More I hear about this, the worse it sounds.
Has AEW actually said anywhere that the backstage footage they are airing is going to be from the Punk-Jack Perry altercation? Because I know TK said in this article that it’s not a bait and switch, but he also seemed to be choosing his words pretty carefully in those quotes.

Tony said they are releasing footage now for storyline-driven reasons. The Bucks and FTR are wrestling at the next PPV, and their last match was All In. There’s a real possibility that whatever they end up showing tomorrow has nothing to do with Punk.

Wouldn't that just be great. Make your fans believe one thing (even if they didn't outright say it) but show something else entirely. And then after act like they were stupid for believing they would see Punk.

That would be some first class PR.

Why not tell the fans they smell and won't ever have sex while you're at it?

the way people are getting worked up over something that hasn't even aired yet is really funny to me tbh.
I mean, maybe?

Like, on one hand, the OBVIOUS leap people are going to make, especially after the Punk interview is you're going to show the Punk/Perry scuffle and prove that Punk is an unhinged psycho that was a legit threat to people and he's a sad, pathetic old man that swallowed WWE's Saudi blood covered cock just to "finish his story" on his terms.

NOW you're hemming-hawing over the fact that it is "backstage footage" and will be used as a way to build into the angle between the Young Bucks and FTR. It won't be the Punk/Perry fight and is exactly what TK said "backstage footage" and he's going to make people feel stupid for ever thinking he'd air the former.

This is just going to blow up in his face and after WWE turned their fans into the aftermath of the villain of Orgasmo with the last 5mins of the Cody/Roman match, AEW is going to look even more bush league.

You do know that the young bucks said "backstage footage" in the original announcement right?

I don't think doing this now is the greatest idea either but I'm going to wait and see it before condemning it. If someone had told me about DX driving a tank to Nitro or other MNW I'd have probably thought those were stupid too. You have to see something happen to know if it works.

Vince sounded like a jilted lover towards Bret for 10 years but it never cost them money. So like, I don't really care

If it shows Punk being the aggressor and failing/getting his ass handed to him, can he recover and be fine on WWE TV? Yes.

Still, I think Tony has already gotten one thing he wanted from this and that is the publicity and lots of eyes on the show tomorrow. I imagine the rest of the show will have eye catching moments in attempt to capitalize on those eyes as I said previously. So fans win too.

I feel bad that Dustin Rhodes Vs Samoa Joey is on this Dynamite. Not that is not a match worth booking obviously but on the same show as the All In footage, it definitely seems like it is AEW trying to chase that post WrestleMania clout.

I think comparing this to the Fingerpoke of Doom is an exaggeration. I think a better comparison is that time TNA sent Abyss, Shane Douglas and others to a WWE taping with birthday cake and airing the footage blurring out the WWE superstars'' faces (one who was clearly an unmasked Rey Mysterio).

From the way Tony Khan described it, it’s like that RAW after Mania in the early 2010s where the crowd chanted “Turn Heel” at Cena and he turned the heel of his foot. Or alternately (for @Laz ), that TNA show in the ‘00s where the crowd chanted “Drop the belt” at Jeff Jarrett and he literally dropped his belt on the mat.

I know this angle could still be good but that scenario is hard to imagine with the way Tony Khan described it!

The people involved aren't creative enough to make it work out for the better.

And yeah it's more Abyss with party balloons than the fingerpoke at this point. But as always I'm more than happy to be wrong.

I'm still trying to figure out the "Orgasmo" referense.

I really doubt they’re going to do a bait and switch because that would be the sort of thing that people years later would mention in “when did you stop watching AEW” discussions. It’s not impossible but I think Tony really wants to show that footage to prove some sort of point. Is it a bad idea? Yes. Will I be watching more intently than usual tonight? Also yes.

The FTR promo after was very good. The footage itself showed Punk was the aggressor. They did a perfectly fine job with this whole thing.

I love Ospreay.

The footage thing was whatever. I get what they were trying to do and the FTR promo was good. With that said I still think it was silky to go about it that way.

Could have got the same point across without the footage.

To me the story here (in kayfabe) isn't that the footage matters. It's that The Bucks need an excuse for losing last time and a distraction now. The FTR promo after did a great job pointing this out. At the PPV I assume they'll have Jack Perry show up and help Bucks win which will lead eventually to a war games or stadium stampeede.
