I like my Demon Hunters's playstyle, don't like how emo he is with companions.

Is there a way to make it not automatically put you in public chat every time you log in?

Reason #19287B making a single player game require you to be online can fuck off: You have to install updates even if they fuck things up.
The latest update to Diablo III appears to be something of a downgrade for many players of the game. It's being widely reported by users on the game's official forums that a bug in the latest update blocks players from getting any experience points and level-caps their followers at level 13.

It sounds as though the bug affects only those with digital copies of the game—I installed from a disc, and haven't been able to replicate the problem with either my PC or Mac versions of the game.

Fortunately, it looks like there's an easy fix. Based on the chatter in general chat in the game, and backed up by the many posters in thread, it would appear that you have only to change your password, and you'll be able to gain XP once again.
Luckily there's an easy fix in this case, but what happens when there isn't?

In non bitching about the DRM Diablo 3 chat, I beat Nightmare difficulty this weekend and figure I'll give Hell a shot with my Wizard. I also finally unlocked the pony level, but only in Normal difficulty so far so it wasn't any kind of a challenge. Looks awesome though. It's very bright and vibrant and colorful and a real contrast to the rest of the game. And murdering my little pony ripoffs and smiling flowers is a ton of fun.

I didn't know about that level until you mentioned it. Now I have something else to look forward to after my company imposed permanent holiday.

You have to make the staff. Do you mean you can't find the plans for the staff?

There was a bug that let Wizards be invincible. And hey what do you know my character is a Wizard, and was high enough level to have the needed skills. Woot! So for five glorious hours last night I took my wizard from level 54 to 59 and act 1 of hell to act 4. I wish I could have done that in inferno, but oh well. It was just a ton of fun being able to take on large packs of monsters and not die instantly. This is another reason online only can fuck itself: cheating. Sometimes you don't want a challenge, you just want a god mode code to fuck around with.

Damn, wish I knew about that, have a lvl 60 wiz in Inferno, would have been sweet.

It really made me wish I had played more in the past so I could have used it on Inferno, but at least it got me through half of Hell and close to level 60. The funny part was right after I logged in and used it the system announced it'd be going down in an hour for a hotfix. Fuck! Well at least I had an hour. So an hour goes and the server goes down. I click resume game just for shits and giggles, and it let me right back in. Huh. And even weirder was the invincibility trick still worked. So I got a several more hours in before the next 'server going down in 60 minutes' announcement, and after that one the bug was fixed.

Also nice was that in addition to taking no damage you were immune to most status effects. I think jailer or whatever that's called still worked, but fear and knockback did not.

The next patch will add 100 more levels called Paragon levels that you work towards after hitting level 60.
Every Paragon level will reward you with:
Core stats such as Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, and Vitality in amounts similar to what you’d gain from a normal level
3% Magic Find and 3% Gold Find

Oh boy, now I can play the same hour or so of Act 1 that I can actually survive in Inferno 3,000 more times to slowly level up and still be unable to go further!

Diablo 3 is heading to the PS4 and PS3 with some goodies in tow, bringing all of the PC version's latest updates, "including Paragon levels, the Infernal Machine event, Monster Power, Brawling, and more," Blizzard writes. The console version will of course have customized controls, a new user interface and fresh camera perspective. Check out the first console images in the gallery below.

Diablo 3 on PS4 and PS3 will support singleplayer and two versions of multiplayer: up to four-player, local split-screen, or four-player online games. Blizzard will debut a playable demo of Diablo 3's PS3 version at PAX East from March 22 - 24.

Seeing all this D3 news, I decided to play for a bit on a whim. After the lengthy updating process, I noticed that the auction houses are much more reasonably priced, no doubt due to market saturation. Was able to buy some pretty good gear for my DH, including a kickass new bow, for about 40 grand total. Inferno is MUCH easier, and a group of blues is not a near automatic death warrant. I actually managed to fight my way through two of them at once surprisingly. Also haven't seen any of those irritating "Invulnerable" types that take forever to whittle down. Hope they removed those entirely.

Walked through the rest of Act 1 (the Butcher was a bitch, got the achievement for no flame floor/harpoon damage on Hell or higher difficulty) and I'm running through Act 2. It's not easy, but it's much more reasonable. I think they actually managed to find a decent balance. I like the new Nephalem levels. Feels like you actually have something to play for after you hit 60.

I just loaded this up the other day too, while the basic level stuff has gone down decently in price I have also noticed there are crazy high end stuff for lower levels, did a search for my level 44 and was seeing items that were item level 62 but usable at his level, and naturally the prices for those were through the roof.

Strange, because the bow for my DH was over 1000 DPS with attack speed increase and boosts on Dex and Vitality for like 30k on buyout. It's a level 62 I think. Maybe someone just underestimated the market.

The "invulnerable minions" enemies are gone, thankfully. That change and the assorted other patches they've done have improved the game noticably since the early days of D3.

PS3 (and now 360 as well) street date announced: 9/3/13. Also, pre-orders on both platforms receive the 'Infernal Helm' in-game item. Via http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/06/diablo-3-coming-to-360-as-well-dated-worldwide-sept-3/

No further info about the PS4 version release date (probably a launch title, would be my guess) or a potential XBONE version.

Went digital on the PS3 version. Was able to play a bit this morning (after having it download and install at 3AM last night) and it's pretty wild how "right" this game feels for a console and a controller. The dodge mechanic is really handy and I love how fluid the game runs.. I've yet to experience any slowdowns or graphical glitches even during heavy mobs. Can't wait to try co-op!

Waiting for the first sale and then almost certainly grabbing this. I have a few friends who'll love to team up over Live.

Really having a blast with this port. I'm so glad they released this game on consoles.. I dove into a few co-op games and they were pretty seamless. No lag at all, too!

I downloaded and played the demo, and was surprised by a few things. The biggest was how much I miss the micro-managing of stats at level-up like in Diablo 2. It's a little weird to level up and not make any RPG style adjustments to your character--I'm guessing the way you really delineate your build is even more through loot than in the past.

The ability mapping on a controller is really great. It seems like elective mode is disable in the demo, but I'm guessing it lets you map multiple abilities from the same category if you want. Suppose that influences your build, too, even if you don't have to make choices about which abilities you earn.

Having finished the demo, a question: does the whole game basically just feel like hi-res Gauntlet? It seems like almost all the RPG is gone from the action RPG. Which is fine, but might not actually be worth a purchase. It's a little weird how all your abilities/damage are linked just to the primary stat and the DPS of the weapon you're holding.

I got it. A friend and I ran all the way through the first major boss (The Skeleton King) this morning.

Feels like gauntlet to me, but I'm ok with that. I'd like a little more rpg attribute setting but the game is fun as hell.

Yeah, the demo takes you through the skeleton king. I just played it by myself as a wizard and that was fun, but I have a feeling I'd like the demon hunter or witch doctor more, as well as playing with friends (or even randoms). The combat reminds me of DA2. It's only $60 so I'll probably just go buy it and burn through my life for a while.
