Living In Reality: 2/27/14

Baby Drama

It’s a big week on The Real World, with no bigger storyline than the Lauren pregnancy. When we last left off, she was telling Cory about her positive test. Lauren was upset, and told a producer that she wanted to go home. She told Cory she was seeing a guy back home but used a condom with him. Cory knew he had unprotected sex with Lauren, so he was initially in panic mode. But after some thought and talking to the guys, he realized that a positive pregnancy reading wouldn’t show up so soon after having sex.

Lauren eventually admitted that she didn’t use a condom with the other guy but only used the day after pill. Cory was angry about her lie and berated her hard. When everyone went to the club later on, Cory blew off Lauren and flirted with another girl. Lauren became heated and gave him his own tongue-lashing. They continued arguing back at the house.

There’s a lot of layers to this Lauren/Cory saga. First off, they were each other’s first loves. Second, Cory cheated on Lauren. Finally, when Cory was in college, he got another girl pregnant. He wanted to be in the child’s life, so he left the football team and the school. Unfortunately, the girl faked the pregnancy. It was Lauren who was there to help Cory through that tough period of his life. All that history factored into the emotions involved in their present-day situation. Cory finally calmed down though and took Lauren out to dinner to try and hash things out. They were able to come to better terms with each other before Lauren went home for good.

Awkward Doug is back!

Remember the guy who was chilling in the hot tub with Jenny wearing nothing but his briefs awhile back? Well, he came back, and he came armed with a beautiful bouquet of flowers for Jenny!. Once again, the interaction between the two was…awkward. It was even more so with Brian now in the house. Fortunately, Jenny was able to let Doug down easy and get him out of the house before Brian saw him. Jenny told Brian the deal anyways, but he was OK with it.

So Jenny and Brian’s relationship was becoming smoother. Jenny was frustrated that Brian wasn’t giving her any loving though. Perhaps going out to a nice dinner for their fifth anniversary would set the wheels in motion. As it turned out, a brownie-making session (which was a pastime of theirs) at home was the catalyst for Brian finally giving in to temptation. He did wonder if having sex was a smart move, however.

Everyone’s Different

Arielle and Ashley easily had the most stable relationship in the house, but they hit a roadblock in this episode. Ashley wished that Arielle would dress more “girly” while Arielle just wanted to be herself. It turned into a big point of contention later on at the club when Ashley got irritated with Arielle for dressing more masculine. They made up fairly quick though.

Later on, Arielle brought her gay and transgendered friends to the house to hang out. The guys were freaking out because they had little to no experience with that crowd and didn’t want to offend anyone. Everything went well though. Brian of all people brought some words of wisdom to the table in regards to people of different sexualities being accepted.

Arielle even became emotional because her friends supported her over the clothing issue, helping her feel more comfortable in her own skin. Really, in this episode as a whole, it seemed like the connection between the original roommates and the exes became more solidified.

Club Trouble

Arielle also took the girls out to a lesbian club. Meanwhile, the guys did their own thing and had their fun out on the town. Maybe a bit too much fun though, as the guys partook in their fair share of flirting. They decided to leave before things got too hot and heavy. But, one of them got a little extra in, as Brian made out with another girl he had been chatting up. Afterwards, he was worried that Jenny might find out and “beat his ass”.

Aftershow

The Real World Aftershow broke out in a Battle of the Sexes session as the guys and girls sat across from each other. They immediately addressed the Brian kiss at the club. Jenny was pissed seeing that clip for the first time. She was also mad about Brian setting rules for Jenny but failing to adhere to those same rules.

Brian rationalized that he was trying to get Jenny back for making him look like a fool earlier when she had sex with Cory. He admitted being wrong for doing it though. The other guys said they wouldn’t rat out Brian per guy code rules (ironic considering the aftershow host Nessa is a “Girl Code” personality).

There was also never before seen footage shown of Jay, Thomas, and Cory acting like horny dogs at the club that same night. Needless to say, their respective partners were not amused.

Later on, the Lauren/Cory situation became the topic of conversation. Lauren expounded on her feelings at the time, saying she was terrified to tell Cory. She also had a hard time dealing with the cameras at the time. Lauren declined to comment on how she dealt with her pregnancy once she returned home.

Cory said he had many things going through his head at first. All his thoughts turned to anger when he found out the truth. He went into more detail on the fake pregnancy girl, saying she had faked texts, doctors notes, and even ultrasounds to keep up appearances.

The Ashley/Arielle spat was talked about afterwards, with Ashley revealing she used to be a tomboy herself. They talked about their relationship roles and also their difficulty in getting intimate with cameras rolling. There were also embarrassing clips of Arielle’s manic dancing around the house shown.

Finally, special guest Doug showed up with more flowers! The result was the same however, with Doug having to take an exit, stage left. We were left with a clip of the Jenny/Brian blowup from next week’s episode.
