She deserves zero sympathy. People can talk about fame and what it does but at the end of the day she was a grown woman who made her own decision and now she has to live...er....die with them.

Fact that this happpened after 93 people got murdered in Norway yesterday really reinforces this to me. She had everything and threw it away.

Feel bad for her long-suffering family, but that's about it.

I dunno guys, this situation is really tragic. The fact that her untimely death was viewed as an inevitability years before she actually croaked just makes it more affecting, not less.

Her hit album contained several references to her drug use and troubled life. I think Winehouse is fascinating as someone who really had her personal demons from the very beginning and had them laid bare more than any other artist I can remember.

She clearly did not give a fuck whether she lived or died or ended up in a coma, so why should anybody else?

It's like the outpouring of grief for Ryan Dunn. Dude was BEGGING to die in exactly the fashion he did. It's not tragic in any sense of the word.

Well, I wasn't just talking about her death when I referred to the situation as tragic. I mean the very nature of her public persona, more than anything. I suppose that as my first post in this thread demonstrates I'm not above making ironic anti-jokes about her demise, there's just something that rubs me the wrong way about people feeling the need to state that they don't feel sorry for her. Especially when they follow that up by feigning sympathy for her relatives, none of whom died with her.

As someone who has dealt with family members who have had drinking/drug issues (although, I admit, not as bad as she was) I am genuine in feeling badly for her parents and her brother. They're the victims in this. They were desperate to save this woman who 1) couldn't be saved and 2) didn't even want to be saved, seemingly. And it doesn't even sound like they were the pushy stage parent types (Dina Lohan) who you pin some of the blame on for their kid ending up the way they did.

It is like Ryan Dunn in that you have very little sympathy for him, just the ruined lives he left behind.
