Ive started to lean towards doing some storytelling. I like that you can call your horse (even if you shot it for some quite skin/meat) anywhere on the map.

You have to do bounties, do nightwatch, complete stranger tasks, win games or find scraps. You unlock one when you get one of those things done for an outfit.

For example to get the Bollard Twins one if you complete nightwatch at MacFarlane Ranch, it will pop up in your outfit menu.

Do you have to do all of Bonnie MacFarland's missions for the story or does she become merely a side question task once you unlock other people such as the sheriff and the grave digger guy etc etc?

I finished all the challenges and unlocked the Legend of the West outfit. It looks awesome and I'm glad I waited to do the Blackwater part of the story.

My strategy for sharpshooter rank 10 was the wrong way to go about it. I ended up trying it by shooting at civilians in one of the small Mexican towns and did it easily because there'd only be one or two attackers at a time and I could stay in target mode without taking much damage. Killing the bear was luck more than anything, I caught one about ten feet away from me before he saw me, blasted him in the hind legs with my double barrel shotgun, he tried to run away and I just chased him for about 100 yards, swiping at him with my knife every time I got close enough. Luckily I was unmolested by other bears or wolves while this was going down. The last 3 hunting challenges are all relatively easy compared to killing cougars and bears with your knife.

Pretty sure I've done all the stranger missions. I've got a bunch of bounties left and some other little things like horsebreaking jobs or winning at FFF (which I suck at) but I think I'm going to go ahead and finish the story now.

I don't know what you mean. You still shoot and stuff from your vehicle (horse) and shoot/stab/fight people on foot. I think the controls are pretty good.

Only 1 thing left for Bandito and Rebel outfit. I got the Army one. Need to get the US Marshal, Legend of the West and Bureau uniform.

Other then that, just 2-3 left in Ambient Challenges and 12 bounties to go. At 91.4%.

Game looks awesome. But does it control and feel like a Grand Theft Auto game? Because if so, I'll pass.

The control scheme is based on GTA IV, yes, but seems much more intuitive here. As for "feeling" like a GTA game, I'd say only in the typical, sandbox-style sense.

Ah, I hated the GTA IV controls. I really want to try this game out, so I'll rent it whenever it's available, and then buy it if I like it.

I hated GTA IV as well, but I'm having fun with this. Controlling and shooting from the horse feels easier than from a car, that's for sure.

So I just got to Mexico, and lemme tell you, if all the missions are like the first couple in the Mexico region, then the entire first half of the game was merely like a tutorial for what's in store from here on out.

Riding into Mexico is an experience itself. That song coupled with the visuals as you come up over hills looking at the scenery was absolutely amazing.

It was one of my favorite gaming moments I've ever had.

I loved the stuff in Mexico with the Sam Elliott type character. The early missions with the Mexican army not so much, but there was a great payoff by the end.

the one thing that disappointed me was that Landon Rickets didn't show up again to help you when the war between the rebels and the army brought you back to Chuparosa. He was such a cool character, and he'd settled in that town and taken it upon himself to be a white knight for the people, so it was weird that he just disappeared

I think I fell in the same mine shaft. Was it when you were trying to do one of the side missions with the purple markers?

Yep. The Funny Man or whatever his name is. Sometimes the indicators on the screen are a little misleading.

I am really enjoying this game so far. The treasure hunting alone is pretty fun.

Can you not have more than one horse? I tied up two near my shack but came back a little later and only one was there. I think I lost the better one in this instance, too. :(

He's in the mine.

Sounds like someone else had an encounter with those horse eating, knocking you down the hill and eating you fucks.

Worse animal encounter yet: 4 wolves and 2 cougars...AT THE SAME FUCKING TIME!

I had the same horse FOREVER. The damn thing pops up out of nowhere and kills it. Pissed me off.

I got the 4 wolve 2 cougar encounter too. ew. EW.

My funniest one is sprinting full speed only to collapse because a rattle snake bit me on the leg. I found it hilarious.

Luckily I've only run into one cougar - it killed me of course.

Has anyone gotten into multi player yet? Free Roam is okay.. but I really enjoy the competitive games like Standoff and whatever the one is where you capture the other teams bag/flag.

I had that happen in Torquemada and threw dynamite at it as revenge.

I have gotten to the point if I even hear a cat noise, I make my horse ride as fast as possible away from the area and hope it doesn't catch me.
Killing one of them is very satisfying though. Since I just kept shooting it in the dead face for 10 minutes cursing at the corpse before skinning it. But they are so damn quick, half the time by the time you spot them they are already killing your horse and aiming for you next.

And rattlesnakes, man I kill those fuckers on accident so much when my horse runs them over.

I did the hunting challenge where you have to kill 2 cougars with a knife. I had one in my sights and 2 idiots came riding by, shot and killed the cougar. I gunned both of them down and the witness that saw me do it. Fuckers.

The bears in the game are intimidating. Holy shit. They scare me everytime I stumble upon one. I killed the 2 cougars before I did the sharpshooter challenge where you have to kill 3 bears with 1 shot each. I did that challenge with the Buffalo rifle. 1 shot to his stupid bear face.

I want to play this game in the worst way. I check this thread constantly but I still have Darksiders and Borderlands to get through beore I get to this. Not playing games as much as I'm training for a half marathon.

Any idea on approximate numbers of playable hours in this game? Similar to a Grand Theft Auto?

I'm at almost 48 played hours and only around 96% complete. It's pretty much like GTA. I finished all the missions on tuesday and have been wrapping up secondary things since then. Nothing like just getting on your horse and riding halfway across the map just to kill a bear.
