Re: Gay Marriage News and Discussion Thread - Part 2

My musician friend's rock band did a tour through (non-metropolitian) areas of Oklahoma early 2014. He came back wide-eyed and in disbelief. He said Louisiana loses the racism war to Oklahoma hands down. He said, "if you think you've heard racism in Rural Louisiana, they're fucking amateurs. You know I have very little semblance of a line to cross when it comes to crude language. These guys crossed my line 5 times a night. Every bar. Holy shit it was bad."

I asked him to repeat what he heard, since he has zero shame. He looks me dead in the eye, "No. Just...no."

So having never been there, but reading Dama's posts along with my friend's anecdotes, I'll throw a vote to Louisiana #48, Mississippi #49, and Oklahoma #50 in order of legalizing it.

You have no idea. We are like the reddest of the red states.

When Obama came after the Moore tornado the news sites comments were flooded with people talking about forming a chain in front of the neighborhoods to keep his "black, muslim, gay loving, american destroy ass" out. Dead serious.

For whatever reason, the article quotes from the dissent, which I talk up to Oklahoma media being lolOklahoma.

You're legal, absent a Supreme Court challenge.

Has "This is Oklahoma, not Oklahomo!" been utilized as an anti-gay marriage chant, because if not its bound to get some use in the next couple of days.

I don't think I've heard that chant before, but I tend not to congregate in areas where they're protesting gay marriage.

This morning, President Obama signed an executive order barring discrimination against LGBT people employed by federal contractors.

Said Obama: "It doesn't make much sense, but today in America, millions of our fellow citizens wake up and go to work with the awareness that they could lose their job, not because of anything they do or fail to do, but because of who they are -- lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender. And that's wrong. We're here to do what we can to make it right -- to bend that arc of justice just a little bit in a better direction."

More states holding gay marriage in limbo for appeals...

Colorado Supreme Court Halts Marriage Licenses

Boulder's county clerk and recorder was ordered Tuesday to stop issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples immediately while the Colorado Supreme Court takes up the debate.

The state's highest court announced Tuesday that it would hear arguments in an ongoing fight over whether clerks can issue marriage licenses to gay couples before the U.S. Supreme Court decides the constitutionality of gay marriage bans.

Medical & Legal Experts Request Ban on Gays/Bisexuals Donating Blood be Lifted

Currently, a man who has ever had sex with another man cannot donate blood in the United States -- a lifetime ban that has been in place since 1983.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration adopted this policy at the dawn of the AIDS crisis. However, changing times and technological advances have rendered the decades-old ban obsolete, said JAMA article co-author Glenn Cohen, who directs Harvard Law School's Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology & Bioethics.

For example, there currently is a maximum one-year ban in the United States for blood donations by men who have had sex with an HIV-positive woman or commercial sex workers. The same goes for women who have had sex with HIV-positive men.

This makes less sense than the ban on ME giving blood because of a flipping heart condition...that my doctor has given me a note saying, "This man is medically cleared to give blood." I don't have a risky sex life (well there was that time in a tent during a lightning storm :) ). It has been common sense for how long now that EVERYONE is susceptible to AIDS?

Stupid stupid stupid. If I'm losing blood I don't give two shits who the donor has had sex with in their life. As long as the blood is clean, I don't care!

The reasoning is the same reasoning Marney had for being against gay marriage. Wait, did we find out Marney's secret identity!?

The U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way Monday for legal same-sex marriages in five more states.

The court refused to hear cases from the states -- Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin and Indiana -- seeking to keep their same-sex marriage bans in place.

The high court's move also means that six more states -- West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kansas, Colorado, and Wyoming -- could soon have to lift their bans on same-sex marriage, because they are covered by the same circuit appeals courts that initially struck down the prohibitions.

Once that happens, the number of states permitting same-sex marriage would jump from 19 to 30.

I'm pretty stoked that my son will grow up in a state where gays aren't treated as 2nd class citizens!

They pussied out, but it works out for the greater good. Well, until a circuit court decides to uphold a ban, I guess.

Of course the people saying "Guess I can just marry my dog now!" are coming out of the woodwork in all my local news articles comments sections.
People are even referencing sodom and gomorrah. Although one guy called them sodium and gamora.

Would've been better if he said sodium and gamera.

http://www.adn.com/article/20141012/alaskas-same-sex-marriage-ban-ruled-unconstitutional-state-will-appeal

The Alaska ban on same sex marriage was struck down by a federal judge, but of course we're appealing because we're a very red neck state. We'll go kicking and screaming until the very end.

I went reading the comments just because I hate myself. I was expecting a WHAT'S NEXT CAN I MARRY MY DOG comment, and instead got a NAMBLA is next comment. Never disappoint internet, never disappoint.

I care less about this from a religious stand point, but please don't cheat, keep the aids in the relationship. We all know hiv/aids infects the male gays like wild fire!

From my home county newspaper's Facebook page. The article was on the first same-sex couple wed in the county.
