I thought he captured Wayne the best up until Bale got the role... he just didn't have much to work with.

Ok, if you put it that way, you got a point.

I just remember Clooney's smile as he was telling Robin that Alfred was dying of McGregor's Syndrome. To me, Clooney never looked crazy enough to play Bruce Wayne. Michael Keaton had that mixture of a nice guy and a guy that could be a little deranged, it was perfect for a tycoon that moonlights as a bat. Bale has that mix as well, even Kilmer had it a little. Clooney just looked normal to me.

I actually read somewhere that there were ideas for later Batman stories to have Clint Eastwood as an older Bruce Wayne but they balked because he wanted to direct it as well. If true, that could've been more interesting than it seems at first thought. Imagine Eastwood in the bat costume saying "get off my lawn." lol.

Bale's Wayne is brilliant because he's basically doing Patrick Bateman.

I thought Keaton was fine, but he was always getting upstaged by the villains. Which may have been Burton's intention, I don't know. Kilmer was good, but he did seem out of place. Similarly, Clooney was miscast.

Kevin Conroy was probably the best, up till Bale, I think.

You know, for all the criticism Schumacher gets, he probably had a better grasp for the character than Burton did. At least, in Batman Forever. Burton seemed to be saying that Batman was just as crazy as the villians, this is especially true in Batman Returns where he doesn't do anything heroic at all. At least, Schumacher treated him like he was supposed to be heroic.

I always refer to him in my head as Tim "The Killing Joke is my favorite comic"/"I've never read a comic in my life" Burton. He's said both things. God. The farther we get from those movies the worse they get. I'm lucky I was a weird kindergartner because a lot of my contemporaries have told me that they couldn't handle Returns back in the day.

I tend to agree with Roger Ebert when he said Batman Returns was a good movie, but it just wasn't a good Batman movie.

For what their worth, both Batman '89 and Returns are at least visually stunning movies, especially for their time. I particularly like how Gotham City is portrayed in both movies. A lot of things about the films date them (the Prince music playing during the art museum heist in '89) and yea, Batman did come off as a wuss a lot of the time (especially having Joker constantly one up him in '89) but underneath the flaws, I still tend to enjoy both movies and will even agree with the "good movies but not good Batman movies" sentiment.

In reference to Batman Returns.

Wikipedia said:
Robin appeared in the script, but was deleted due to too many characters. Waters and Burton feel Robin is "the most worthless character in the world, especially with [Batman as] the loner of loners." Robin started out as a juvenile gang leader, who becomes an ally to Batman. Robin was later changed to a black teenager who's also a garage mechanic.[5] Waters explained, "He's wearing this old-fashioned garage mechanic uniform and it has an 'R' on it. He drives the Batmobile, which I notice they used in the third film!" Marlon Wayans was cast, and signed for a sequel. Wayans had attended a wardrobe fitting, but it was decided to save the character for a third installment.

Wayans was originally cast as Robin in the 1992 film Batman Returns, however it was felt that the film featured too many characters, so the character was omitted from that film. He was considered for the role in the 1995 sequel Batman Forever, but the change in directors from Tim Burton to Joel Schumacher would also mean a change in the choice of actor for the role of Robin. Despite not actually appearing in either film, he was reportedly still paid for the role. He was replaced by Chris O'Donnell.

There was even a Robin Wayans action figure in the Batman Returns toy line that was repainted and released as a caucasian Boy Wonder with a flat top.

I'm still not sure why Batman is being a dick about jaywalking, or why he has the ability to throw you in jail.

Maybe it's the Gotham City OF THE FUTURE, like in Kingdom Come. \

Batman is the law. You'll follow the Bat Laws and use your Bat-Cash, and any minor infraction lands you in Bat Jail.

Anytime I question why Batman is doing something, I just imagine him reliving the death of his parents and growling "NEVER AGAIN" and then he kicks the shit out of a jaywalker.

He's obviously supposed to be black. Also, it must've confused kids when Robin is no where to be found.

I guess this can go here since it's too far away for its own thread...

Warner Bros. Pictures has hired X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Proposal star Ryan Reynolds to play the title role in the anticipated Green Lantern, scheduled for a June 17, 2011 release.

Based on the DC Comics hero, the action-adventure will be directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, GoldenEye) and produced by Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti. Berlanti wrote the script with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green.

The Hollywood trades say that Reynolds and his camp entered negotiations for the part Friday, after the studio held two rounds of screen tests, along with actors Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto. Justin Timberlake also did a screen test. The studio had holding options on the actors, but, except for Reynolds, those expired Monday. Reynolds' option would have expired end of day Friday.

Production is expected to begin in January.

The "Green Lantern" was created in 1940 by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell. Introduced in 1959, Hal Jordan is a second-generation test pilot, an ordinary man who was given the power ring and battery (lantern) by a dying alien named Abin Sur. When Abin Sur's spaceship crashed on Earth, the alien used his ring to seek out an individual to take his place as Green Lantern: someone who was "utterly honest and born without fear."

Reynolds will be the only actor to have played heroes for both Marvel and DC. He recently starred in Fox's "Wolverine," in which he played Wade Wilson/Deadpool. The character is now being developed for a spin-off to which Reynolds is attached. He also played Hannibal King in Blade: Trinity.

The actor will next star in Buried, a dark indie drama that will begin filming shortly in Barcelona with Spanish director Rodrigo Cortes. Reynolds will play a civilian contractor who is kidnapped in Iraq and awakes in a coffin, struggling against time to coordinate a rescue even though he doesn't know where he's buried in the desert.

Discuss.

So...which Lantern will he be?

I'm assuming Hal Jordan, though he'd probably play a better Kyle. Depending on how seriously he takes the role, this isn't a horrible move. Certainly unexpected, though.

I'd go with Kyle to for Ryan, especially since Hal's got such baggage. Besides, Ryan's ass is nice, but not *as* nice as Hal's.

Batman & Robin. People just didnt get it. There were so many subtle messages, and deep meaning to the film. For instance Mr Freezze experienced tragedy with the illness of his wife and in resulted in him becoming a "cold" person emotionally and physically (such symbolism). Poison Ivy was meant to show a reverse on the way humans are polluting wildlife and killing plants. Since it was a plant lady exterminating humans. It really makes you take a step back and think. The bat nipples were meant to demonstrate the more human side of the dark knight since robin became his partner. It is an expression of how his relationship with his new partner has relieved him of the darkness in his life and brought him into the light. Mr Freeze creating a gun that freezes an entire city, a commentary how all people experience times when their hearts are frozen. And batman using a telescope to revert the sun back to Gotham to thaw all the people is a testament to how love (which is symbolized by the sun) can heal anybody who is cold hearted. The film even delved into our societys economic values. The bat credit card obviously symbolized capitalism. It is probably one of the most perfectly made films of our generation. I am in awe every time i see have the honor of getting the chance to view it. Thank you Joel Schumacher
