So Mercedes dropped the belt to Willow on New Year's Dynamite. Kenny is looking to challenge MJF for the Men's title, Bandido challenges in 2 weeks as well.

The company in general feels like it's doing really well right now. Not only are people putting in great work but they have some really good angles and fresh matchups with people turning or about to turn.

Isn't involving tag wrestlers in singles feuds a big part of why Mercedes left WWE in the first place?

It was such a different situation you can't even compare them. Mercedes is the entire main focus of the Women's division and has been since she came in. She's the biggest Women's star outside of WWE and arguably in the World considering you can actually prove she draws entirely on her own.

You think that Mercedes becoming a bigger star has made her change her mind about tag champs being involved in singles feuds?

Yeah this is a situation that benefits Mercedes, the other didn't. There hasn't been a single whisper of her being unhappy in her entire run.

I hope it wasn't a 1 off thing during the backstage interview, because I'm interested to see where Toni Storm / Mina / Citrus Boy goes.

Relatedly, we're on 2+ years of the Timeless character, it's such a treat to have a company that let her run with it & trusted her with it, whereas some other company would have given her 6 months (if that!) before making her a comedy jobber and then releasing her.

It also speaks to how good Toni is. In the wrong hands, the “Timeless” character could have gotten very old very fast.

Toni Storm seems to be the only talent they handle properly more often than not. I'm not necessarily captivated by her bell to bell (but that can be said about 95% of AEW/WWE talents), but I actually give a shit about what she does, which is more than I can say for just about anyone else in the company.

AEW in big trouble now with the departures of Mercedes Martinez, Matt Taven and Alex Abrahantes.

They brought in the wrong Deaner! Used to catch Cody Deaner and Big Rig Brodie Lee mixing it up with Delaneys in the Western NY indies

Amazed this hasn't been talked about more before now, but SRS is reporting that Powerhouse Hobbs' contract ends tonight. WWE could easily do something with him.

I haven't watched Dynamite yet (god damn my sleep patterns) but sounds like another good show.

As far as Hobbs leaving for WWE which Meltzer says is happening barring a big change, it's too bad as a fan of his since it means I won't be watching him anymore but I can see why he'd do it. WWE will always love the big thick power guys (and rightly so) and he seems to have hit his level in AEW. If he thinks he can do better he's going to bet on himself.

I really enjoyed Hobbs but it felt like every time he started to get momentum something went wrong for him, usually an injury.

If he’s on his way out, I’m surprised they didn’t move the trios titles to another team. You can always just plug in Hook (who Hobbs had replaced in the team anyway), but it would be kinda awkward to have a title holder leave with no explanation.

FWIW, Hobbs is still listed on the active roster page on AEW’s website. They’re pretty good about keeping that current.

Opps drop the trios titles to Hangman and Jetspeed on Collision

I don't blame Hobbs are seeing if he can make it in WWE. If he thrives, great. If it doesn't work out then I'm sure Tony will welcome him back with open arms.

I’m gonna sound like a wimp, but…for Christ sake Darby, it’s a weekly tv show. You don’t have to do these kinds of bumps (the belly to belly on the stairs)

He's got one big thing working against him
yeah he’s a smaller guy than a lot of the new players in the hoss division over there but i think he still has a lot of personality to work with that shortcoming.

They've acquired a lot of talent over the last month or so. I would suggest maybe they're finally getting serious about ROH but stuff like that gets talked about annually before being forgotten about but there not enough airtime for all these workers unless more is coming.

Trey Miguel has been released from his contract with AEW just days after signing with them after he declared earlier in the day he would be taking a break from wrestling.
