This is a big reason the Nuggets are so successful. You have to play with discipline and you can’t keep jacking shots when they aren’t going in. Both Miami and Boston fell into this trap all series and Miami will get busted for it in the Finals.
That's one thing I noticed with the Celtics is they'd try to shoot themselves out of slumps, which is fine if you're taking high-percentage shots but constantly jacking up 3s and clanking them isn't going to help.

As a fan, it was maddening to see dudes drive to the hoop, have decent up-close chances only to pass it back to the 3-point line, and at best get a contested shot or they'd pass it around more. If you're driving and you're inside the free throw line, take the damn shot at the rim, or don't drive.

I grew up in one of those super anti-Celtics households and was indoctrinated into being a Lakers fan so this really hits with me. LOVE YOU PAT
I have such a hard time relating to this. One of the reasons it was so easy for me to walk away from my Kings fandom is because I didn't grow up in a house where my dad tried to pass his sports fandom down to me. Hell, I was eleven before I figured out that my dad even liked sports, that's how much he kept that shit to himself.

Like, my dad was born and raised in Chicago. He's been a Cubs fan for most of his life. We lived about 30 miles outside of Chicago from 6th grade to the year after I finished high school: we went to one game. One. We went to one Bulls game; I think it was the year after they drafted Jordan, and that was only because the Temptations held a concert in the arena after the game, and my mom wanted to see them. He's been a Bears fan his entire life; he didn't even bother trying to get me to like football. I can't even remember him watching games on TV, except for the Super Bowl. The only sport I've ever seen him show any passion for is the WNBA. And even with that, we've never rooted for the same team.

My dad also tried to pass being a Steelers fan and Ohio State football fan onto me and it didn't take. In the end my dad became a Dodgers fan and an LA Kings fan because I liked them, otherwise I don't think he would have cared. His affinity for sports where people get punched in the face, that one worked out for me too because I'm the same way. If not for my dad, I don't know if I would have been a Lakers fan. Yes I lived in LA almost my whole life but we watched Lakers games every other day from October-April/June for as long as I can remember. This run we sat here getting hyped and then at the end getting really pissed off. But what if we didn't? If not for some of those shared experiences I would have had a shitty childhood. I grew up without money and only went to three sporting events and one wrestling show by the time I turned 18. Somehow we went to a Lakers-Spurs conference finals game, and I assume my dad traded weed for the ticket or put it all on a credit card. We went to visit my dad's uncle in Sacramento and we saw them play the Magic but we didn't pay for shit. And we went to an Angels game but we didn't pay for shit.

The Lakers weren't great until I was a teenager, but for whatever reason it stuck. It might be the extent of the anti-Celtics feelings, and how often they were voiced that had a lot to do with this. My dad realllly hates Larry Bird and Isiah Thomas too for that matter. Despite not having money I think I won the lottery for good dads or something. Fuck man the realization that he's getting old is hitting me while I write this. If something happened to him I'd be lost at sea, but at least the Celtics didn't win on Monday.

He said some shit about not turning up if he went into the HoF. I’ve fully turned on this guy now he’s turned towards being full blown arrogant.

I think it's cause he has the record for most NBA teams played for.
I suppose that's as good a reason to like a random role player as any. I guess I just expected someone who's held up as this super-knowledgeable basketball insider, who has all these different connection points all over the league to have a better reason than that?

So, if this week's episode of Basketball Illuminati is anything to go by, Haberstroh's affection for Ish Smith boils down to the fact that they both went to Wake Forest, and their time in college partially overlapped (Smith's first two years and Haberstroh's last two years). Which I guess isn't completely lame?
