Japan has extended the state of emergency in Tokyo and Osaka through June 20th.

NJPW has biggest show during that time period, Dominion on June 6th in Osaka. Ooof.

Olympics this summer aren't sounding particularly likely to happen either. Japan only has 2.3% vaccination rate. Oof x2(.3?)

Gedo's booking is complicated but as easy to understand as a ripe watermelon. I wonder if the first show after Dominion will open with Gedo saying that the last year and a half were all a dream.

I dunno the crowd seemed pretty ok with it and translating (thanks google!) the comments seem to be all positive. I love Kongoh but they can't keep all of their quality young heavys in one stable forever. This isn't NJPW.

Yeah it's something that works in storyline, Kitamiya was a founding member of Kongo and it'd make sense that he doesn't trust latecomer Nakajima (tag team run notwithstanding), especially after the latter has already betrayed one faction. Also purportedly there's a history between the pair going back to Kensuke Office early last decade but I imagine @cobainwasmurdered would have to elucidate more on that as my KO knowledge is minimal

Only question would be the "why now?" which I suppose we'll have to see how that plays out in storywise

I don't know if there's any inside shit or anything but obviously Nakajima was the golden boy of KO to the point he was talked about as Kensuke and Hokuto's adopted son and wrestled Kensuke in what was his final match etc. Kitamiya was at best third banana behind Miyahara as well which I mean...yeah. I don't remember most of the retired guys that well at almost 10 years remove but it was a solid group. That top 3 is pretty impressive.

wasn't implying any inside or personal behind-scenes beef, just whatever the kayfabe history was between them, which yeah Kitamiya as a rookie being bitter about Nakajima as the golden (literal) child of Kensuke would definitely feed into this

gees that was rather quick

if they were going this direction they should have pulled the trigger earlier with establishing Kitamiya's distrust/dislike of Nakajima and then work the cage match into the big Saitama show next week... but as the Mutoh reign among other things have shown, long term consideration apparently isn't one of Nosawa's strong (style) suits

in addition to Dominion, the Cyberfight Saitama show was this weekend. I didn't watch it live, will try to knock that and Dominion out over the next day, but I've been hearing good reviews of the DDT and TJPW main title matches

Also our long NOAHtional nightmare is over* as Mutoh finally loses the GHC belt to the young up-and-comer Marufuji, with a match that I assume was divisive just like every other Mutoh GHC match (I only watched a clip of the ending, that's good enough for me)

*until such time that Mutoh decides he wants to be the first 60 y/o champ in one of the major feds

Wish someone other than Marufuji had beaten Mutoh as much as I like him and am glad Mutoh lost the belt. They should have done the Kitamiya heel turn on this show after building it up for at least a month or so because it would have been the biggest possible audience for it.

I know he's not nearly as old and hopefully not nearly as washed but Naito wanting the IWGP Tag Team Titles gives me Ric Flair: Intercontinental Champion vibes. It's an upgrade from feuding with Honma at least.

Not wrestling related but how the hell does Japan expect to have the Olympics in two months? All the referees and ringside commentators are double masked (and even BUSHI has his nose and mouth covered)

With them eliminating the IC title they're putting over the tag and 6 man belts as bigger deals so it only makes sense for guys like Naito to be going after them more now. It really adds a lote more interest to the division honestly. We don't need to see GOD, Tenkoji and Dangerous Tekkers going at it for another billion years.

Something like 3% of the population has been vaccinated in Japan, at least that was the last I heard about 2-3 weeks back. That's embarrassing for a country as big as Japan, with the resources they have. But they are also a culture that doesn't believe in vaccines. The Olympics really won't be happening at this rate. I've seen a number of Japanese wrestlers Tweet about how they want Japan to get on the ball and get the vaccines out already (mainly a lot of deathmatch wrestlers who want to come to America, especially after how big Tournament of Survival was this weekend).
