AJ Styles? The Miz? Ziggler feels like a letdown name wise.

I'd love Styles and he'd make sense for Nashville.
Styles would be great, especially since they had a history in TNA and never got to have a match together one on one.

Part of me even wonders if its Jarrett, considering he likely was a major conduit for Starrcast and WWE to work together somewhat subtly on this show.

As the board's biggest Jeff Jarrett proponent, I'd have to say he's the worst non Hulk Hogan suggestion (@BruiserBrody huffing). I just don't see any scenario where a 2022 Double J Vs Ric Flair match ends up being legitimately enjoyable.

Yeah, I'm not feeling that match either but it wouldn't shock me....Jarrett I believe even teased a return to the ring in that press conference they did.

I'm sure Jeff will be on the card somewhere but in some last minute legends multi man schmozz. I think (or at least HOPE) he's self aware enough to realize that would erase most of the goodwill he's built the last few years.

I can’t honestly see any opponent being able to carry him to a match that is watchable in any scenario. The guy is 73, he has a litany of pre-existing health issues, and today it was reported he has a foot injury. Which is what happens I assume, when you are 73 and are training to be in a professional wrestling match just a few years after almost dying.

A 73-year-old man trying to wrestle, even if he led a healthy life and is in good shape for his age, is a colossally stupid idea to begin with. And Flair has not exactly lived a healthy life and it’s catching up to him in a big way. I don’t see any possible way this isn’t going to turn out as a massive fiasco. And hey, I’m there for that. But I still can’t think of one single person they could name to work with him which would not result in something that ends up being a cringeworthy fiasco.

Lou Thesz was 74 when he had his last match and it wasn't too bad, but it wasn't good. I would assume he lived a healthier life than Flair, plus his wrestling style fit into his limitations at that age. From what I've seen of his training and how he talks, Flair expects to go out and have a match more in line with his 2005-era work.

It's going to be rough.

Besides Mae Young, has anyone else wrestled after the 80 mark? Looks like Mil Mascaras and Dory Funk were both in their late 70's when they last wrestled. I can think of a few other 70+ luchadors, too.

I was thinking maybe Canek since he seems to have been around forever, but he just turned 70 last month!

We covered this a few weeks ago. Ox Baker's "match" for his 80th birthday is on youtube. I believe the 2 ahead of him are Killer Kowalski and Dom Denucci if my feeble memory serves.

The fact that Ox was immobile in 1985 makes the match 30 years later or whatever even crazier. Love Ox' s promos (He managed in 1989/90 AWA and actually jumped to WCW for a hot minute with the Nightstalker (AKA Adam Bomb)

Gypsy Joe has got to be up there, right?

I'm not saying the chances of this Flair retirement match being watchable are high. Maybe 25% at absolute best but if this match is good, you can say I told you so. And if it's not, you can say "Frig off, you idiot"!

Gypsy Joe made it to 76. Great Kojika wrestled this year after turning 80. Jimmy Valiant worked a match two months ago and he turns 80 next month.

I think you can make a Flair match watchable with bells and whistles. But I get the feeling Flair wants to wrestle a Ric Flair match.

Honestly the most ideal and safest opponent to carry him probably would be Jay Lethal given he was the one training with him, but if it's a WWE guy, that's out of the question I guess?

I doubt WWE's going to risk someone involved in a major storyline but that doesn't rule out anyone really since I don't think anyone currently scheduled for SummerSlam is an obvious Flair opponent. I'm guessing Seth Rollins-Riddle will get booked for SS though but I doubt anyone wants Seth Rollins to work an oldster again after he nearly crippled Sting.

Another name that I wished it would have been but it won't be is Sting. I would have been ok with one more time through the motions with those two...especially since the match theoretically would be easier to get thru than against some random dude Flair isn't familiar with. But the superplex and such would prob have to go!

- Magnum talking about wrestlers not being able to keep their families together is funny since his MO was to try and bone the other guys women.
lmao wtf, a lot of women wanted to sleep with this guy and he purposely picked spouses of people he worked with? what a scumbag.
