Gaming With GADD

Week ending 1/14/14

Wednesday

Cloudberry Kingdom
Seriously guys, this game is getting so hard now. I can only complete a single digit number of levels now before I’m ready to rage quit out of it.

UNO
Just pretend I wrote this down for every day this week. Really. I discovered that UNO is the perfect companion piece to watching a movie. It’s *almost* like I’m doing something else, but you don’t really have to think about it at all. Plus UNO is the best game on the 360. If you think it’s anything else, you’re wrong. Period. WRONG!

Thursday

Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom
Holy balls. This game wins “run animation of the year” for EVERY year. Dude is just high stepping everywhere like a freakin madman! Other than that I barely played any of this at all. The ADD was kicking in *hard* tonight. Every time I’d start playing, I’d think of something else to do and wind up on the computer for a good 15 minutes at a time. I think it took me over 2 hours just to get out of the most basic of tutorials. That’s when I realized it just wasn’t gonna happen.

Friday

Cloudberry Kingdom
I’m beginning to hate myself and life in general at this point. I don’t know why I keep playing other than my own stubbornness and refusal to let this mother fucker beat me. I actually beat around 10 levels or so of this today, getting CLOSE to the last set of 40.

Saturday

Super Mario 3D World
At first I played this multiplayer with people who know next to nothing but “Hey it’s Mario! I like that guy! Let’s play this!” So fucking awful. “Move! move this way. Follow me. jump! JUMP! DO SOMETHING! DON’T JUST STAND THERE! …Now you’re dead. For the 8th time. In the first level.” Don’t worry women, I now understand the pain you go through with childbirth. Later during the football games I played by myself, using the off screen tablet play for pretty much the first time ever. The game itself is way more enjoyable in single player, and the off screen play worked shockingly well, at least as long as I didn’t try to walk away, then it got framey as hell. This is definitely a game I want to continue playing, but only single player.

Cook, Serve, Delicious!
At halftime of the second game I loaded this up to kill some time, and man, going from not playing CSD in 8 months to getting thrown right in to a restaurant with seven serving stations is brutal. I was trying to remember how to make one food item while 3 more just came in and demanded their shit NOW. My fingers were sore after just one day in the game, which is all I had time to do before it was time for more footbaw. But damn this game is fun as dicks, I forgot how much I enjoy CSD. I should get on that more.

Sunday

Cloudberry Kingdom
I tried to play more of story mode, but I just did not have any interest in hating myself today, so I jumped into arcade mode instead. Arcade mode is a nice peaceful romp compared to late stages of story, it’s actually *fun.*

Remember Me
Popped this in for the very first time and man did it just lose me RIGHT AWAY. The complete lack of gameplay combined with a generally uninteresting setup for a story had me instantly thinking about everything else I could be doing. Press up until you get to the next cutscene is just not fun in any situation. I will admit that once it stopped playing like Metal Gear Solid and started playing like a REAL video game (yeah. I said it) it seemed like it could be genuinely fun, but I was already mentally checked out by that point and just couldn’t care less. I’ll be back to check on this later and see if it can win me back.

Monday

DYAD
I only played the opening bit but…it’s basically Amplitude/Frequence with tracks that are nowhere near as clear? Is that about it? I’m not dissing this game, but my eyes just weren’t ready to handle what was happening on screen when I loaded it up. I went into NBA Jam: On Fire edition and played literally less than a single quarter before deciding that wasn’t what I wanted to be playing.

Bit.Trip Runner 2
YEAH BITCHES! COMMANDER VIDEO IS BACK! You thought I was done writing about this game on account of that whole “beating it” thing, but you were wrong! I went back in and cleaned up some of the achievements I missed, but in no way do I plan on getting 100% of the trophies, because FUUUUUUUUCK that trophy for getting triple perfect+ on each level. That basically means beating each level on all 3 difficulties while getting all the gold and boosts AND making sure to hit the bullseye at the end of the level each time you beat it. Yeah no, that’s not happening.

Tuesday

Fuel
I know nothing about this game other than it’s a racing game and for some reason I’ve stupidly watched the 2 hour Let’s Play that Achievement Hunter has done for this game…twice. And now after having played it for almost 2 hours, I can tell you that I still don’t know much about it. It’s got a huge open world (as in ridiculously huge) and there are races scattered across it. The AI seems capable, but the events themselves are just so bland. Everything in this game is completely competent, but also so incredibly lifeless. At least so far, maybe there is hidden depth somewhere, or at least variety in the events later on. I sure hope so at least.

Cloudberry Kingdom
Woo! I finally beat Chapter 6 and “beat” the story mode! There’s still another chapter left which I guess is supposed to be a bonus chapter, but I’m gonna beat it just the same. It should only take 4 months at my current pace. Seriously just getting out of chapter 6 felt really damn good.
I was definitely expecting to play more Long Live the Queen this week so that I could try to get further and learn from past mistakes, but that never happened. So I’m gonna be totally screwed whenever I do play it again. I don’t even know what I want to play next week, I just feel like I was so down on almost everything I played this week. Maybe more Remember Me? More masochistic Cloudberry Kingdom? Other than that, I’m not really sure.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK:

Screw it, it’s not even a question this week, it’s just a request. My PSN friends list is empty as hell. Send me friend requests! Fazzle1 is both my PSN and Xbox Live name. Hit up my inboxes!
