Concerts coming to your area: Good and Bad

Oh yeah. I am also seeing Primus and Coheed & Cambria in August but that is more of a plus one situation. I am pissed Fishbone dropped out as tour opener and got replaced by Puddles’ Pity Party.

Belle and Sebastian are coming to town in a few weeks. Not going to the show proper but have been invited to the post concert secret show with them and a couple local bands. Ideally I can make it and annoy them about "Lazy Line Painter Jane" in an intimate setting.

Almost afraid to look up how expensive these tickets are going to be.
Considering this might literally be the only time to see him, yeah they’re gonna be expensive. I might get one

So whoever the booker was for this apparently got covid and wasn't able to communicate with the venue or the bands involved for over a week, so no one knew who was booked or what the show actually was until it came up on the website yesterday morning. It was also not communicated that Belle & Sebastian weren't showing up, but that it was the drummer doing a DJ set, which didn't appeal to me in the slightest. And it wasn't that good, anyway. But it was free, and that's what matters.

"Country Thunder" featuring..... Nickelback?!?!

I guess the title could be implying the "Country" is the rural setting and not the music, but seeing a poster for this a couple hours ago made me do a double take

Nickelback recently collaborated with bro country doofus (and recent WWE PPV guest) HARDY and played at Stagecouch, which is country version of Coachella.

Brody: Matt and Jeff have a younger brother!?

This was bound to happen. People looked to the eras tour and thought "see? People will pay anything!" But failed to realize only a select few artists can command ticket prices like that on the large venues they perform in. That wasn't gonna be J. Lo or the Black Keys.

Friend grabbed us tickets for Pixies and Modest Mouse in June. I saw Pixies back in 2017 and they were awesome. Never seen MM.

Pixies still sounded great though they have zero stage presence. MM also sounded terrible. The music was good but whoever teched their set decided it was a good idea to drown the vocals and turn the guitars up to 11. Good but unmemorable show.

Last night I saw Alanis Morrisette for the 2nd time along with Joan Jett (first time) and Morgan Wade (who?). Both Alanis and Joan are phenomenal performers and would like to see both again. I'd actually love to see Joan headline.

Yeah it bums me out to see Joan Jett relegated to special guest/opener status. Hell, she was fourth bill on the Motley Crue/Def Leppard/Poison tour. I get Crue and Def being billed higher but her and Poison could’ve at least swapped that third spot.

Joan Jett feels more culturally relevant than Poison in the 2020s. Hell, you could argue solo Bret Michaels is more relevant than Poison. Which is weird cause solo Bret Michaels is almost all Poison songs with a few dumb covers Bret knows drunk people will like.

Saw GZA at the Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis a couple nights ago. Our seats were a few tables from the stage but the way it's set up there, we were basically in the front row with a completely unobstructed view of one of the goats.

Goo Goo Dolls tour in my area annually and just bought tickets to finally see them next summer. This may sound kind of lame but they're one of the few acts I never got to see. I'm not even sure why honestly.

AC/DC just announced a small US stadium tour but no NY area date so boo.
I went to this with my dad and man I’m glad I did. You can tell very clearly they don’t have a lot more shows left, they looked completely exhausted by the end. I don’t know how any 77 year old man can be so diesel that they make it through that entire setlist. It was great though and like, how often do you go somewhere with your dad and see someone (not a cover band) play the same songs that both of you listened to when you were each 18 years old? Shit some of them, my dad was even younger than 18. It puts a lot of things into perspective. The other bands we listened to when we were both 18 can’t play at all anymore.

I went to my second concert ever and my first since 2011 last night. Both were Kylie Minogue. No notes on last night, I got what I came for. Lower bowl, about a third of the way up at a 3/4 angle relative to the stage setups.

The opening act was excellent and even though I knew nothing about her (Rita Ora) she was wonderful and made me seek out her stuff afterward.

Considering she turns 58 in a month or so, I HAD to be there because I didn't know if I'd ever see her again. There was no struggling or anything that wasn't fabulous, I just live in North America in a place that isn't NYC, Chicago, or LA, cities which would guaranteedly be part of future tours that have NA segments.

Whatever, I had fun. Nay, the most fun and happiest I've been since going to Revolution 2022.

And that reminds me: There was a space cowboy-era Macho Man in the crowd! He was even sparklier than Savage's outfits were but it was unmistakable when you have the long tassels coming off the jacket sleeves paired with a cowboy hat.

Saw Offspring for the 4th time last night and they rocked as always. Jimmy Eat World and New Found Glory opened and it really excited my 15 year old self.

Contemplating Dropkick Murphys and Bad Religion on Saturday.

You're living 15 year old men's dream right before I really discovered metal.

I went to my first concert since November 2018 last night. One of LDP's favorite performers, and thus one of Junior's favorites due to exposure. While I can't say that I'm not disappointed in myself for breaking my live music chastity for a queef rocker, at least he has about a dozen or so songs that I think are legitimately good.

Rob Thomas puts on a hell of a show.

The highlights of the night were some guy working security complimenting my Sepultura shirt and, more importantly, Rob's manager finding us on the lawn to hand a free hat over to Junior.

Junior would NOT take the hat off once we got home. He's obsessed with it. Little dude had an absolute blast, coolest part (besides the hat) was when we caught him drumming along to the fill in "Can't Help Me Now" before the chorus refrain. Beat for beat.

Fuuuuuuuuck am I tired.

So Bad Religon and Dropkick Murphys was pretty awesome. I mainly came for BR as i'm not big on DM but I was impressed with their energy so I'll be checking out more of their stuff.
