Week ending 12/24/13
Hey guys, this week’s GADD is going to be a bit longer, simply because now the GADD week will end on Tuesdays instead of Mondays. Hopefully there’s no writeups this week of Wii garbage.
Tuesday
Bit.Trip Runner 2
Yep, let’s just pick up where we left off last week. Long time GADD readers will know just how crazy it is for me to play one game this much in such a short period. I dunno what it is, but the game just sinks it’s teeth into me and won’t let go. I finished up through world 3 and hope to finish the game tomorrow. I don’t know for sure, but this might be the first game I’ve ever actually beaten in a GADD article. Also I just unlocked a character named Whetfahrt so….yeah.
Wednesday
Bit.Trip Runner 2
Seriously this is still going, I haven’t abandoned it yet. I can’t think of a bigger recommendation than that. I played through the entire fourth world today and…..it turns out there’s a world five. Whoops. Maybe I’ll beat it tomorrow? I’m sure you guys are sick of reading about this game anyway.
Thursday
Bit.Trip Runner 2
I’m starting to think people won’t believe that GADD is a serious condition if I keep just playing this one game. How is it that world 5 is supposed to be a quasi-8 bit style world, but yet all the models for the obstacles are actually more detailed than anywhere else in the game? Something doesn’t quite add up here. I only got a few levels in today, so…shit. I’m beating this tomorrow. Flat out no excuses. It’s going down.
Friday
Bit.Trip Runner 2
THE GAME HAS BEEN BEATEN! Not only did I beat Runner 2, but I beat it getting perfects on every level while never using a single checkpoint. So what did I learn while beating the game today? Trampolines are evil fucking death traps. If you see a trampoline in your neighborhood, kill it before it can kill you. Holy shit the trampolines were the biggest cause for frustration in the last few levels. Also I’m not going to spoil it, but the final boss stage throws in a huge wrinkle that wouldn’t sound huge even if I did spoil it, but when seen in action it really messes with your mind. I said it last week and I’ll say it again here, if you enjoy difficult platformers (but not ridiculously difficult on the levels of a Super Meat Boy) GET THIS DAMN GAME.
Beyond: Two Souls
I only played for about an hour or so today but I feel as if this is the best part of the game so far, and not just because I got to do the KILL YOURSELF? prompt again. But mainly because I got to kill myself again. Let’s face it, killing yourself is ALWAYS fun kids! Feel tree to try it at home! The story is actually starting to get it’s claws into me a little bit. It’s a convoluted fucking mess, but Ellen Page is knocking it out of the park and making me care a little bit.
Saturday
Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign
I played through literally one fight in this, looked at what the possible options were for the next fight and saw I would need to grind to be ready for any of them, and decided that wasn’t fun. Who knows when I’ll go back to this now? I’ve soured on it very quickly. Other than that I didn’t do any gaming today due to a friends birthday.
Sunday
Beyond: Two Souls
Holy shit I played SO MUCH(by my standards) of this today. Damnit David Cage, I don’t know how you managed to reel me in. Scene-girl Ellen Page almost getting raped by dive bar rednecks was a pretty fuckin tense scene. The Navajo chapter, however, was so freaking ridiculous and long as hell that I needed to stop after that for sure. I kept begging for it to end but no it just kept going and going and going like a goddamn Energizer bunny. Also I think I reached the famous shower scene today. Does anyone know if Ellen Page actually ever sued over this or if it was just legal threats? Either way I think I’m going to continue playing this tomorrow. My return to GADD is so boring. I keep playing the same game multiple days in a row like a normal person. What the hell is wrong with me?
Monday
Beyond: Two Souls
Not as much today as yesterday, due to the Christmas family rush finally kicking in. Also I was wrong yesterday, today is the day I got to the famous shower scene, yesterday’s shower scene was a different one. Yes that’s right folks. TWO shower scenes in this game. I’m not sure why only the one had the camera messed around with. I feel like the game is starting to wrap up because one of the two big mysteries (why is Ellen Page on the run?) got solved in today’s play-through. If I have enough time tomorrow I could probably plow my way through this game, but I’ll likely have very little game time tomorrow with family in town, and then Christmas, and then I’ll probably have a whole bunch of new games to play and OH GOD. I’m going to get 90% through this game and never see the ending! Fuckin bank on it.
Tuesday
I literally played less than 20 minutes of Beyond today before I had to go into Christmas family entertaining mode. We played a few board games but those just quickly devolved into loud shouting matches. Ah family….
I can’t believe I’ve been home over two weeks and still haven’t even plugged my 360 in yet. I have SO MUCH to play on there but yet haven’t even gotten to it yet. Next week maybe I’ll finish Beyond, or maybe I’ll get so sidetracked by new Christmas games that I’ll just completely forget about it until months down the road. Who knows? Guess you’ll have to come back next week to find out.
QUESTION OF THE WEEK:
By the time you read this it’ll likely be after Christmas. With that said, what is your favorite gift received or given this year, and what is your best Christmas experience from this year? (or you know, whatever holiday you celebrate)
