Week ending 5/13/2013
Tuesday
Unlike most weeks, I actually got in some gaming on a Tuesday! I know it’s shocking!
Cook Serve Delicious
Played for a couple of days this time and did the second Iron Cook challenge, where you have to cook tons of dishes quickly with only 2 allowable errors. FUCK pizza, I never make it in my restaurant because of how complicated it is and how many ingredients there are to possibly worry about, and the Iron Cook challenge just reminded me of how much I hate it.
Wednesday
Downloaded Doritos Crash Course 2
I still say they boned up big time by not naming the first game Crunch Course, maybe it’s just me. I played for about 10 minutes until the servers crashed and I got booted. Great launch guys! They finally came back up around 9 hours later, and after putting some real time into it…I’m not sure how I feel about the game. The basic game-play, which for those who don’t know is a platformer in the style of an obstacle course, ala the TV show Wipeout, is still the same as the original, which I found to be a lot of fun, but buried beneath it is a cell phone/F2P level store that they’re hoping to micro-transact the hell out of you in. I think I’m going to put more time in with it and see how I feel.
Thursday
Played some Crash Course 2 multiplayer. I’m starting to come around to it, but it still feels sketchy from a business perspective. Barely put any time into it though, and then moved on to
Tales of Vesperia
WOO! Beat that boss that kicked my ass last time I played it a week and a half ago. And…SHOCKER, it wasn’t the end no matter how much the game tried to act like it was. After that the game decided to throw in A LOT of backtracking (like….holy shit game. Why?) and without going into detail and having too many spoilers, it then briefly turned into a freaking rhythm game and some ancient spirit told us we need to form Captain Planet to stop the final boss. My head hurts, I think I need to go lie down.
Friday
Tales of Vesperia
I REALLY want to finish this game this week. I think I’m only about 4-5 hours away, that is assuming that I just go straight through the main story instead of suddenly deciding to do side missions. WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING?! So I eventually progressed the story into the next dungeon, and when I hit up the next boss fight, I didn’t just lose, I got UTTERLY FUCKING DESTROYED. I took down *maybe* 1/3rd of it’s health. I’m not even sure how to progress from here
Saturday
My absolute humiliation by the boss yesterday made me wary of Tales, so…..
Crash Course 2
I guess I’m starting to come around on it despite the possible sketchiness of the F2P model, and holding a supposed “free” game behind the gold account pay-wall. Also at some point during the week, for some reason I got sucked into
Candy Crush Saga
To my GREAT surprise, it’s actually kinda fun. I just assumed it was dogshit because all the other “smash hit” cellphone games I played were dogshit, like Angry Birds or Fruit Ninja. I mean, yeah, it’s just Bejeweled, or Sweet Tooth if you will since it’s candy based, but guess what? Bejeweled is still pretty fun. I played up to either the 3rd or 4th “episode”, to the point where it said “Hey give us money now! Ooooor you can go bug people on Facebook to advance instead,” Nah screw that shit. I’m done with it.
Sunday
Didn’t play anything, too busy with Mother’s day stuff.
Monday
Binary Domain
I was shocked when early in the chapter there was a 15+ minute span where I didn’t shoot a single bullet. I mean….what? These Terminators aren’t going to kill themselves here people! (…except the one that actually did in a cutscene) Played through to the end of chapter 2(out of 6 or 7, it looks like) this time, still a blast, although it’s not exactly introducing any new concepts. There’s a lot more story than I was expecting with this type of game, but it’s all batshit crazy which means it’s great. So far I like all the characters, except Charlie who is a fucking dickhead and therefore never gets brought on missions, except when I feel the need to “accidentally” shoot him in the back of the head. After that I still felt like playing something else, but didn’t really want to PLAY something else so..
UNO
I dunno what to say. It’s freakin UNO, what kind of detail do you want? Oh shit son, they thought I was gonna play that 3 but I totally changed it to a green! THAT’S A NEXT LEVEL MOVE! Back when they first released it for XBLA, I was a top 10 player in the world. True story. Of course that’s back when the 360 didn’t have shit for games still and it was basically my $400 UNO machine. For some reason when I loaded the game up there was an update, even though it’s only been like 2 or 3 months since I last played it. They’re really still updating this game? Wow. For what reason exactly? Played 3 ranked matches, went 2-1. Was planning on playing more than that, but game 3 was poisoned by some asshole who WOULDN’T FUCKING PLAY! PRESS A – FORCE PLAY, PRESS A – FORCE PLAY, PRESS A – FORCE PLAY over and over and over again! Gah how did he not get auto-booted from the game?! After dealing with that jackass I didn’t feel like playing any more UNO, and decided if I was raging from a stupid ass card-game it was time to shut down the 360 for the night.
QUESTION OF THE WEEK
With this generation drawing to a close, lots of places are sure to be doing a look back with best of lists and the sort. However I think it’d be more entertaining to go in the other direction. What is the worst, not most disappointing but flat out worst, game that you have personally played through to completion in this generation? For me the choice is easily Jumper: Griffin’s Story. Very rarely do I actually vocalize my anger at a video game, but this broken pile of garbage had me hoarse from screaming at my TV so much. However my answer could change by the end of this generation because I have Sonic the Hedgehog (06) just sitting here, daring me to play it, but I don’t know if I’m brave enough to actually do it. Anyway, leave your choice for the worst game of this generation that YOU personally played to completion in the comments below, and I’ll be back next week where maybe I’ll man up and try that boss in Vesperia again, along with some more Binary Domain and…who knows what else?
