Black Monday NFL 2025

Steelers hiring Mike McCarthy
He's a good HC but I also feel like he's a pretty big underachiever too. Only won 1 Super Bowl with a prime/peak Aaron Rodgers and then struggled in the playoffs with Dallas.

For a Steelers franchise, this kind of feels like a backwards hire. Maybe he has better regular season records than Tomlin but this feels like he'll do the equivalent of his Green Bay run at best... lot of 11-13 win seasons but struggle in the playoffs and be .500 at best.

Steelers need a rebuild despite winning the division. Both O and D finished middle of the pack in the rankings. They scored 10 more points than they surrendered. They brought in the 2018 all pro team to drag out another year of relevance. Rodgers and Cam Heyward are both probable retirees. Their leading rusher is 27 and did not make 1000 yards.

He's not inheriting Favre/Rodgers or Dak this time.

I've been hearing this "Mike McCarthy QB school" shit for 15 years with no real results unless you are crediting him with Rodgers.

QBs drafted: Ingle Martin, Matt Flynn, Brian Brohm, BJ Coleman
Dallas - Ben DiNucci

And his last Super Bowl was the same year as Tomlin's.

"He's been developing QBs since 1993 with Joe Montana tho"

Grant Udinski, OC of the Jaguars informed the Browns he will not accept any offer to be their HC. A big issue for prospective hires is that in addition to the fact it’s Cleveland and all that entails but the methods of interviewing for the position are absurd and they aren’t being given the option of selecting their own defensive staff, the job comes with Jim Schwartz remaining as DC.

He has renewed a deal with Jacksonville to remain OC but is still in discussions for the Buffalo job.

update: it appears that he “pulled out” once he heard he wasn’t their first choice.

update: Browns are in LA today to meet in person with Rams Passing Game Coordinator Nathan Scheelhaase.

Not a surprise but Baltimore is hiring Mike Minter away from Notre Dame. Atlanta has also hired Craig Aukerman as their ST Coach while keeping several assistants from the old coaching staff.

Good catch. I had Minter on the brain there. 🤣

Tennessee will hire former NYG HC Brian Daboll for their OC position.

NY Jets fired OC Tanner Engstrand. No, they actually had an offensive coordinator this whole time.

Cleveland has selected former Ravens OC Todd Monken to be their newest head coach.

after the news regarding Todd Monken’s hiring, Jim Schwartz is reaching out to the team saying he will not be returning.

Cleveland doing Cleveland things.

Pittsburgh hired former Vegas DC Patrick Graham for the same position.

Shea Tierney is following Brian Daboll from the GIants to Titans as QB Coach.

Browns hired George Warhop as OL Coach.

Bobby Babich has joined the Packers as Defensive Pass Game Coordinator.

Jets hired Brian Duker as DC.

Why are people so down on the Bills hire? The guy was the definition of success in his role as OC, normally coaches like that are given a chance to succeed as the top dog. Obviously it doesn’t always transfer but that’s literally the pipeline.

It's what I'm telling myself to try and feel better about it but the vibe I get is that he's old regime that couldn't get it done. How much of his success is Allen being Allen and succeeding despite some of these play calls? Saw some stuff yesterday that even the run game he had plays and advice being fed to him by the retiring Aaron Kromer (but for all I know maybe this is common?) Guess we'll see but in the end offense was not the issue so hopefully they'll nail the DC hire.

Philadelphia has hired former Green Bay QB Coach, Sean Mannion to be their new offensive coordinator.

Chargers have hired Chris O'Leary from Western Michigan (he coaches Safeties for the Chargers in 2024 and coached at Notre Dame from 2021-2023).

Dolphins have hired Nathaniel Hackett as QB Coach.

Chicago OC Declan Doyle is leaving the Bears to take the same position with Baltimore.

Houston is hiring James Ferentz as TE Coach. Bills are hiring Pete Carmichael Jr as OC and Jeff Rogers as ST Coach. Steelers are hiring Jahri Evans as AOL Coach. Eagles are hiring Josh Grizzard as PGC.

Commanders have named Daronte Jones as DC.

Atlanta has hired Bears Assistant GM Ian Cummings as their new GM.

Vegas will be hiring Seattle OC Klint Kubiak for their HC position after the super bowl.

this leaves Arizona as the final head coach vacancy.

and then there were none.

Arizona has hired Rams OC Mike LeFleur to be their newest head coach.

Raheem Morris will be the new DC in San Francisco
