Yeah...so Super Meat Boy is fucking awesome. And if you buy it on XBLA by the end of the month it's only 10 bucks instead of the 15 it will be. And it's worth the 15...so buy it now.

That was the first thing I did this morning.

It's awesome and it makes me want to punch babies.

Then again, just about anything is a nice relaxing break compared to meat boy.

So finding out the number of total NES games got me intrested about other platforms.

NES: 798
SNES: 785
N64: 387
Gamecube: 640
Wii: 1,146 (still counting)

PS1: 2,409
PS2: 2,015
PS3: 649 (still counting)

Xbox: 959
Xbox 360: 761 (Still counting)

Sega Master System: 318
Sega Genesis: 915
Sega Saturn: 540
Sega Dreamcast: 720

I got these numbers from Wikipedia so they may or may not be that accurate. PS1 and PS2 are certainly the systems I didn't think had that many games released. I mean I knew a lot of games got released for the two systems but 2,409 for the PS1 and 2,015 for the PS2 is just crazy to think about.

I'm not so surprised to see that many games for the Nintendo Wii since the Wii has a game for just about anything and everything you can think of.

The sad thing about that 1000+ for the Wii is that only about 100 (maybe less?) are worth a damn.

EDIT: is that number inflated to include Virtual Console and WiiWare titles?

I doubt it. Seems for every "good" game that gets released, there are a hundred shovelware titles. I remember an interview with someone from Nintendo several years back, before the launch of the Wii, where the guy bragged about all the games that would be on the Wii because it would be cheap to develop them. He was right.

That's sorta crazy to think that there are 749 NES games in that clip. Anyone know what the total number of NES games that came out for the system? (Only counting licensed games)

Edit: Nevermind. I was able to find it. 798 games total. That's fucking nuts.

It was fun trying to ID those games based on 1 second of gameplay. Good stuff.

Nintendo really wanted 3rd party support since one of the major complaints about the Gamecube was that there was barely any 3rd party support at all.

They've got a pretty damn good Michael J. Fox impersonator for the BTTF game.

Which translated to "We'll greenlight every subpar mini-game collection that you come up with. We don't care that there are about 500 variations on Wii Sports; parents are dumb and will pick up anything the clerk tells them is ok (believe me, I have firsthand experience)."

Speaking of anniversaries, they released a special edition of Mario All-Stars in Japan that has some bonus, never-before-seen design documents that reveal the following: the original control scheme for Super Mario Bros. was left and right to move, UP to jump, B to run, and A to KICK. Also, Mario was supposed to be able to pick up laser guns, rifles, and jetpacks.

I remember the PS2 launch pretty well. Originally didn't want one but in like February of 2000 my friend working at a games store in the mall convinced me to put down the $10 deposit. I figured why not I could just get my deposit back. Fall rolls around and PS2 fever is sweeping the nation and I was no exception. Then news of the limited number of release consoles spread and I was worried about getting mine, especially given that I was in school and my parents weren't going to let me skip just to go buy a $300 game console. Luckily they agreed to go to the store and get it for me, and luckily I had placed my pre-order earlier enough that I was pretty much at the top of the list at that store so they were able to get mine no problem. I was quite the happy teenager when I got home that day. And how did I break in my device? With GI Joe The movie on DVD!

(and then there's that whole bit about the thing breaking a month later, but I'll forget that and just remember the good memories!)

I know I got Majora's Mask in its lovely gold cartridge that day. Wouldn't have minded a PS2, if only for the few DVDs I owned and couldn't play, but I didn't have $520 for it. Oh, the days of 50% CAD exchange and 15% tax. I didn't end up getting a PS2 until something like Christmas '03 with GTA: Vice City, which I played the fuck out of.

What was everyone's first PS2 game? Mine was Dynasty Warriors 2 (30 enemies on screen at once, SHIT I'M BEATIN!), then I picked up Silent Scope followed by the criminally underrated Street Fighter EX3 (fuck the haters!).

I got my PS2 on Christmas 2002 with a couple games but I remember the first one I put in was Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth.

My first three PS2 games that I owned were Metal Gear Solid 2, Crash Bandicoot, and Resident Evil: Code Veronica X.

By the way, the arcade at the mall brought back Aliens: Extermination!
