Okada Vs Jay White, Ospreay Vs Shingo, and Tana Vs Taichi all seem like odd matches to waste on the first round but I guess they need to generate some excitement on those shows. Consider me pumped for MiSu Vs Yuji Nagata as well.

I don't know if anyone else watched the Nakanishi retirement show but his farewell match was about as good as you can get for a nostalgia guys Vs current stars match. They did a great job of reminding fans what made the NJPW Dads so great without overshadowing the current roster. Also fun and random as hell to see Tanahashi act heelish.

So after all the announcements for the awesome matches coming up in March, this happens

https://twitter.com/njpwglobal/status/1232644326540247041?s=20

DDT has made a similar announcement for cancelled shows in March, and I imagine we'll be hearing from the other feds in due time

Wrestle-1 is dead as of April 1.

Keiji Mutoh and President Kaz Hayashi held a press conference at the GEN Sports Palace Media Center in Okubo, Tokyo to announced that WRESTLE-1 will suspend all activities as of April 1st. This date also being their last show at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.

Mutoh stated that the promotion has faced a deficit after the launch, in July of 2013, and they have struggled ever since. Mutoh stated that GEN Sports, as the owners of W-1, which is connected to K-1, has take up the financial burden year after year. Which it has been decided that there is no reason to inconvenience them any further. President Kaz Hayashi stated that everyone involved in W-1 has tried hard to keep this from happening, but sadly it was just beyond their means to turn things around.

The entire W-1 staff and wrestlers will be no longer under contract with the promotion as of March 31st. Though they have agreed to take part in the final show the following day. The event card will be announced on a later date.

Mutoh also announced that his final appearance for the promotion will be on March 15th for the final big show in Ota Ward. He will be unable to attend the Korakuen Hall show on April 1st as he is previously booked to be in the USA for several independent shows during WrestleMania weekend in Tampa, Fl.

This whole thing only happened because the former owner of AJPW was such a dickhead who had no idea what he was doing and Mutoh and his guys couldn't take it anymore and left. On the one hand it is a shame the company is shutting down because the last year or so they finally started to find their ground with STRONGHEARTS and other guys coming in and a really good crop of trainees starting to impress people. On the other hand there are too many companies in Japan and they aren't making money.

What I HOPE happens is some of these guys end up in AJPW/NOAH/NJPW/etc but what is the usual pattern is that we get 4 smaller splinter companies.

Tokyo Sports posted something speculating that AJPW may be merging into WWE. There is speculation this is part of the reason that Jun Akiyama is the Performance Center this week.

AJPW just tweeted that Jun Akiyama was going there to learn about WWE's television production as well as the guest PC Coaching.

So in case you're wondering "Why the hell are there so many camera cuts? I just want to watch this Kento Miyahara match!" in a few months...

NOAH GHC Heavy Result from today:
Go Shiozaki (c) defeats Kazuyuki Fujita (57:47)

I mean even when he was young Fujita wasn't a long match guy... Seems crazy.

The STARDOM Cinderella Tournament, which actually had a small crowd (nice to see as a change of pace tbh). Starts about 10 minutes in.

The president of AJPW, Tsuyoki Fukuda, said in the press conference announcing the cancellation that he will "make every possible effort" to run the tournament this year.

I don't click on articles and I assume most other people don't, either.

Another reason to subscribe to Beard Daddy's favorite streaming service IWTV. They're going to start airing these shows next Thursday.

Brother, I live in the sticks. You guys would be giving the 'rona to me and risking spreading it across York County, Maine!

It is disconcerting that we're canceling things in three and a half months but realistically, yeah, I knew there was no way that I would be sitting in MSG with Brooklyn Zoo and Big Beard Booty Daddy watching Okada by the end of August.

Not surprising. Tickets were going to go on sale next week, so they had to make a choice. Trying to get talent into America would have been an issue, too. I'd rather them postpone it for everyone's safety.

Okada dropped 5 Million yen (47k US) for coronovirus relief. Pretty cool.
