There was a Nintendo Direct mostly focused on 3DS earlier today. Here's a recap, or the full video:

I've been playing Picross 3D on my DS Lite most nights in bed since late last year. I'll probably just keep doing that. A $30 $48 CAD digital game from Nintendo is too many hurdles for my brain to clear.

Holy fuck. Everyone's signed onto Switch apparently from the partners who've Nintendo has stated they are working with. Quite a few on the list are people who said "yeah, we don't have any plans for the NX" either and are fucking liars.

Also, PORTABLE SKYRIM~! Yup, yup. This thing is going to sell like hotcakes if I can portable games like Skyrim. Speaking of that, I need money to buy this system. ASAP.

Oh, and how many people aren't going to buy the remastered version of Skyrim now? I mean, why buy it on anything else other than Switch? I mean, I won't until it comes out.

Imagine the wiiu controller which docks into a charging port which then puts the shit on your tv screen. It also has detachable controller peripherals for whatever way you wish to play it when out of your home.

To summarize:

New system is dockable. Able to play a ton of games on the go, can play split screen gaming, able to use the tablet portion as a monitor, can unhook the side pieces to be a single controller each, will have tons of third party games and be an awesome console/handheld, and a few new games have been shown off (Skyrim, Mario, Zelda and possibly Splatoon).

Anything I missed, my bad.

That was my initial thought—that Wii U games would carry over easily enough. Though with it moving from PowerPC to Tegra (ARM?), I don't think there'll be direct backward compatibility.

Not sure I saw any indication of a touch screen in the video. None of the slide-on "Joy-Con" controller options look like they'd be comfortable to hold, which has been an issue for me going back to the DS Lite and Wii.

I also totally missed that that was Skyrim the first time around. That's a decent get.

Here's a press release:

So, assuming it actually gets support (which is always the big if with Nintendo consoles) it seems like it could be an alright thing. Definitely gonna wait a while though to see if it looks like anyone but Nintendo will be publishing on it.

Yeah, so there are already companies lined up. Also, Bethesda is already publishing Skyrim for it and had stated they were interested in doing games with them. Since Skyrim's releasing, I'd say it is safe to say they've got other games coming from them.

Plus, I'm thinking pretty much everyone's going to want to get in on this. Having your big name titles on the go will make more people buy them and stick with the Switch.

Atlus being on there pretty much guarantees that there's a Persona 5 version in the works.

Even if it scales it down somewhat, you know what? I'll own only it. Because I can take the damn thing anywhere.

Also, I'd actually bet a lot of those companies are going to port over some of the older games. After all, why not bring out games that came earlier and have people go "Skyrim, on the go? Fuck yes". Like myself. Sure, it might look better on other consoles, but if I can take it with me, fuck the other systems.

I'm glad I didn't get PS4 or XBO.

Wii U had a 5 minute long video of 3rd party developers talking about how they LOVED the hardware and couldn't wait to make games for it, so.....yeah, that image means nothing until we see a second post-launch wave of games.

Yeah, remember when Mass Effect 3 and Batman came out on WiiU 6-12 months after everyone bought them on other consoles? And they didn't sell a lick and third parties went "Yeah, we're done here"?

Was it even that close to original release? Meanwhile, the only 3rd party games we've seen so far for the Switch are a basketball game that will be 5 months old when the system launches (assuming it was 2k17 and not 2k18) and a game that will be 5 1/2 years old. Granted, the Wii U's completely non-existent third party support is still better than the Wii's "we're actively trying to make the worst game possible" third party support.

Mass Effect originally was March '12 and Batman was October '11 (WiiU was November '12).

Hey, don't get me wrong, this is a cool as hell idea, but Nintendo has a track record here.

Going to wait a while here. After the Wii U, I won't be burned again.

See I said that after the Gamecube and Wii, but I've enjoyed my son's Wii U. It wouldn't be the only console I own because I can't make it on just Nintendo games, but it's a fun second console to play.

But I just bought it so I'll be waiting a while on this.

Because they want people to buy the remastered edition when it comes out next week, and not wait until March.

Yeah, they basically fucked themselves out of sales by having it be shown. Especially if they are doing this, it probably means that Skyrim Remastered will be a launch title for the Switch.

I for one ain't buying the Remastered version. If I can get it for say the Switch, I want the Switch version. And yes, I'll be getting one.

I don't see how that would dramatically effect sales. Nintendo consoles aren't game changers anymore and no one buys them for third party ports. I would wager that someone who wants Skyrim SE and owns a PS4/XBO probably isn't going to hold out for the Nintendo version, even if they are buying a Switch as well. I know I'm not.

There will be some like me who do though. Also, because they are different platforms, you can't use the same save file. Some people would rather have only one copy than multiple.

Right but if someone already has a PS4 OR XBO why would they wait who knows how long for a probably inferior Nintendo version of Skyrim (that video was using footage from a non-Switch version. Most likely PC.) when they could have it this Friday? This is why the "sales" excuse makes no sense to me. Nintendo, in 2016, is not a threat to PS4/XBO third party game sales.

Guess you and I will just disagree here.

That being said I like what I see so far. I'll be happy if it let's me take more games on the road.
