46% win rate in Hockey.
47% win rate in Tournament Pick'em.
32% win rate in Pro Football Pick'em.
100% win rate in Survival Football.

Wrote up a new article at Culture Crossfire looking at the thin position of Catchers, how to get near elite fantasy value by comboing two players, and utilizing splits as a platoon option.

Nice little piece. Platoons are effective in daily roster move leagues. Catcher is a position I've always felt you want a top 5 player. Inevitably your competition in the playoffs will all have elite talent at that position. It's essentially like TE. Average works week to week during the regular season. Once it's the playoffs and your opponents all have Gronk, Kelce, Graham, Ertz coming at you, you are giving up too many points.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I targeted Buster Posey in a league last year precisely for that reason. The flip side is seeing that "stud" Catcher go down for say even just a month long DL stint and suddenly you're scrambling to get absolute scrap heap garbage off the free agent pile in a 14 or 16 team league.

Whereas just playing the platoons, you can either get "hot" runs out of guys or as pointed out in the article, get comparable production without the steep price tags while bolstering the entire team with better quality talent. Then maybe luck out in the playoffs if your guy goes off or is having a particularly hot season e.g. Suzuki's 13 HR.

I'll pass. IIRC when it was set up it was only like 25-30? teams that you could draft players from which severely limits the ways owners can get unique and get quality production at positions.

My fantasy draft was on Sunday. Each team had 3 keepers, and my three were Fournette, OBJ and Hopkins so I started out with a nice edge over most, probably the second best keeper group (the previous champ had Gurley, Kamara and Julio) My team at the end of the draft:

QBs: Wilson and Bortles
RBs: Fournette, Collins, Burkhead, Penny and Montgomery
WRs: OBJ, Hopkins, Diggs, Stills, John Brown, John Ross and Dez
TEs: Rudolph and Hooper
Ks: Elliott and Gould
Ds: Jags and Bears

My home league, THUNDERDOME, had its draft last night. I am fucking doing cartwheels over my team, something I haven't felt in years after this league's draft. Good thing too, since I run it and put out extensive shit talk emails weekly.

10 team redraft, PPR, 6pt TDs for all, #7 spot:

QB: Cam Newton (8.4)
RB: Melvin Gordon (2.4)
RB: Lamar Miller (5.7)
WR: Odell Beckham Jr (1.7)
WR: Doug Baldwin (4.4)
TE: Rob Gronkowski (3.7)
FLEX: Marshawn Lynch (7.7)
FLEX: Robby Anderson (9.7)
D/ST: New England (16.4)
K: Matt Bryant (17.7)

Mark Ingram (6.4)
Sony Michel (11.7)
David Njoku (12.4)
Kenny Golladay (10.4)
Matt Breida (15.7)

The other two are already being dropped for people I forgot to draft late so I left them off.

GRONK IN THE LATE THIRD ROUND PEOPLE

Love the Gordon and Lamar Miller picks. Solid, productive RBs who aren't "flashy" but end up inside the Top 12ish range by year's end. Gronk is a STUD and a legit game changer at TE (on a good afternoon, he can outscore opposing TEs by 2-3x their points).

Who is the Eagle receiver to pick up? Mike Wallace, Shelton Gibson or Mack Hollins? Or Dallas Goedert?

Yikes, I've never even heard of the last three. I'mma say Mack Hollins because his name sounds like it should be Mike Collins, so much so that I typed "Mack Collins" at first.

I just traded Lynch and Ingram for Kenyan Drake, and got the defense I'll actually stream for the first two weeks. NEW LINEUP:

QB - Cam Newton
RB - Melvin Gordon
RB - Kenyan Drake
WR - Odell Beckham Jr
WR - Doug Baldwin
TE - Rob Gronkowski
FLX - Lamar Miller
FLX - Robby Anderson
D/ST - New Orleans Saints (TB and CLE first two weeks)
K - Matt Bryant

Dude trading Lynch and Ingram to get Drake is a really nice swing job. Though I'm kind of surprised that Cam Newton was available at at round 8. He isn't accurate, sure, but he still gets enough points that he's a good low RB1 option on all nights. Pretty good team overall. Nice drafting. If you can get one of the top rookie wideouts from the waivers/agency, I'd highly recommend it for tha tlast spot. In a 10 team league, good chance they weren't taken and they all seem like they'll produce quite well.

Could use some advice on a trade I was offered -

I would be trading Melvin Gordon and Jared Goff for Carson Wentz and DeAndre Hopkins.

My roster right now is QB - Goff and Stafford; RB - Gordon, James Conner, LeSean McCoy and Jamaal Williams; WR - Adam Thielen, Golden Tate, Robert Woods and Paul Richardson

PPR league

I know I’m a bit weak at WR and QB, but good at RB so I’m considering it but I feel like Melvin has more upside than Hopkins (and who knows how Wentz will be when he gets back).

That's a pretty difficult one. You definitely could use Hopkins. It kind of depends if there are any other RBs available on the free agent list. Not too keen on moving Goff for a hurt/recovering QB. I'd probably pass on it unless you can get a RB of some kind thrown to the deal.

Wouldn't do it. Losing Gordon could be a problem if Bell returns to the Steelers anytime soon, and if McCoy doesn't get on track. In the latter's case, on one hand, McCoy should be the entire Bills' offense, but on the other, he should be the entire offense and may get defenses stacking the box against him.

I feel like it will be easier to get WR help throughout the year, compared to RB, especially with PPR.

Hopkins is a top 3 WR. Gordon even in ppr is somewhere between 7 and 10 maybe even further down. There's always random RBs that can put up damn good numbers if you hound the free agents. Alex Collins last year. James Conner week 1. Phillip Lindsay in Denver week 1. Elite WR just don't come from the wire. You're lucky to find a guy able to pump out 10 pts on a semi-regular basis. I'm not a fan of the QB portion of the trade.

Fun stat, for my home fantasy football league we are in year #14. For basketball, it's going to be year #15. Crazy.

I got an interesting offer from an Eagles fan in my league. Tyreek Hill for Golden Tate. I was ready to jump on it since Hill is the better receiver and I’m thinking Tate’s touches will go down in Philly, but Hill is hurt and no word on how bad yet. Thoughts?

Was also thinking if parlaying McCoy in this deal with Tate for Hill and Bell, but that’s a big risk too at this point.

Is this only my experience, or are teams who are in first place the ones who complain about things being unfair the most? I have a dude who's got an insurmountable shitkicker of a team complaining about being at the bottom of waivers through texts to me at 9:30am.

EMERGENCY REPLACEMENT NEEDED!

I've just had a long-time manager in my keeper league have to withdraw, due to a family emergency. If there's anybody here looking to join a keeper league, holla at me.

So, my season's gone to hell in the league Slim runs. So I decided to gamble and do a dumb trade.

Zubac, 1st, 2nd and 3rd turns into The Brow, 13th, 14th and 15th. This was so dumb, but meh. I might as well do the worst thing possible and panic trade.

There's no way he saves my season, but I'll be happy if I can at least make the playoffs with it.

Apropos of the most recent post in this thread, I need replacement managers for a fantasy hoops league, live draft to be held this Saturday, at 8:00pm ET. Please PM, if interested.

A friend of mine started an NBA League. I had the fifth pick out of ten teams but I’m pretty happy with my roster

Jamal Murray
CJ McCollum
Lebron James
Michael Porter Jr
Bam Adebayo
Jaylen Brown
Kawhi Leonard
Andrew Wiggins
Marcus Smart
Tyrese Haliburton
Lauri Markkanen
Coby White
Jarrett Allen
Wendell Carter Jr

I was waffling between Wendell and Davis Bertans with my final pick. Figured i had enough guys that could swing forward that I should take the guy that can fill out a Center spot.
