Keiji Mutoh and President Kaz Hayashi held a press conference at the GEN Sports Palace Media Center in Okubo, Tokyo to announced that WRESTLE-1 will suspend all activities as of April 1st. This date also being their last show at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.
Mutoh stated that the promotion has faced a deficit after the launch, in July of 2013, and they have struggled ever since. Mutoh stated that GEN Sports, as the owners of W-1, which is connected to K-1, has take up the financial burden year after year. Which it has been decided that there is no reason to inconvenience them any further. President Kaz Hayashi stated that everyone involved in W-1 has tried hard to keep this from happening, but sadly it was just beyond their means to turn things around.
The entire W-1 staff and wrestlers will be no longer under contract with the promotion as of March 31st. Though they have agreed to take part in the final show the following day. The event card will be announced on a later date.
Mutoh also announced that his final appearance for the promotion will be on March 15th for the final big show in Ota Ward. He will be unable to attend the Korakuen Hall show on April 1st as he is previously booked to be in the USA for several independent shows during WrestleMania weekend in Tampa, Fl.
