A full HD remake of FFVII would cost as much to make as a new game, and many people wouldn't want to pay the full $60 for a remake of a 15 year old game. I'd love
a remake but I completely understand why we aren't getting one.

I guarantee you a VERY high market would buy it.

Look at the Metal Gear Solid gamecube upgrade. It still goes for about £40 used on ebay.

Not only that but the logic that people would never buy another FF game after an HD remake of VII was made is just dumb. People always buy FF games, especially the core fanbase. Maybe not in droves, but the audience is still there at least.

I can't imagine Doom for the SNES was anywhere near $100 US. I very much remember being told I couldn't get Royal Rumble in 1993 since Toys R Us wanted $102 for it though, and I actually remember paying over $100 after tax for No Mercy in 2001. I can't remember what this stuff cost in the states though, which kind of sucks because that's usually where we got games at the time.

Of note, the Sega Saturn launched for $399 US. It is listed in another Consumers catalogue as being $520 Canadian.

I don't know if I ever saw an SNES game go for $100 but there were several that went for 80-90, though most were less.

I bought Actraiser 2 at Toys R Us for $64.99 when it came out. If you think games are expensive now, that was a complete ripoff.

I remember asking for Joe & Mac for the SNES one Christmas. I got Chuck Rock instead. I still remember overhearing my grandmother talking to my mom about the $60 price tag.

For Chuck Rock.

I seem to remember Donkey Kong Country going for a lot ($80+). That had to be a shit ton circa 1993. I want to say Illusion of Gaia was close to $100 at launch too.

Did anyone ever check out the Funcoland price guides? I found the $200+ price of DBGT: Final Bout amusing in the late 90s / early 00s.

Here's part of one!

So I just beat Chrono Trigger last night; first time I played the game.

Holy shit, that battle with Lavos was epic. I've been really pissed at RPG's before for having the last battle be crap (like FF VII) but Lavos was both a long-ass battle, and it was pretty tricky. Fucking awesome.

Parents bought me Mortal Kombat 2 on release date for $80 after tax. I remember that clearly.

Funcoland was always awesome. Every my sister and I would get money saved up we'd always order random used stuff out of their catalogs.

I remember a Funcoland clerk talking to some kids about Eternal Champions CD. Basically he was all, "check out these cool fatalities", showed off some cool stuff, then told the kids "Aaaand I won't be selling that to you because you're under 17".

Final Fantasy 7 demo for $14.99? Damn. About 10 years ago, I remember finding a site that was full of nothing but customer complaints about Funcoland. Kind of like the actsofgord.com site.

I don't remember SNES-era game prices so well; only one that comes to mind was paying $40 for A Link to the Past used at a flea market. Nor do I recall NES prices, other than my saving $100, and my brother $60 to buy the Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt bundle.

In the late-'90s, I was working at a game store, and I was still a Nintendo guy, so I remember N64 prices well enough. Ocarina of Time was $79.99, while most other first-party titles were $69.99. We had a ton of copies of Yoshi's Story that went on the wall, and then were packed into a locked shelf every night, so I remember those. I'm pretty sure WWF WrestleMania 2000 was $99.99, and then No Mercy dipped to $89.99.

I also remember one of my first trades at EB Games was getting $50 for GoldenEye towards Perfect Dark.

Link to the Past is $12-$15 used these days

I remember my mom paying $80 for Earthbound when it was new. Now that's a steal.

The only good thing about Funco Land was that they actually would give a decent trade-in amount for your games, but they kept that shit secret. The trade sheet was under plastic and they wouldn't give out copies. Even near the end they wouldn't give out copies of the for sale sheet. They claimed because prices were always changing. But it was because video game dealers would grab up the sheet and undercut...guilty.

that Funco sheet has Flintstones Surprise ay Dinosaur Peek for $3.99. Game goes for hundreds

According to the stats in Sleeping Dogs I've got just over 3 hours of playtime, and I've only done 2 actual missions. Maybe I should stop dicking around and actually do something?

It's pretty good. Nothing mind blowing but it is one of those games that you put a little time into and then later when you're doing something else you want to go back and play a little more.

I just finished Binary Domain today, which I really enjoyed. It's too bad it went under the radar. It makes me want to check out the Yakuza games now. Is anyone a fan of them? If so, should I go for Yakuza 4 or Dead Souls?

neither. Yakuza 3. Not that there's anything wrong with Yakuza 4, it would probably just be smarter to start with the first PS3 game.

...fuck Dead Souls though. Don't even touch that.

Start with 3 or Dead Souls. Dead Souls is a fun diversion and is probably one of the best zombie apocalypse games I've ever played.. and I've pretty much played them all. Not sure what bug is up fazzle's ass about this game. The camera was a little wonky but the game itself was fun as hell.

If you want the "serious" Yakuza story then definitely start with 3 and then move on to 4. Be warned, though, 3 doesn't have any of the mini-games or traditional "crazy Japanese shit" in it as Sega had it stripped out because they felt Americans would be too confused by it. 4 brings it all back, though.

You could also wait a bit as I believe 1 & 2 are getting the "HD collection" treatment in the fall overseas so we'll probably get them the following Spring. Or maybe sooner since there'd be no extra localisation that would need to be done.

The bug up my ass is just that it's NOT a Yakuza game. Yakuza shouldn't be a shoot em up.

Maybe if it didn't have the Yakuza name on it I'd feel differently about it.

Edit: Also, Yakuza 3 did have a bunch of the mini-games in it, I think, just not the hostess bars. It still had all the gambling dens(with that one mahjong game I had no freakin idea how to play but still somehow kept winning in), the golf minigame, karaoke, darts and...I'm sure other stuff that I'm forgetting.
