If they go that route, just personally speaking, I'd do a rise and fall of IWA:MS and Ian Rotten.

They could probably do an episode on The Mike Levy incident itself, but Ian has so many fucked up things he's done in the ring or has been apart of that they can do an episode like the New Jack one. Shit, he was just in trouble fairly recently for getting into an altercation with a female wrestler.

Another modernish episode they could do is the Rob Feinstein incident.

Maybe it's because I'm such a big GCW fan, but doing one on the CZW vs GCW feud, or have that as part of a bigger part of an episode about how much of a piece of shit DJ is.

I feel like current indy wrestling is no more or less niche than territory stuff or even 35+ year old WWE.

GCW has drawn a few crowds in the thousands. And tbh, Viceland is already a pretty niche network.

The Hogan timeline/clips was so out of whack for a documentary that claims to be done by fans.

Eddy Mansfield claiming he drew money earned a good chortle.

I'd have to check my notes, but Schultz gave a similar account of the cops hog tying him in his shoot. I am not sure I buy Schultz account of the Mr. T incident.

I was pleased they included the story and images of Schultz "attacking" the Japanese reporter.

I don't know anything about Dr. D. Was he a good worker/heel? Like could he have replaced Orndorff in the main event of Wrestlemania.

I've enjoyed what little of his work I've seen, if that matters. Definitely a guy of his time but one who'd have been a bigger part of 80s WWF/JCP if this hadn't happened.

He wasn't a great worker, but he was one of the best talkers ever.

XPW would be amazing. There's gotta be so many stories we haven't heard.

I know people are mixed on Corny these days. But I got a laugh out of seeing him watching the Schultz slap with the biggest smile on his face. Like a kid at Christmas.

The actor portrayal of Stossel at his baby’s crib holding his ears in pain was funny as well.

John Stossel completely missed the REAL story that should have been told in his halfassed expose - the one about the promoters blatantly violating labor and antitrust laws for decades. I guess that's not as much fun as trying to make people feel stupid for watching wrestling though. That's what gets me; a proper investigative journalist would have figured out that there is a much bigger story here than simply telling everyone what had already been public knowledge for FIFTY YEARS by that point.

Dr. D was more of a talker than a worker, but he had a great in-ring presence as the unhinged gun-toting redneck heel. He was essentially Stone Cold well before Steve Austin opened his first can of whup-ass. I believe even Austin himself cites the good Doctor as an influence on the early Stone Cold character. Check out Schultz vs. Hulk Hogan in the 1984 match dubbed the "St. Paul Massacre" that was released on the first Hulkamania best-of video; it's nothing but fun. One of my favorite Hogan matches actually.

Cornette is really, really good on these when he isn't talking about Russo. That's why I want some Rotten, because I have nostalgia for when he hated him almost as much.

I liked Dr. D in the ring but he wasn't in the right era. A few years later, he'd have fit in much better with the late 80s NWA. I gotta always rep his surreal babyface work in Stampede because that just IS proto-Austin.

The general consensus on the old time boards over the years is that Mr. T/Hogan/Piper drew the eyes and Orndorff (who did his role well) was a +1. Piper+ Any goon would have drawn the exact same amount. Schultz was not even in the main event picture after the summer of 1984. The results for him are pretty consistently beating prelim guys night after night after night. With JYD,Snuka, Andre, Hogan and Sarge working a variety of guys.

He may have pissed Vince off way sooner than we realize. Perhaps being Hogan's pal kept him on the payroll for a while before he made himself a hassle.

Schultz was one of the guys who walked out on Verne, so even though he would have spiced up the AWA, I'd assume Verne told him to go piss up a rope.

Jules Strongbow told me last night that Stossel went to an army weapons range a week after his run in with Dr. D, and that was where his hearing loss actually came from. Since Stossel admitted to faking the extent of his injury, we'll have to assume that was a wrestling locker room story or perhaps his next assignment on 20/20.

It is odd that I remember watching the report air (I would have been 2 1/2, but was a wrestling fan really really early). It could be a false memory. I do vividly recall arguing with my Mama that Bundy's blood at Mania 2 was NOT fake/catsup.

Dr. D is nuts, but I'm gonna believe him over what happened with Mr. T over Hogan who bullshits about everything. Schultz actually came off alright I thought. I think he was fairly honest and he basically is who he is. He's still really entertaining as well. The stuff about Vince riling him up while also setting him up is total Vince horseshit.

Eddy Mansfield was unintentionally hilarious to me. He was right on about the health care and stuff, but 90% of the rest of what he was saying came off as bullshit. "ABE LINCOLN FREED THE SLAVES, BUT HE FORGOT TO FREE THE PRO WRESTLERS"

Never saw the Bounty Hunter clips before. Lirl at the one drunk guy saying "HEY YOURE DR. D DAVID SCHULTZ THE GUY THAT HIT GERALDO RIVERA". Stossel came off like a arrogant asshole and the final fuck you from him almost came off like he was cutting a promo. Had a real Dennis Miller vibe to him.

This ended up being one of the lighter episodes of the season and was a blast to watch. It also did the second best ratings in show history after the Benoit episodes so Doc D should get brought back by WWE for the main event run.

Conrad's Dark Side Pod with the producers is worth listening to each week. Conrad had them admit and explain why they include wrestler's BS stories like Eddy and Dr D were telling.

Apparently Eddy was off and on and off and on as a subject. He tried to tell the producers he was going to have the mob wipe them out if they covered his story. Mr. T was also a desired guest, but he could not be reached through his agent or church.

yeah that's the way I feel too. most of the eps have been done on subjects where smart fans already know the info and can spot the bs. There's almost no common knowledge amongst smart fans on the UWF.

Occurred to me that Abrams was before his time as he publicly bashed Dave Meltzer before it was cool. He'd be a folk hero to the Meltz hating crew online right now

The Schultz episode didn't really have enough for a full hour. I think my biggest takeaway is how Schultz seems a lot more well-adjusted and normal these days than I would've expected.

Stossel has been a total right wing nut job for years now. I think when people hear the name they still think he's a legitimate reporter, but he's up there with Hannity and O'Reilly.

I don't think he's a legitimate reporter, funny enough he was just the dude that got smacked by Dr. D to me which is what he said bothered him that he was known for in the episode. I haven't heard much else about Stossel at least in recent years.

I think Stossel was always an annoying gadfly and mediocre journalist. As this episode reminds us! It's just become more apparent with more TV airtime and more platforms to share his whiny libertarian views.

PWI had a good line noting that Stossel had a segment about tort reform while at the same time pocketing a couple hundred thousand from that lawsuit.
