Something I never really thought about with Vander Meer. He threw those no-hitters very early in his career. He was 23, the second one improved his career Win/loss record to 10-7. In today's climate you could imagine what that would do to his hype. Vander Meer had a decent career. 119 wins, four All Star appearances, led the league in strikeouts three times. WWII cost him somewhere between 20-35 more wins. He one-hit the Phillies in 1941. But maybe it's a bit surprising that he never had another no-hitter.

And I saw from Jomboy that they will be referred to only as “The A’s” during their time in Sacramento. No city or locale associated with the team name. It wasn’t clear if that would include being referred to as “The Athletics” as well.

I still think there is a fairly sizable shot that the Vegas deal falls flat on its ass and Vivek Ranadive swoops in and they end up somewhere in NorCal anyway (while Vegas gets an expansion team for having to put up with this crap).

I won’t believe that boob Jeff Fisher can get it done until the gates of the stadium open for the As first game in Vegas.

That's an old .Ralph Kiner line. Remember hearing that all the time growing up watching Met games. Maybe Ralph's greatest quote.

Now that Bieber and Strider are injured, MLBPA is trying to blame the pitch clock for all these injuries while the MLB is blaming the increased emphasis on velocity and pitchers trying to get more break/a higher spin rate.

"Major League Baseball pushed back on the union's statement, pointing to a three-decade increase in pitcher injuries despite the clock being implemented just last season. MLB said that UCL surgeries at the minor league level actually declined in 2022, the first year that the pitch timer was used across the minors. The league believes the increase in max-effort pitching and focus on pitch design have contributed to the rise in injuries more than the clock."

Once again, Trevor Story’s season is over before it really began for the Red Sox. He is having season ending surgery to repair a shoulder fracture.

If he didn’t have bad luck, he’d have no luck at all.

I don't want to throw in the towel after 10 games, but The Cubs blowing an 8-0 lead was incredibly humiliating lol. They got their work cut out for them in improving this bullpen. It might be historically bad. Jose Cuas needs to get DFA'd ASAP, but pretty much every pitcher outside of Javier Assad looked awful yesterday.

The fact I went to games where Trevor Arizas kid was playing is the one that got me. Like how. That dude just retired.

I can deal with Jackson Holliday being Matt Holliday's son, I can't deal with the fact that he looks 12 years old.

Mets are retiring Doc Gooden's number tomorrow. I have issues with Cohen obviously but this never would have happened under the .Wilpon regime.

The inaugural Jackie Robinson day in MLB was 27 years ago today with a ceremony held at Shea Stadium.

That group includes Alfonso Soriano, Joe Carter, Don Baylor and Steve Finley. He's near the bottom of the list in most categories. It's a nice, full resume, but I don't think it's a convincing Hall of Fame argument in its own right. That is not to say McCutchen is not a candidate. He won an MVP, he's someone I hold in high esteem. The problem I see is in career WAR McCutchen is in a group that includes Ellis Burks, Bernie Williams, Curtis Granderson, Torii Hunter, Vada Pinson, Cesar Cedeno, Mike Cameron, Devon White, Fred Lynn, Steve Finley, Amos Otis. You have to give McCutchen every advantage you can to elevate him from that group.
