While were on the topic of 'What the fuck?' end bosses, how about Final Fantasy VIII when fighting Ultimecia and she summons a monster that is named after what you named the ring on disc 2. And then of course it's never explained after the battle. It probably didn't help me that the first time I played it I named the ring 'Gay Ring' because I thought it was really stupid to be naming a ring, so then one of the final battles in the game is against 'Gay Ring.'

Haha that made me laugh, just thinking about the look on your face when the monster appeared.

Fuck it, ill probably pick this up for the ps3. There is bound to be thousands of DLC released for it which will probably improve it.

More likely thousands of DLC costumes for nerdy Japanese kids to dress the girls up in.

At least it isn't a Gust game, or else it would be:

Also, ever heard the rumors that Terra and Celes were originally one character, but were turned into 2 because of how sausage-heavy the FFVI cast was? Food for thought.

Related; a comic someone who goes by the handle Deptford posted on another board:

It looks as if the PS3 version of will look and sound better than the 360 version as Square Enix has had to do a lot of compression for the 360 version. And while FFXIII on the 360 will span across multiple disc, on the PS3 it will just take a single Blu-ray disc.

Brace yourselves, fanboys: A report in Famitsu (via FinalFantasy-XIII.net) says Final Fantasy XIII be graphically superior on the Playstation 3 compared to the Xbox 360 version, and it’ll sound better, too. That’s because Square Enix will use compressed video and audio on the Xbox 360 in order to fit the game on DVDs, whilethe Playstation 3’s Blu-ray drive affords a much greater storage capacity and won’t need compression. And even with the compressed assets, FFXIII will still spill onto multiple Xbox 360 DVDs, while the PS3 version is contained on a single, dual-layer Blu-ray disc. Fortunately, only the audiophiles and video nuts among us will notice the difference.

So graphical and sound decreases that I personally am not likely to notice, or have to blow the large pile of dust off of my PS3.

I think I'm still getting the 360 version.

Sabre, Do you mean there are no achievements for the game? Or that you would miss out on them by getting the PS3 version?

I've never heard of no achievements before so I'm assuming you mean the latter.

No im saying that collecting trophies doesnt have the same wow factor as getting an achivement score.

But usually like OKB has said, RPG achivements are usually a chore to collect.

The infamous Yoshitaka Amano's take on the FFXIII case:

Plus, no doubt the reason that the 360 version spans multiple discs is the same reason most RPGs span multiple discs: the amount of (in this case, HD quality) prerendered video.

Actually folks, it gets worse. Here's 2ch's complaints on the game and there's quite a few that are legitimate ones:

2ch said:
The whole game is completely linear until halfway through [approximately 20 hours].

There are hardly any towns.

The party is always fixed. The whole game just repeats the movie-battle sequence over and over [In fact the progression is closer to movie-run-battle-run-movie-boss-movie-run-battle…].

There are rather a lot of movies.

Moving around is like a long marathon.

The whole game system is just a clone of FF10.

You can’t flee battles [You can’t avoid most battles either as there is no sneaking past enemies, including weak ones].

Your party is completely healed after each battle.

If the main character in your party dies it is game over [There are only ever 3 characters in battle, often less, and often fixed].

The best tactic is almost always endlessly attacking. There is next to no strategy or skill involved.

The summons’ transformation scenes are a joke [i.e. Odin turning into a horse].

The story is rubbish… [Spoilers omitted, but complaints centre on Snow’s constant and cringe inducing insistence that he is a hero and will “protect” whatever it is the antagonists are menacing this time]

Shopping is only done at “online” shops on save points, with no proper shops to be found.

However, this doesn’t matter as you hardly ever get any money [and you can never buy anything more powerful than what you already looted].

There have been next to no changes from the demo.

The status screen displays no real information.

There are only 8 items usable in combat [For that matter, there are hardly any weapons or accessories, and the “crafting” system mostly consists of spending drops to upgrade their 2 stats].

There are no levels.

With all their advertising money, just how was it they failed even to get Famitsu to give full points?

I don't know, but the above nearly sounds like an MMO, and I've already got my fill of that with Lord of The Rings Online...

Think this is the first Final Fantasy game I won't be picking up.

I believe that if people loved FFX, they will love this game. If they loved XII, then they will hate this game.

And annoying male leads are nothing new as of late. Vaan (even if this was Ashe's story) and Tidus were very, very annoying. Every time, you decided that you wanted Basch and Auron to be the main people instead.

A complaint is too much walking? What is an rpg without galloping through deserts?

What if I liked both? And yeah, no more whiny bitch leads please. Man I was hoping through most of X that Auron would bitchslap Tidus and tell him to shut his whore mouth. Basche kinda tried too hard to be the cool anithero, but he was still better than "I Wanna be a cool PIRATE!" Vaan.

Looks like I will dislike this then. FFX was one the weakest entries in the series and I loved XII. But I am getting the same impression as you. This game is making all the same mistakes X did.

Vaan was the main character in name only. He is the first guy in your party and the story focuses on him for the first couple of hours, and then the others start to show up and he does nothing for the rest of the game aside from being the sprite you see when you go into towns. Officially he is the main character, but plot-wise he isn't important and you don't even have to use him in your party when you get three other characters. Balthier, Ashe & Basche are all far more important than Vaan, and even Fran is more relevent.

So a list of some guy's thoughts not only means that this game will now suck, but that FFX sucked as well. This is why Roger Ebert avoids all information about movies before he sees them.

Games aren't art, so it's a lousy comparison.

This looks like XIII will make FFVII look like Nocturne in terms of difficulty.

I don't know if XIII will suck, but there is definitely reason for concern based on the information coming out. I haven't played it though so I don't know.

Final Fantasy X, I played and beat and it without question was one of the weaker FF games.

I don't even know what art has to do with anything. If you were interested in the game, complaints you hear before you play it shouldn't make you do a 180. I'm sure they're valid criticisms for the guy who's played it, but it's very easy to make something sound bad by breaking it down like that.

I'm not sure why people go into RPGs these days expecting them to be as open-ended as Elite... RPGs these days are interactive movie games and vary rarely stray from a set path. If it tells the story well, has some good action pieces, then that's all I ask for. As long as the story and world lore sticks throughout I have no complaints.
