My girlfriend likes a lot of generic rock: Three Days Grace, Nickleback, The Fray, 3 Doors Down, (which I can listen to) and a bunch of country...her taste is pretty bad.

We don't actually have a Tower Records here, as far as I know. We have an FYE (was playing years-old Panic at the Disco last time I was there) and then loads of record stores across the water in Seattle. One such place, Easy Street Records in the beautiful Lower Queen Anne neighborhood, was also blasting some sort of emo pap when I was in there last week.

My local friendly independent record store has a girl with hair down to her thighs and dresses like Al Jourgensen. She's always listening to Yonder Mountain String Band or String Cheese Incident or some shit whenever I'm in there. Weird.
I once walked by a Hot Topic, and they were playing MC Lars' album The Graduate. I smirked.

I know that girl. Not literally, of course, but a girl who's really really into both of those bands. She and I became friends when we shared the independent study classroom back in high school (I was doing AP US, she was tutoring a Mexican, by the end of the year we just shirked our respective duties and watched movies or listened to dumb stoner music like Keller Williams). She's into riding horses (like the kind where they make you wear a funny outfit), smoking reportedly obscene quantities of pot, and listening to those jam bands where someone is playing a banjo.

Dude, you heard it because you walked into that store looking for a new Cradle of Filth shirt.

Isn't Laz a big MC Lars fan because he raps about Dante's Inferno or something?

I don't always get the hate for ICP.

I do get why they aren't liked to a certain extent, but c'mon, Great Milenko is a great album. And the new album is pretty good too.

Hating ICP is a waste of energy. It's like being disgusted by Kraft Cheese and Macaroni. It's everywhere, and so many people eat it that no matter how disgusting you might think it is, no one will listen to you anyway.

While I'll admit that I've listened to and nay enjoyed a couple of ICP song's and might have these handful of songs on my iPod, the ICP hate is the pseudo-culture they spawned and the dregs of humanity that flock to it.

I probably have a shitty taste in music, since I'll listen to a lot of crap, or the endless stream of pop-soft-rock that I listen to at work as just dulled me. People around me are usually way into country which I don't care for, but I can't say if it's shitty or not.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Irretrievably awful music. How can you praise their album and mean it without being social detritus? Aren't you the same guy that got a tattoo of your arm being chainsawed open from within when you were 12 years old? You basically are a juggalo.

In a related note, my buddy played Immigrant Song the whole way through to Niagara Falls (25 minute drive) and back. It was rough as at the time I hated Led Zeppelin.

In a related note, whenever we're in DC, my friend and I play Batista's theme song on loop

If I could say anything good about ICP, it's that they are marketing geniuses. They know their fans are-as Mazto correctly called them-the dregs of humanity, and have tapped into this evolutionary step back in a way no other cultural phenomenon has. They have used the Capitalist system for their own good, and it's been lucrative for them. That's nothing to be proud of, but hey.

Every once in a while I like to go on YouTube and just watch videos of juggalos talking shit into their webcams or pontificating on what it really means to be a member of the Dark Carnival and it makes me laugh very hard, so yeah I'm kinda glad that ICP exists. How anyone could actually like their music, I don't know, but luke-o IS British, so

The whole Juggalo thing amazes me, considering ICP was fringe-popular when I was in middle school, and that's about 15 years ago now.

I've seen guys in their late 30's/early 40's who love ICP. It's depressing.

There's this guy I know that acts like a 12 y.o. when it comes to music. If it's loud 'n' angry, he's into it, with a catch: only if there's plenty of cursing. He's said things like "I mean, this albums good, but they barely curse on it. They only curse on this song, and this one..."

One time, 10 years ago, he put on Methods of Mayhem in the car. Yes, that's Tommy Lee's one-off rap-metal album that featured "Get Naked." When a particular track started he said "this is the best song on the album!" It was a song about giving the middle finger to cops, and the word "fuck" appeared about 50 times. I was confounded as to how it was the "best song," as the beat was very plain. In fact, it simply seemed like the music was there to support the obscenities.

This area is very poor and very white, so there's a rather large Juggalo contingent. My brother-in-law played me a homemade CD that one of his coworkers had been circulating around his workplace. In it, a guy named Mr. Murder and his brother Ghost rapped over the "Oops I Did It Again" music track. They called it "Oops I Cut Off Your Head" and it was the worst thing I've ever heard.

I've never been more than a casual music listener at best, so I usually try to stay out of discussions like this. But there is one very common type of personality I can't stand: people who condescendingly dismiss an entire genre of music as being awful. I'm not a big fan of county music, for example; I never set the radio to country stations, I rarely if ever voluntarily listen country songs in general. But even I have a few exceptions, songs in that category that I did enjoy. I wouldn't say something like "all country music is worthless and you're stupid if you like it". So it's annoying when you consider the sheer number of people who would say exactly that, and mean it, about whatever their least favorite type of tune happens to be.

The thing is, I wouldn't classify myself as one. I know some, but wouldn't say that I am one. I don't believe in the "dark carnival" or that lark (although I think it's a great gimmick). I haven't been to a concert or done the whole face paint thing. Plus, I'm not religious.

If there was one thing I don't like about ICP, it's their fans. Well, the rabid hardcore true believers anyway. I don't get people who become obsessed with acts such as ICP to the point where it becomes a huge part of their existence. I truly don't get it.

But I do like most of their music.
