October 2001. The plan was to quickly grab a copy of the Mick Foley Hard Knocks and Cheap Pops DVD (this is back when the idea of a DVD release with extra matches of something WWE already put out on VHS was very new) but the first DVD I bought / watched was Ghostbusters. I think my PS2 came with Gran Turismo, then a few weeks later I bought Just Bring It.

I didn't even realize how 9 years later, this parallels my PS3 purcahse. When I bought a PS2, I didn't own a DVD player. I bought a PS3 because it was a Blu-Ray Player (and a game console, but I thought it was time to go Blu) and you know what the first Blu-Ray disc I watched was? Ghostbusters.

Got my PS2 for GTA3 after seeing it at a friend's house & being blown away. Second game was GT3 when that went on the greatest hits list for $20, and then after that I went used game shopping & picked up FFX, NCAA Football 2002, and a couple others I don't remember because the other two completely blew me away & got me hooked onto a new series of games, respectively.

I went to try and preorder a PS2 in September of that year at the mall no one goes to and even there they told me I had to wait till the third shipment and I wouldn't be getting it for a while. The clerk told me that I could take a chance in Rochester where they had just opened a new location...so I got in my car, drove over, and managed to get on first shipment and walk out with it the day it came out. Then I bought GTA 3 soon after and my mind was blown.

"Soon after"? It came out a year after launch!

According to archived e-mails I have from 2000 (which people seem to think I'm odd for having), a friend of mine picked a PS2 up on a whim from the local Zellers at launch time without a problem.

I liked how the game would make fun of you if you were playing on a holiday. ...I needed something to do on Christmas.

Yay, more Zombies! Just what the gaming world needs! Really though, Oregon Trail (and games like it) is a fantastic trip down memory lane, so I'll have to check this out.

At Long Beach Comic Con, Christopher Daniels was signign autographs. I was the only person in line; I shook his hand made a little small talk. His iPhone was on the table, and it was playing Angry Birds. He's trying to three star every level. Welcome to hell, Fallen Angel.

Target's ad only shows a handful of games, but pretty much every title $19.99 to $59.99 is part of the sale. At least for X360, PS3, and Wii. Didn't see signs on the DS games.

Ok, I've never played a Touhou game, and I've never felt the need. But after continually listening to remix music of it, I feel the need to try it. I'm assuming someone's played a Touhou game, which would you recommend for me? Or do you think I should start right from the first and work from there?

I just started with 12/Undefined Fantastic Object and went from there. I haven't really touched anything before 9/Phantasmagoria of Flower View because of lack of time, though. However, besides 6/Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, or maybe 7/Perfect Cherry Blossom aside, it's probably the most straight forward Touhou game. By which I mean, not too many gimmicks to deal with or shot types to have to choose from. So UFO or EoSD are good places to start from.

If you don't care about story order, you can probably go to 7/Perfect Cherry Blossom next, then 10/Mountain of Faith, followed by 8/Imperishable Night, and after that 11/Subterranean Animism. Keep in mind I'm going by which has the most gimmicks and variables to deal with, and not which is better... since IN is said to probably be the best, or difficulty, which I've heard would be PCB.

Phantasmagoria of Flower View, 10.5/Shoot the Bullet, 12.5/Double Spoiler, 12.8/Fairy Wars, 7.5/Immaterial and Missing Power, 10.5/Scarlet Weather Rhapsody, and 12.3/Hisoutensoku are wholly different games. They're still good, but not very representative of the "main" series. PoFV aside, they're all spin off games.

PoFV is a split screen versus sort of game, but shooting is still there. IaMP, SWR, and Hisoutensoku are your fighting games, of which IaMP is somewhat dated. In StB and DS your objective is different and it's mostly dodging. Fairy Wars is the very latest and is basically a mix of main series and StB/DS gameplay.

Touhou 1-5 should be your very last priority.

Okay, so start with Undefined Fantastic Objects. Gotcha.

Though I wasn't sure anyone was going to be able to assist me here, as I'm not sure how many people knew of the series on this board. So thanks Golgo.

After getting shown up by a super fan who pointed out a flaw in their game's continuity, World of Warcraft developer Blizzard could have taken their lumps in stride, chalking up their fiction foible as a simple oversight, and moved on with no further mention of the incident.

Instead, the ace game makers proved why they enjoy such a rabid following by paying their newly famous critic the highest honor imaginable: he's now a character in the game.

The new character, cleverly named "Wildhammer Fact Checker," can be found standing right next to none other than Falstad Wildhammer -- the very hero whose health status flummoxed the game's designers at the recent BlizzCon expo. Clothed in a red tunic as a nod to the Red Shirt Guy's preferred choice of garb, the Fact Checker is no hoax, having been confirmed by the game's lead designer, Alex Afrasiabi, on the official Warcraft forums. Awesome? Completely.

The Red Shirt Guy himself has also been busy. In response to thousands of comments about his odd voice and mannerisms, the suddenly famous gamer posted a video explanation in which he revealed that, in addition to being nervous as heck during the Q&A, he also suffers from Asperger's Syndrome.

"That's partially why my voice sounded so robotic," he says. "Fortunately, I have a mild to minor case, so it's not as bad as some might be."

Passionate, fearless, smart. Forget the fact checking -- this super fan just got one of his own.

Have we finally learned the true identity of Big Green?!?!

So, how about a remake of Oregon Trail, except with zombies? It's called Organ Trail, and it's exactly what it sounds like. You and four other people have to make your way cross-country in an armored vehicle, rationing your supplies and making tough decisions and avoiding the zombie hordes. I haven't even started the game proper yet, but seeing a cheesy ASCII rendition of the Merchant from Resident Evil 4 convinced me that I had to share this.
