I agree.

I've only done like 3 or 4 actual missions. I've just been bounty hunting and skinning animals and building up my ammo and supplies. You can pretty much do what you want.. when you want.

Just a ton of fun to play.

I fear this will turn out to be one of those games where you can never finish it. Looking at the map, its fucking HUUUUUUUUGE.

Thank god for the wilderness camp tho, at least it means i wont have to buy a place in every town so i can save.

Multi-player is fun but my friend and I can't seem to talk to each other.

I played the shit out of it yesterday and I've made it through the first part (Fort Mercer). Now I'm just cleaning up the side missions and building up some cash before I move on. Going to clean out all the bandit hideouts since that'll help unlock weapons and outfits. Huge amount of shit to do. Can't quite get the hang of horseshoes, but I managed to win the one game I needed for an outfit. Gambling's OK, although I'm not really good at it. Really though I'm just enjoying galloping around, although I wish they'd give a little more warning on some of the side missions. I'm flying down a horse trail and a blue dot pops up right in front of me on the radar. I run straight into a robbery and I get blasted before I even knew what was happening. Other than that, a lot of fun.

Anyone have some tips for making quick cash? It seems the missions themselves don't pay out that much, (unless it is because I am only 3-4 missions in?).

Just go out into the desert and kill and skin as many animals as you can, then go sell everything at a general store. Wolves are the best target, because they come at you in bunches, you take their fur, meat and heart and all 3 are valuable. Armadillos, Bucks and Cougars pay off pretty well also. Oh, and shoot down Eagles and Hawks and take their feathers.

Definitely loot every person you kill, most times you'll get around $5 or so, not much but it adds up.

Gambling can be pretty fun and you can make some easy cash that way. Liars Dice is the easiest and you take $40 each time you win. Poker can have the biggest payoff, but I'd advise you to only play it if you have the outfit which allows you to cheat, it makes things a lot easier. You really only need to cheat once to get you through an entire round at the table, and don't try and do it when there's only one or two other people at the table or you'll get caught, challenged to a duel, and you lose all your chips. Don't waste your time with Horseshoes or Five Finger Fillet, because you can only bet up to $10.

Yeah, I've been playing the shit out of this game since Tuesday. If heaven was a video game this would be it.

if you keep playing FFF, you can bet up to $100 for a single round. At 5, 10, 25 and then $100 for a single session (assuming there's a full group gathered around), you can make $140 in 3-5 minutes, especially since only the last part of the $100 requires much skill or focus.

So I've finally made it to Mexico. And I'm going to post this because I don't think it's really a spoiler...

But I had one of the greatest gaming moments of my life after getting to Mexico and riding to my destination. It's a long ride and the game kicks in a song. An actual song, not a music without lyrics score, and I took that ride with the sun setting in the distance on a beautiful landscape with this awesome song playing...

And it was fucking epic.

Awesome, awesome, just plain awesome! Just the random stuff you encounter riding around is worth it. I came to a camp, guy called me over, when I went over he started shooting at me so I killed him. After he was dead a woman started calling for me to help her, she was tied up by his tent and all over the ground were body parts and bones, and more in the pot over the fireplace cooking. Cannibals ftw, heh

I love the woman that calls you over and when you get there, her friends pop out and try and rob you. A quick tap of dead eye, five shots and five kills.

There's an achievement for putting a hogtied woman on the train tracks and watching her get run over. It is of course called "Dastardly". It was very amusing.

It's much easier to just hogtie a female thief and not have to worry about your bounty going up.

Still is great though.

But can you make your character grow a curlah mustache?

EDIT: Come to think of it, though, wasn't that actually Snidely Whiplash's thing?

I guess Waters could sort this out.

Just a couple hours in. I'm digging it so far. The controls are taking a little getting used to and I keep forgetting about dead eye. I'm trying to keep my honor high, but after a save I usually go on a killing spree/

Cougars may, fucking cougars. Knocked me down a hill and killed me while I was rolling. Those fuckers mean business and they are so hard to spot.

Nothing better than speeding through the wilderness on my way to town only to hear cries for help from some guy. Turned back to see what was up and the bastard ripped me off my horse and stole it. Good times!

I lost honor after killing the man that tried to jack my horse...WTF?!

Loving the game so far, but I'm having a hard time quitting it. I'll think "ok, I'm gonna save my game and stop." Then on the way to town I either catch a stranger mission or some other side quest that I can't pass up.

The best part so far was being chased and barely making it in front of the train while the guy behind me gets whacked.

Got to the "third island" Blackwater around 11 tonight. Figured I would save up and head to bed. But there were new stranger missions! And a few duels! And a new shop! And then I looked at the clock and it was 1:40 in the morning! Holy fuck!

The last couple missions in Mexico were fucking grand. This game kicks so much ass. I still have like 15 missions to go and a bunch of Ambient Challenges. I really want to 100% this game. There's no pigeons like in GTA4 to hold me back.

UGH! Apparently my auto save was off and my regular save didn't take. Just had to re-do 3 missions. I haven't really figured out how to cheat at cards or duel. They kinda throw you in there with a vague explaination

When you duel, draw when it tells you, bring your sight up to the chest/head and hit the RB (on xbox) when the x is white and on your opponent. That is a kill shot. Once you hit it 5 or 6 times your meter should be full and you will kill him.

I read this post shortly after seeing a story on my local news about a social networking site started locally launching for "cougars" to meet younger men which made this post entertaining in a completely different way.

It pays off in fame to wait as long as possible to draw, and to shoot the gun out of the guys hand rather than kill him. Wait til he draws first and mark his hand when the target is white.

I'm at about 75% complete right now. Haven't done any of the Blackwater missions yet because I'm trying to get the Legend of the West outfit first. I finished the Treasure and Scavenger challenges. Had to get help online a few times for the treasure hunt. I'm at rank 8 hunter which is kill a bear with your knife. Got straight up destroyed a couple times, then another time I was chasing the bear and almost had him and then a fucking wolf attacked me out of nowhere giving the bear time to recover and maul me.

I'm really stuck on rank 10 sharpshooter, where you have to disarm 6 guys without reloading your gun. I've tried at gang hideouts and going after bounties with both the Mauser Pistol and the Evans Repeater, but the problem is you have to use dead eye boosts and medicine to get through them, and when you pause sometimes you end up holstering your weapon which automatically reloads it. I got to 4 guys and then got hit with an involuntary reload. I'm really frustrated with this one.

Yeah, that was more of a Snidely Whiplash thing. Dastardly was too busy cheating to win a race or trying to catch a carrier pigeon to tie women to train tracks.

The Hooded Claw, on the other hand, would have done that as a first attempt I think.

So is there an online mode that you are playing with online folks, that actually helps you complete storyline missions? Or is the online modes completely separate from storyline mode?

I think it's separate. There's a slip in my case that says a co-op mode DLC is coming soon.

I finished the story mode a bit ago. What an outstanding game.

And all told I am at 89.4% now, just have small things left.
