Good news for our folks in the US. Congresswoman Katie Porter got the CDC Chief to have to cop to your government providing free testing regardless of insurance. Here's to hopefully helping you out.

There was no fucking food anywhere in the store just now. I have my stocked up stuff but I needed other things. Had to buy some shit I never would even think of buying.

The problem is every good item has a quick expiration. I mean, you buy banana's and they're good for like 4 days. Unless you wanna eat Campbell's and frozen shit for a month you just gotta hope you get in after stocking. I do think it will get better in a few days, as people can only stock up so much. Like, after you have 60 cans of soup you probably aren't running out to the store to find 20 more.

Go to the store early as fuck. Most 24 hour places massively restock over night. You're just setting yourself up for not finding anything good going in the late afternoon/evening when things are picked over. I went at 7am, which was later than I planned, but I found 85% of the stuff I wanted. Food shelves were packed. If you actually need shit rags, try looking at one of those Dollar Generals that are in the middle of no where.

Funny enough, when I was picking up some advil, there were two meth heads discussing which was the best sinus meds to get. Stocking up on the real "cooking" essentials in Indiana.

My brother works for the regional parks system here in BC and they're at least taking it seriously. They're doing complete cleans of all the bathrooms 5-6 times a day and everyone has to get sanitized every time they come into the office. Have to clean down all the trucks etc. If they're taking those kinds of precautions with the Parks I'm hopeful we're taking it seriously on all levels.

I worked OT at Walmart last night. Meds are wiped. Pads are wiped. Canned foods wiped. No TP for possibly a week. No water for possibly a week. Milk ran real low.
We had to kick a woman out last night for trying to "steal" our TP that we had next to our toilets in that roll holder.

A teenager came with his friends in a full Halloween HAZMAT suit. I was amused.

Sad thing is this inadvertently gave him advertising where people may pull up to buy from him and then he isn’t even paying seller fees.

Or he gets broken into and his head put on a stake.

I’ve bounced around stores picking up trivial things on sale to sell online but taking a UHaul 1300 miles and wiping out stores of something like this is gross. My uncle had told me about someone buying the case of sanitizer from his local Dollar Tree as was outlined in here, just seems wrong.

I think one of the more horrible things about this is that the feeling that I know a lot of people have is that the virus is already loose and even if we do implement like a Spain, Italy, or Norway type quarantine today, thousands of people will die so why not live life while we can?

People are trying to maintain some sense of normalcy when things haven't been normal for past three and a half years!

Our individualism will be our downfall here.

Went to Trader Joe's today. It was rather empty because most of the shelves were. Meat, frozen food, and more was gone. Went to Smart & Final and had a little bit better luck.

Gave two links, because neither was a great link. But first vaccine testing seems to be going ahead, so we might have something to fight it within a few months, depending on how testing goes.

Israel also found a key component concerning Covid-19, but I can't find the link on that, so just consider that as a 'rumor' considering I can't seem to provide the source that I saw that on.

Everything I've read/heard says vaccine testing is a long, slow process. On average, it takes about a year to go from "discovered vaccine" to "safe, usable vaccine." And there's no real way to speed up the process. You have to test it on animals, wait and see what happens, if it's bad, modify it and try again, if it's good slowly start testing on humans, modifying it again when/if it fails or has terrible side effects, and starting back at the beginning with animals.

Didn't know that, so thank you for that. They are currently testing on animals though, so that's why I assumed a few months. Figured we were closer than what we are. So thanks for the correction tekcop.

Though, at least we've got something in the works though. That's better than nothing.

I'm working at one of the US government agencies working on vaccine development now (I changed jobs from arms control in early 2018). I'm not a scientist, but everything I've seen and heard from the experts say a fast vaccine development and rollout would be like 18 months, and even then production capacity and having enough needles/syringes, etc. would be an issue.

There's also the immune-deficient (whether by condition or necessary medication) population, not to mention other potential comorbidities (other diseases and conditions aren't taking a break just because this is around now), so only bringing up the age issue by itself doesn't really tell a full story to me

Not downplaying it 100% but I would want to know more

I have a carry limit restriction due to a recent surgery so I did an online grocery order to get a few cases of water, since I’m not even allowed to lift a case of water bottles. My projected grocery order was $118 when I placed it Thursday. Instead of the usual next morning I get, the earliest available was Saturday between 6 PM and 10 PM. I took it but expected some cancellations.

Got my confirmation receipt and the total for what is being delivered is $17.46. Granted they still took off some coupons that probably has $60 coming to me still but just crazy.

My mom went to get some essentials from the store yesterday and heard about fights, had someone try to try to steal a six pack of Pepsi bottles from her in the parking lot when it tipped off her cart and overheard employees actually causing more panic in customers by telling them they didn’t know if they were getting more trucks.

Life comes at you fast, my dudes.

He does slip in some Trump ass kissing and misinterprets some data at others but at least he is a popular conservative making a statement on the seriousness of the situation. However, he seems to think that the 41 American deaths now are equivalent to the 1,000 in Italy which is blatantly false, considering Italy is about two weeks ahead of us.

As lawmakers neared a deal on a coronavirus rescue package that would include paid sick leave and free virus testing, a few roadblocks emerged. Among them: Republican attempts to wedge anti-choice restrictions into the House's relief bill, turning—if momentarily—a public health crisis into an abortion debate.
