I've mentioned this before, but the main thing I hate about these movies is the fact that we are supposed to root for and/or sympathize with characters that are nothing but unlikable. Everything I read and heard about "Jack and Jill" dealt with how Jill is a completely reprehensible human being-rude, racist, loud, etc.-yet we the audience are supposed to feel bad for her because nobody wants to be around such a hideous example of humanity. Everything about that reeks of cynicism from a man (Sandler) who feels nothing but contempt for his audience.

He's sort of on to something. I never saw Jack and Jill, but Grown Ups was full of duplicitous people and their various lies. No one made me feel bad for them because they never hid their flaws or simply didn't tell everyone. No, there'd be a bald-faced lie attached to it. If you can't be honest at ALL with your friends and thus the audience in some cases then I can't feel sorry for you.

Listening to Chris Rock, David Spade, and Colin Quinn on Stern doing promotion for the original Grown Ups in 2010 made it sound like they were just friends having fun, getting varying amounts of money to goof around and generally not give a care about the quality or lack there of of the product being made. Which is great for them, so whatever.

I almost went out to be an extra in Grown Ups 2 since they're filming about an hour and a half so that just means one less detestable fat face on screen for TSMers to hate watch.

Sandler might of liken you to a young Louie Anderson and put you in more films and buy you some gifts. You missed out, bro.

I was too broke to get out to Dorchester. Maybe I should have started a Kickstarter fund to buy myself a bus ticket.

I could have been the next Kevin Farley, man. :(

Sandler is doing a movie with will Ferrell where they play rival football coaches. "3 Mississippi". He replaced mark wahlberg. Maybe he dumped "candy land" for it.

You just described my feelings about almost every protagonist Sandler ever plays. I've never understood why I'm supposed to be on this schmuck's side. I can take him when he's playing a more regular guy, but not when he's doing his patented "retarded rage-filled manchild with a silly voice which the movie expects me to find charming" act.

Call me a mark but I'm looking forward to that footbaw movie.
Me too even though I haven't enjoyed a Sandler comedy in a solid decade. I find even a lot of the lesser Ferrell comedies mildly enjoyable. And even the worst of them don't fill me with inexplicable, apoplectic rage like I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry or Don't Mess With The Zohan.

It worked in movies like "Happy Gilmore" and especially "Billy Madison" because they weren't shoving schmaltz down your throat. In "Madison", they make no apology for the fact that this is an unlikable, selfish and stupid guy whose never going to change. Shit, he might as well be retarded. Yet, it worked in the absurd universe of the film. Since then, they've become increasingly manipulative ("Click") and insulting in how they have no concern for the audience.

Fuck I actually enjoyed Click since it isn't the typical Sandler movie. I enjoy it even with how much it tries to manipulate the audience. A decent concept that could have been so much more, but I was pleased by it.

All of sandler's movies should have followed the billy Madison formula but he got caught up in trying to be cutesy and warm hearted. It's such an awesome funny movie. Big daddy sort of had that vibe until the diabetes inducing 3rd act

Click, Spanglish, Funny People, Just Go with it...all enjoyable flicks.

The only thing I enjoyed abot Grownups was Salma Hayeks cleavage, which I could watch all day.

I tried watching that review linked earlier in the thread...and those two guys are fucking tools. Their arguments against Jack and Jill were plentiful and made sense and I agreed with them, but the bigger one is such a pompous dick that I can't take him seriously.

That was def the highlight, though Schneider's two hot daughters were a nice addition as well, especially Jamie Chung...

His "comedy" CDs completely hit a wall too. His last one was horrible.

I only liked his first one. I remember listening to Stan and Judy's kid and not laughing once. By 17 I had outgrown Adam Sandler.

I'm watching Funny People. When do I stop? When he's no longer sick?

The only track I like on Stan and Judy's Kid is the Robert Smigel "I Married a Whore" song. The rest is crap. "Whitey" never ends. And to think Sandler based Eight Crazy Nights around that character.

I actually liked the first 2 acts of Funny People. The third act with the Apatow family falls off a cliff. I don' t think Sandler was the main problem with the movie. He was fine

Sandler does pretty good work outside of Happy Madison. Spanglish, Airheads, SNL... Haven't seen Punch-Drunk Love, but it's highly rated. I think if someone can convince him to give a damn, he'll do so. Otherwise, he's happy making millions to fart around and film a makeout scene with Kate Beckinsale.
