I'm watching Funny People. When do I stop? When he's no longer sick?

Opening credits.

Not true. It loses it's way by the time Eric Bana shows up. Hey Teach and Jonah Hill are pretty funny for the first half.

Its weird, because Bana is probably the best character in the movie, but the movie is better before it gets to him.

I was being sarcastic with that one. I agree with treble that he's the best character, but the movie gets so bad by the time he shows up. That third act is some really hard stuff to sit through.

This is true... I'm having a tough time thinking of another movie that's like that. Bana is so good in it but by the time his character is brought into the picture the film is off track and a pain to get through.

There's a really good movie somewhere in there. Chop an hour or so off of there and have Sandler actually die.

Yeah, that's mainly my complaint with all Apatow movies. They have so much stuff in them that brings the movie down. So much stuff should've been left on the cutting room floor when it comes to Funny People. Also, Sandler needed to die in it.

Sandler does pretty good work outside of Happy Madison. Spanglish, Airheads, SNL... Haven't seen Punch-Drunk Love, but it's highly rated. I think if someone can convince him to give a damn, he'll do so. Otherwise, he's happy making millions to fart around and film a makeout scene with Kate Beckinsale.
While the Beckinsale make out scene would be high on the "That lucky bastard" list I think it'd go a bit below getting to squeeze Jessica Biels tits...

I feel like I should give Funny People another chance. Like everybody else I dug the first half a lot and then completely lost interest by the time it hit the 2 hr mark. I didn't even finish it, just shut it off and went to bed and had no interest in watching the rest of it. It seems like it might get better on repeat viewings.

New ad has no quotes from critics, but it does have twitter users calling That's My Boy A COMEDY CLASSIC

I think that's the new thing. If no critics like it, just put a twitter quote from some fool that saw a screening and loved it. Project X did the same thing.

Punch-Drunk Love works because it's taking the classic abusive man-child Sandler archetype and putting him in a film where people don't find his destructive nature cute and funny. They're horrified and call him on it.

That's My Boy still has 0 reviews on RT, which means they aren't screening it for Critics. Which is probably usual with Adam Sandler films, but it usually means the studio knows it sucks.

67 reviews, 24%. Also, I think Vanilla Ice is in the movie. Before Prometheus last week the Regal First Look had some shit on That's My Boy, and then all of a sudden they show Vanilla Ice talking about how great the movie is. Vanilla Ice out of fucking no where.

I had heard soemthing where someone said Vanilla Ice and Dan Patrick are the highlights of the movie. I think that should be the line they put on all advertising.

Is Erin Andrews in this or something? She keeps posting pics from the set on facebook.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I read that she appears in it. I just found out Rex Ryan is in it too. Fuck this movie.

Well, the past week on the commercial, they've been showing a V-Ice scene.

I'm sure Vanilla Ice is happy he's getting paid a lot, and that it didn't revolve around the Insane Clown Posse for a change.

Since there wasnt much else coming out this weekend, I grinned and beared That's My Boy earlier. Not absolutely awful in some parts but there is plenty of fucked up cringe-worthy shit in it that takes the cake of fucked up shit for Sandler movies. Such as:

Sandler jerking off to a grandma, and then ends up fucking her later on, with Vanilla Ice (who is the best part of the whole movie) getting the sloppy seconds.
Leighton Meester (who in the movie is going to marry the Andy Samburg character) ends up being revealed to be fucking her brother her entire life, with "one last time" before she gets married to Samburg
A completely unfunny and awkward scene where Sandler (dad) and Samburg (son) are having a "tickle fight" which leads to Sandler sitting on his shoulders and sticking his hardon through his pants right in his face

If you would take out the completely over the top bullshit, this wasnt a horrible Sandler movie, but a bearable one at times. 80 percent of the comedy isnt worthy of a laugh or even chuckle though. Lots of decent cameos and short roles for people I wouldnt expect to work in even a Sandler movie, like Dan Patrick, Erin Andrews, Todd Bridges, etc.

Yeah I've heard that's my boy is bad but not as bad as you would expect. That's practically an outright endorsement for a sandler film now

Yeah. (Although that's counterbalanced by having him surrounded with a bunch of hideous people who are much more horrifying than he is.) That's the only movie I've seen which actually explores the idea of what a manchild like this might really be like, what his inner feelings are, etcetera. And it even manages to exonerate him in the end, kinda. The scenes where he takes angry revenge on his tormentors are fuckin' awesome. Kinda like Eli Roth's parts as the Bear Jew in Basterds, this movie got me to cheer a guy I hate via pure artistic quality.

America's most beloved comedian, ladies and gentlemen. No wonder the rest of the world hates us so.

This reminds me of another reason (Jesus Christ, I really do hate Adam Sandler) why I hate this guys movies: They are hateful. If you are old, fat, gay, a minority, a woman or even someone who wouldn't find his boarish antics amusing, then guess what? You are the brunt of a series of mean spirited jokes.

Did you hate all the jews in that movie, or just the Bear Jew?

Just Eli Roth. Horrible director of shitty movies, who is so smug and arrogant about everything that you can literally see it on his face. I really hate that asshole. But Tarantino's a good enough artist that he somehow carried Roth to a role that made me wanna cheer that douchebag.
