Hopefully the 3rd? 4th? 5th? time's the charm for that franchise.

Enjoyed the first couple episodes of X-Men '97... but I'm a sucker for 90s animated cartoons in general and stuff that slightly updates but hews towards that style.

Also the Beau news sounds like something had to have come up personally, very weird situation. Wouldn't surprise me if they cut ties preemptively before some bad news came out regarding his history/background.

Ok so I just finished Echo. Not a fan of making Kingpin look so weak. I can see why this show was a catalyst for a strategy change. The same studio made Reservation Dogs which is better on every level. It’s weirdly incongruent to make a much blander and more expensive show with similar tones. The studio has gotten away from what made Marvel great. It’s the stuff they made that’s not like everything else. And there was a lot of it. Doing bad legal shows and half baked stories like Echo isn’t gonna do it for anyone anymore. But when they made a movie about a hidden, secret African country with superior technology than our own? Or strange space people team movies serving a genre that no longer exists? Weird girl trying to copycat a more famous hero? I dunno that’s the kind of stuff I signed up for.

This show didn’t land at all for me. If they were trying to turn interesting material into something inoffensive and unprovocative they did a great job. Almost every show I watch needs to be telling me something. It takes a lot more effort to watch a show and I have higher expectations. The man hours they put into this weak sauce only for it to get dumped in one go with a ‘Marvel Spotlight’ tag at the start so they could disavow the show if it was poorly received? Not fooling anyone with that.

highest fucking reccomendation to Xmen 97. Best X-men thing ever I feel like. They paid tribute to the original show but made it grown up.

I kinda love how they avoided the temptation to focus hard on Wolverine. Almost seems like a secondary character, and I’m ok with it. You know big things are coming for him, but they’re in no hurry.

Series is great, and my interest was very little going in.

So I never watched the original show because of sports. Like I would catch an episode here or there or maybe have it on in the background, but I never went back and watched the series. Do I need to watch that before watching ‘97?

They do a pretty good job covering the stuff you need to know in the first episode but there's no harm in at least trying the original series if you want. I don't know that it holds up that well but it will give you a lot of added context for sure.

Do not let me down, do not let me down.

This is the best trailer so far I think because it isn't just a lot of jokes, which I mean is still good but this shows actual plot and stakes. Also a look at a lot of characters. I'm optimistic!

One point above The Flash. How do you obliterate a series like this

Metacritic is in the 50's. But they rated the other movies in the 60s. Guardians 3 had a 82 on Rotten Tomatoes and I really liked that, but Dr Strange 2 had a 74 and I thought that stunk. Quality can go either way for me, but I'm still pumped. It is worse reviewed than the other two, and going off reviews, director Shawn Levy doesn't add much like i expected. It sounds like enjoyable Deadpool stuff, but not a game changing mcu film which is what they need imo.

Sounds like it's a film that's caught between 2 worlds (pardon the pun): The fans who just want a genuine fun/good Deadpool & Wolverine movie and the MCU diehards expecting this movie to save the entire MCU and bring it back to glory (which I always suspected wasn't gonna happen).

Now that I've had some time, I'm a little mixed. It's definitely a desperate swing for the fences move. RDJ should kill it as Doom, but I wanted to see a newer face play Doom and get the acclaim and career advancement from it. That said, they needed to do something to get everyone buzzing again and this news has definitely done that.

It's definitely a big swing I agree. I don't know what the whole plan is, which is part of why I like it but my current assumption is that we will still get a "real" Dr Doom once the dust settles.
