line.

Probably sometime this month.

Then and only then will I be forced to recognize that I have a problem.
