Fans can extend their LEGO Rock Band experience on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 with downloadable content that can be purchased through the LEGO Rock Band store. Players will have access to all of the songs in the Rock Band Music Store that have been identified to be suitable for all ages. Those cleared songs are the only tracks that will appear within the LEGO Rock Band store for purchase. The LEGO Rock Band store will continually highlight any new family-friendly tunes that can be played across the Rock Band platform as they are released for Rock Band.

Disc export will rely on the technology pioneered by Harmonix to export tracks from the original Rock Band disc to the music library of Rock Band 2. Owners of LEGO Rock Band on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will be able to enter a unique code from an insert in their game manual into a dedicated website. The website will provide instructions allowing owners to unlock the export functionality of LEGO Rock Band. At that point, players will be able to export tracks from LEGO Rock Band to their hard drives for play in all game modes of the Rock Band Music Platform for a nominal export fee of $9.99 (800 Microsoft Points). An internet connection is required to perform this disc export.

A code and a fee is a bit of a bummer, though not entirely out of line, I guess.

Do you what none of those tracks say to me? Lego. Not one of them seems to be anything to do with Lego.

It's not as even if they're all kiddie tracks either.

Yeah, I was figuring Lego Rock band would have kiddie stuff and then songs that could get seen as Lego themed, something like "We Built This City". Still a better track list than I anticipated IMO. I always like Rock Band games better than Guitar Hero games too, although the uber cheesy track list of Band Hero still has me stoked.

Hey aB, any chance you can bring the updates to us again? I know it's cheeky to ask and I can look myself, but you do such a good job!

(and I finally, as I do with games, got to the party late and got Rock Band 1 today.)

All DLC for RB games plays in both RB2 and RB1. About half the songs will also work in Lego:RB due to a family friendly content filter. Nothing outside of Beatles DLC works in the Beatles:RB game.

Thanks for the info Perf.

I've always heard about how great the DLC was compared to GH but I didn't realise it was THIS vast.

This is great.

This thread got me wanting to play RB 2 regularly again (I haven't in a few months), so I bought a bunch of songs today. I was blown away at how big the music store has gotten. That's why I love Harmonix's approach: I spent about $15 on songs I KNEW I was going to like and downloaded them right to my HDD instead of going to the store and spending $50 on a disc of 50 or so songs, of which about 20-25 I'll play once and never play agan.

Why do Rock Band get this so right yet GH get it so wrong?

Do Harmonix know something GH doesn't? Or have RB cornered the market so GH can't have certain things?

From what I understand Guitar Hero games sell a shit ton of copies...so their model isn't working out too bad.

On the flip side Rock Band kills them in song downloads. I prefer the Rock Band system since between Rock Band/Rock Band 2/Lego Rock Band/The AC/DC live Rock Band and music downloads I have 473 songs that I can play when I pop in my Rock Band 2 disc.

And with so many of those being downloads...that's a majority of songs that I really like.

They've made a killing off of me since I love the idea of being able to pop that one disc in and play everything.

Yeah, but if you broke it down I'd bet Harmonix is making more money (or at least is staying even) because they don't have to worry as much about pressing discs, shipping, marketing and those sorts of issues producing physical discs has. They probably only have to worry about rights fees, royalties and server costs.

That Green Day pack will be bought, but why couldn't they simply have released 21st Century Breakdown as a full album?

For some reason I find that any of the Blondie songs are really fun to play.

I heard that Lego Rock Band, which I had been planning to pick up, lacks online play. Is this true?

Yes, but you can export entire playlist into RB2(only on PS3 or 360). Will show up in regular DLC list.

Howdy. Guess it's been a little while. Today, the Rock Band Network Store is launching in US and Canada (not quite working in Canada yet, though). There's 100+ songs available day one, with at least a few more in the next few days. Here's a list of what's up today:

http://www.rockband.com/zine/rbn-tracks-day-one

I'll be getting "Even Rats" by The Slip for sure. One of my favourite plastic rock tunes ever, from the first Guitar Hero. "Push Push (Lady Lightning)" by Bang Camaro from GHII is another likely buy, especially since it's only 80MSP. It's officially available tomorrow, but apparently you can download it now.

Here's a bigger list of what should be coming down the pipe:
