It's a new year so a new thread? How are you feeling about AEW? What do you want to see from in in 2025? What did you like/dislike about it in 2024?

This is awesome. I put on the first Double or Nothing. Broadcast team is JR, Excalibur and Alex Marvez. Meanwhile, I spotted Tony Schiavone (not identified) in the crowd.

I was going to do the free trial of Max to try out the simulcast but I guess they don't do a free trial anymore. I'm assuming they're still doing ads on the simulcast but figured I'd give a shot with a trial. Might as well stick with TBS unless I hear the simulcast is actually ad free.

Good to know, I can save the 17 bucks a month until I actually need access to the archive.

By the way, these streaming services need to figure that shit out, at least for something like that where shit is happening during the breaks. Not just wrestling, but NASCAR and shit too. I pay extra for ad free for a reason.

Watching Bret Hart unveil the AEW world championship belt and share the ring with Hangman and MJF feels like a fever dream.

They announced the return of Casino Gauntlet Match next week (it’s been a whole 4 months, kudos to TK for his remarkable restraint) with the winner challenging Moxley at Maximum Carnage on 1/15.

Like Briscoe is just intensely likable and the story is a great one. Match would be super fun as well and could cement Briscoe.

The maximum carnage show is in Moxleys hometown and probably the only place left that doesn’t loathe his boring routine so Briscoe is probably your best bet.

Or maybe TK is gonna debut and hotshot someone.

Best shot in the arm is pull the trigger on someone over in the mid card and see what happens. What's the worst that can happen? Different is good right now.

They clearly have something the fans want to see in Moxley vs Cope but I don't know how long they can keep it fresh if they want to keep it going until the next ppv.

Booking ppv-level shows almost weekly bites them a lot that way.

Thought tonight’s show was solid, if unspectacular. I watched on Max and was a little disappointed by the experience. Apparently, the show was broadcast in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, but you only got it if you subscribe to the highest tier on Max (everything else in their sports package gets the Dolby bells and whistles in every tier). Also, not only do you get commercials (a lot of people were hoping it would be commercial-free like the international stream), but watching on Max, you don’t even get picture-in-picture. So, in that way, it was actually worse than watching on cable.

The main event was hot and the triple threat was good. That's about it. Oh, I also liked heel Riccochet taking out Swerve, showing that he has something other than flips.

Doing a Terry Funk/Jerry Lynn inspired angle with Jeff Jarrett is certainly a choice for the alternative brand to decide to push into the year 2025 but given the path of other angles recently involving the world title, this is somehow a positive direction. Kind of.

Also, the Vinceifiction of changing his name to Cope is so preposterously delightful and the absurd seriousness in which they’ll present it will make for great television and really all you can ask for is that with AEW.

Two things I forgot to mention last night:

1. Ricochet looks like a serial killer in those glasses. This heel turn is off to a fantastic start.

2. If AEW is hellbent on bringing back the LED board barricade across from the hard cam, would it be asking too much to make it a color that isn’t blindingly bright orange when matches are going on? It really distracts from the action in the ring.

If nothing else the video quality was much much better on Max. I think we are on the highest plan though. Way less compressed than the normal feed I would get on TBS/TNT through youtube tv. Having ads sucks, as well as no PIP, but it is what it is. We have MAX regardless so I will watch it on there just for the bump in video quality.
