Week 4 Featured Games
Thursday
#3 Clemson at N.C. State
Spread: Clemson -13.5
Announcers: Rece Davis, Jesse Palmer, David Pollack
All-Time Series: Clemson leads 50-28
Last Meeting: 11/17/12 Clemson 62, N.C. State 48
Reason to Watch: This has the smell of a game where Clemson does a face plant, conference road game at night against a mediocre team. On the other hand this is probably too early in the season for a Clemson fail so I think they’ll prevail. But if there is an upset be on the lookout for a fat guy on a pole in Raleigh.
Friday
Boise State at Fresno State
Spread: Fresno State -3
Announcers: Carter Blackburn, Danny Kanell
All-Time Series: Boise State leads 11-2
Last Meeting: 10/13/12 Boise State 20, Fresno State 10
Reason to Watch: This is a very rare conference game for Boise where they go in as the underdog. Fresno was a popular preseason “BCS Buster” and if they win this one their toughest remaining opponent in the regular season is San Jose State to close out the year. But this will likely be the first of two meetings between Boise and Fresno regardless of the result with a rematch coming in the all new Mountain West title game in December.
Early Saturday
North Carolina at Georgia Tech, Noon/9:00 AM, ESPN
Spread: Georgia Tech -6.5
Announcers: Dave Pasch, Brian Griese
All-Time Series: Georgia Tech leads 27-18-3
Last Meeting: 11/10/12 Georgia Tech 68, North Carolina 50
Reason to Watch: While I doubt they’ll match last year’s ridiculous 118 point output this should be at least a mildly entertaining game. Tech has owned UNC in recent years winning 13 of the last 15 meetings. They are actually throwing the football occasionally this year which if you tune in you may think that throwing the football makes Paul Johnson surly and uncomfortable but he always looks that way.
Back Up Game: San Jose State at Minnesota, Noon/9:00 AM, ESPN2
Mid-day Saturday
Tennessee at #19 Florida, 3:30/12:30 PM, CBS
Spread: Florida -17
Announcers: Verne Lundquist, Gary Danielson
All-Time Series: Florida leads 23-19
Last Meeting: 9/15/12 Florida 37, Tennessee 20
Reason to Watch: Once the go to early season game in the SEC, this rivalry is now becoming a bit of an afterthought save for this week’s piss poor slate of games it ends up being one of the better match ups. Even though Florida has completely dominated this series in recent years, Tennessee hasn’t won since 2004, that line seems way high for a team with Jeff Driskel at quarterback.
Back Up Game: Michigan State at #22 Notre Dame, 3:30/12:30 PM, NBC
Primetime Saturday
#23 Arizona State at #5 Stanford, 7:00/4:00 PM, FOX ***GAME OF THE WEEK***
Spread: Stanford -7
Announcers: GUS JOHNSON, Charles Davis
All-Time Series: Arizona State leads 16-11
Last Meeting: 11/13/10 Stanford 17, Arizona State 13
Reason to Watch: In the off chance that anyone not associated with TRTSM is reading this, I should give full disclosure that I am a Stanford fan. It should not come as a surprise from my writing ability that I did not go to Stanford. This makes me a very odd person as even Stanford alumni don’t care that much about Stanford football even with the program’s surprising ascension to national powerhouse. You the reader should root for Stanford in this game though as Todd Graham is a real scumbag even by college football coaching standards.
Back Up Game: Auburn at #6 LSU, 7:45/4:45 PM, ESPN
Late Night Saturday
Utah at BYU, 10:15/7:15 PM, ESPN2
Spread: BYU -7
Announcers: Mark Jones, Brock Huard
All-Time Series: Utah leads 53-31-4
Last Meeting: 9/15/12 Utah 24, BYU 21
Reason to Watch: Slap on your best magical underwear and bring all your wives because it’s the Holy War! Oh Mormon jokes, do they ever get old? I actually grew up in a town with a fairly large Mormon population and they are very nice people and their women are typically large breasted. As for the game, it should be a good one.
Back Up Game: Wyoming at Air Force, 10:15/7:15 PM, ESPNU
