Soft spot for "Love Stinks" but I get it.

Their earlier stuff is better but that might be my NEW ENGLAND MAN bias.

Peter Wolf and David Lynch being roommates in Boston and Lynch moving out because Peter Wolf was too odd is one of my favorite classic rock anecdotes.

Idk why DLR is so embarrassed by the last Van Halen album considering all of the solo material he has released in the past 30 years.

At the time that album was released, Sammy Hagar gave an interview and claimed that most of the songs on A Different Kind of Truth were basically rejects from the Sammy Hagar era that had been laying around Eddie Van Halen’s home studio for years. Sammy was basically implying that Roth had little to do with writing those songs aside from tinkering with the lyrics a bit. Maybe that has something to do with it. Maybe he doesn’t feel that they are really his songs.

I've come to the conclusion that I don't care for J. Geils Band.
Fun Thread Killer Trivia Facts:

1) The very first time The Thread Killer ever went record shopping when he was a wee lad of 11 years old in the year 1981, he brought three items:

- The LP “Back in Black” by AC/DC
- The LP “Escape” by Journey
- The 45 Single “Centerfold” by The J. Geils Band

2) When she found it, The Thread Killer’s Mother broke the Centerfold 45 single into pieces and threw it in the trash because it was about pornography and naked ladies. The Thread Killer didn’t actually care, because after listening to that single a bunch of times, he had gotten really sick of it already.

(In retrospect, The Thread Killer is unsure of how a song about pornography equates to actual pornography, but this was the early 80s, the age of the moral majority, and at 11 years old The Thread Killer was in no position to make that argument. Maybe he will call Mama Thread Killer tomorrow and make the argument now, and demand financial compensation, including interest.)

42 years later, he unapologetically still loves Back in Black and “Don’t Stop Believin” and fuck you if you don’t.

3) Absolutely none of you were alive when any of this happened.

The bones of a lot of the songs were written when DLR was in the band in the ‘70s. Some even before the first album came out.

If nothing else, I think that album was kind of a tipping point and I feel like a lot of VH’s contemporaries (KISS, Motley Crue )don’t even both releasing new albums now. AC/DC did release a new album in 2020. I think they have more of an old blues men mentality than rockstar mentality and will just intermittently tour and release stuff until Angus is not able to don the school boy uniform anymore.

The episode where they fight over naming the band is one of the greatest things ever. I can't think of Sebastian Bach without his storming off because they wanted to name the band Godwar (which is Rawdog backwards!) instead of SAVAGE ANIMAL.

This was probably one of the only reality shoes I ever watched, if not THE only. The episode where they play their first live show was pretty cool and at the time I looked forward to them recording and touring but it never came into fruition.

I just thought it was great to see Evan Seinfeld in the same room as Bach, Nugent, Ian, and Bonham. It made total sense for Ian to be involved, since this was the height of when he whored himself out to any project that needed a few tasty riffs, but seeing Bach honestly act like he could rough Seinfeld up was hilarious.

Weirdly, I think Bas ended up being the outlier despite Seinfeld being most extreme musician and Nugent being the most extreme human being. Ian and Bonham seem professional enough (IE willing to sell out) to be up for whatever. Bach just sounded like he was trying (and failing) too hard at sounding like Robert Plant.

You get Ripper Owens in there and you probably get at least one mediocre studio album and tour out of DAMNocracy.

I'm going to need to relisten to decide if Damnocracy was a better reality show band than motherfucking Flickerstick though.

Jason Bonham sucked, too, and made me less interested in the show. At least everyone else is varying degrees of weird in a rock sense

Hard to think of many interesting famous drummers that would have done that show. I think the amount of corny, offensive boomer humor if you have Carmine Appice or Peter Criss in the house with the Nuge would have broken us all.

If he won’t do a tribute to his dead brother, he is not going to put up with Evan Seinfeld constantly asking him if his wife is interested in being a part of the porn industry.

His brother wasn't dead then and I don't think Seinfeld and Tera Patrick are still married

I'm hearing that new Bon Jovi docuseries on Hulu is pretty good and they even address Jon's vocal problems these past few years. I'll watch it eventually but maybe not right now.

Self titled, Generation Swine and New Tattoo are all pretty bad. I tried to come around in the S/T in recent years as fanfare around it seem to be turning positive but couldn't get into it.
