Obviously, Trump is going to blame it all on outside agitators and downplay the racial injustice/legitimate protestors angle. But it is possible there are anarchist/antifa idiots and agent provocateurs who are ruining it for everybody but I hope/think BLM and other legit protestors should be able to weed them out easily. See that dumbass who smashed an AutoZone with the umbrella the other day.

"Legitimate" protesting has been going on for years. Rioting is the next step. Doesn't really matter who instigates it.
The whole outside provocateurs argument doesn't really seem to match what's happening most cities, either. It tends to be specific businesses that are being targeted. In Minneapolis, locally owned businesses were generally left alone while McDonald's, Arby's, Autozone, and Target burned. In Atlanta, protestors diverted around a Waffle House mid-riot. (Because I guess people love Waffle House?) In Oakland, it was a bank.

I probably shouldn't have said antifa. I'm generally in support of antifa. Anarchists are doofuses but I'm more on their side than the cops. I guess point I was trying to make is when it comes to these protests, white people probably shouldn't take the lead.

There was a press conference at which officials in Minnesota said that almost everyone who got arrested was from out of state and/or a white supremacist. Then the Trump Admin had their own press conference and blamed ANTIFA.

Can't wait to get out of work and drink some more beer & smoke some weed so I can try and make sense of what I was trying to say earlier.
I think the discussion of outside agitators requires more nuance than Twitter and maybe even TRTSM (and certainly my brain) can handle. It's definitely possible that there are protesters acting in bad faith and ruining it for everybody. A lot of BernieBros on my Twitter are saying anyone who believes that are just neoliberals trying to sew discord amongst the activist movement.

This is gonna get nasty in a hurry... In the below link there's a tweet showing the live broadcast and this cop randomly approaching the journalist/camera person and just shooting.

We aren't even properly militarizing police in the first place. We're handing military grade weaponry and gear to departments that lack the training or accountability to utilize them.

I'm not sure if giving them the proper training would make things any better. It'd probably make it worse. Just take the damn weapons from them! I read something like Los Angeles' yearly budget is like 50% dedicated to the police.

I don't understand why people are trying to qualify the violence of these protests by claiming they come from "outside sources" or whatever the hell. First of all, this issue isn't isolated to a single police force, city or state. This is a nationwide crisis that has existed since police forces were invented to catch runaway slaves. If a protestor throws a brick through a Starbucks window in St. Paul, I don't really give a shit if they're from Duluth.
But second of all, and far more importantly, isn't it obvious that the violence of these protests is effective? Isn't it obvious that the only reason Chauvin was ever arrested is because a police station burned to the ground? Of course the protests are violent--it works.

This is tweet I saw. Being around nightlife so much, I'd probably trust bouncers to police things less than actual cops.
I absolutely agree that the system needs to blow up but got to figure out how we're going to rebuild and not make the same (or worse) mistakes.

I may be a (cautiously) optimistic fool but the riots do feel different this time with Gauvin getting arrested a lot quicker than other dirty cops. It's not nearly enough but it is something.
At risk of sounding like an All Lives Matter doofus, police violence DOES effect everyone and all of this rampant spending on policing doesn't do anyone good but POC communities are on the firing line. This feels like a pivotal now or never moments. Now is the time to stand up. Just got to keep pressing on.

I would be for police abolition if I thought thought there was a current realistic alternative to it. As it is I think we need to de-militarize the police, narrow what the police actually respond to more and more, focus more on restorative justice, etc.
