So how exactly is Lisas Frankenstein connected to Jennifer's Body? I've heard "same universe" but haven't seen or heard how exactly they connect the two films?

Finally watched Thanksgiving and that was a fun movie. The pacing and editing helped a lot with its success along with the gory kills. The characters felt like typical Eli Roth written characters but they hewed closer to his Cabin Fever days and I liked the concept. The "who is it" was decent although I kind of suspected who it ended up being early on (although the reason was kinda dumb IMO) but overall, I enjoyed it. 6/10

Shout! Factory announced the following for May

-Killer Klowns From Outer space 4K UHD
-Gretel and Hansel 4K UHD
-Dracula 2000 Blu
-Island of Dr Moreau

“Killer Klowns” is obviously the one most will be excited for. “Gretel and Hansel” I remember enjoying though not everyone will like it (I think @RedJed didn’t care for it). “Dracula 2000” is one of my guiltiest pleasures to the point I sometimes feel embarrassed for liking it. “Island of Dr Moreau”…yeah, can’t recommend that outside of a few crazy “so bad it’s good” moments, plus the troubled production of it is more interesting than the actual movie.

Dracula 2000 has an amazingly angsty nu metal soundtrack which resonated with 14 year old me. Surprised the movie still has a following. Even as a kid, I couldn't finish it.

A lot of it is IMO down to the very 2000s-ness of it all. To me it's one of the few movies (outside of stuff like the American Pie-esque gross-out comedies of the era) that really defines that late 90s/early 00s vibe from the cast to the soundtrack to the directing style. I'd argue Final Destination is a "good" version of that similar movie feeling.

1999-2002 are also the years when horror felt most indebted to Nu Metal both in music and style. "End of Days" has Satan having sex with two girls while Limp Bizkit plays in the background*, "Valentine" has people dancing to "Opticon" by Orgy (which to be fair, is actually a danceable song IMO), the constant Virgin Records product placement in "Dracula 2000"...shit, "Queen of the Damned" was based on a novel but felt like someone did a re-write of somebody's Korn fan fiction and then wrote a script around it.

*also, Arnold making the world's most disgusting smoothie

Hell yes... I loved the 2023 Awards so I'm really glad to see this back.

Are people even going to remember that horrible Scottish theme attraction (let alone its lore) in 6 to 8 months or whenever this movie comes out? Friggin low budget movie makers.

I like 5 a lot and the ending is brilliant, but 4 admittedly is trash. But, it's so stupid and goofy I have a softspot for it. A White Supremacist gets killed set to "Why Can't We Be Friends".

2 is still the high point of the franchise. Especially that highway scene. But, there are so many other ridiculously gory yet hilarious deaths.

I don’t really have love for FD2. That opening scene on the highway was amazing. Actually scary stuff. Then I remember being in the theater, and every other death got laughs. Kinda made it hard to care about.

Got my ticket to see this Sunday at 11 AM :)
Reportedly this is getting ripped to shreds with an abysmal 4.8 on IMDB (where you have to trip and faceplant to not get a 6/10) so I'm skipping this and saving that $$ for the Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire movie. Shame as I was hoping this could be like another M3GAN type surprise hit and be pretty solid.

Yeah I have yet to see Imaginary, and may give it a look this week as I have a free Cinemark ticket to use up. But the trailer didn't fully engage me to run out to this.

So saw the newish IFC release, Stopmotion, this past weekend. To say this left me feeling unsettled and freaked out after the fact is probably an understatement.

I dont even know how exactly to word it, but this film is psychologically VERY creepy and just very dark-spirited and emotionally dreary and dire feeling in context. There are certainly some themes on an elevated sense about trauma and just going down a rabbit hole of increased levels of depravity as well. Most of the films plays like you may be in a fever dream, but then you get open parts of clarity on what is reality versus bordering on an inside look at a severe mental illness showcased in brazen fashion.

I have to say this was an incredibly effective film whatever the case. I left the theater (and mind you, I was in a big theater solo, so maybe that had an effect too) very creeped out by this downward spiral of psychologically scarring material. Such a uniquely strange story to begin with. Just top to bottom, a very unique experience for sure.

Also, I'm seeing “Late Night With the Devil” and “Immaculate” on Saturday.
I did the same....saw both of those on Saturday and I felt it was certainly a 2 for 2 situation.

Immaculate waaaaay overextended in what I thought it was going to be. I expected a paint by numbers religious snorefest but I'll be damned if it was almost the complete opposite of that. This director's first outing into horror was very audacious in a positive way. Shock value was on display here for sure, along with well paced and effective jump scares. Sydney Sweeney really performed her ass off here in ways I didn't expect, nor did I expect to find out she handled the main producing duties on this so this was kind of a pet project for her. The ending will get people talking and it made my jaw drop as it faded to black. This was effective horror and had a better story than it had any right to be.

I also really loved Late Night with the Devil. The deep intricacy of how this was presented was fantastic, it literally felt so much like an actual 70s talk show as they really went out of their way on the presentation aspects. Performances were fun, there was some wild twists, David Dastmalchian really shined here in just about every scene. The way this slowly went down the rabbit hole of doom was a fun ride. Such a great twist and change-up on the demonic possession concept.

Is Late Night a "nightmare" kind of flick? I'm already interested in it, but my love for nightmare horror may push when I see it that much forward.

Got my ticket to see Late Night With the Devil tomorrow at 11:15 because nothing goes better with Easter Bunnies and Chocolate than horror.

Ending up canceling the reservation as I didn't want to deal with the traffic/didn't feel like going out. May try to wait until this hits Prime for a $5.99/$6.99 rental where I can watch it at home with subtitles and such without dealing with the drive/other people on phones/etc.

The Sci-Fi Channel turned me onto Monsters and Tales From the Darkside since they'd air back to back in the mornings over the summer of 1994/1995 IIRC. I do miss shows having cool little intros like that.
