Yup - that was everything free for the first year of the "Instant Game Collection" feature. I downloaded a good chunk of those. Some only just to "have" if I ever want to play them down the road. Good thing I have a 750gb HDD in my PS3..

I only have 250gb. Damn!

For PS Plus games, you can "buy" them without downloading them right then. I usually just buy everything that goes up whether I want it or not just in case. I just downloaded and installed the Ratchet and Clank game the other day.

That video tells me it wants you to have a living room with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IN IT that no real person actually has, just like the Kinect.

That video tells me that if I don't want to be on camera all the fucking time I should just quit wanting to play video games like the cool kids, just like the Kinect.

I also am highly doubting any fucking chance that what I'm seeing is "Actual PS4 footage", especially because it appears that douchebag with a "Playroom" has a girlfriend and isn't in a blacked out basement somewhere that would make the use of that kind of technology even remotely plausible.

Not to mention, that game was something out of my nightmares.

It means actual gameplay footage, Rando. I'm assuming you see yourself onscreen the entire time.

Okay, fine. So I'll be on screen (mirrored) and everything that is a hologram in front of me will also be on the screen (mirrored), but there is still no freaking way that anything that is on the screen will look anywhere near "high quality" when it's spit out of a cheap projector. Even low-end projectors are over 200 bucks, and I doubt they would give any kind of reasonable quality that could not only be something you could use in a room with even the faintest of external light sources but also be able to be played without having to sit directly in front of it and for a price that doesn't make people look at this thing as a worse gimmick than anything Nintendo ever did with the Wii or otherwise.

I can play a game on my TV without sitting right facing my screen, so is this 3-D projection going to look as awesome to someone sitting at a 45 degree angle to the television? Is the silly camera even going to pick up that they are there in the first place?

This whole thing just screams "Virtual Boy In Glorious Technicolor". While Microsoft is trying, somewhat against the will of the public, to make the Kinect absolutely mandatory, this similar device looks more like Microsoft has a WiiMote so now Sony needs a Move.

Uh.....there is no projection. What you see on your screen is going to be you in your living room, and then on the screen they're going to add gameplay elements into an environment that has been captured by the camera. You'll be looking at your screen and awkwardly gesturing in the area you think those things are supposed to be at.

It's like the AR games on a 3DS, if you have one of those.

Okay, so... is it still a mirrored image? am I going to be seeing the backs of a lot of heads (while not uncommon in gaming, weird when they would in theory be looking right at me)?

None of this sounds like a good idea. I'll stand by that point.

It's just another AR game on a console basically made to showcase the camera's functionality, on its own and with the controller.

It looks just like that Kinect Party game. I'm not sure what Rando's freaking out about.

I apologize that my original idea of what was going on was flawed, but it's still a dumb camera stuck onto a console. At least it appears in this case that the Playroom will work more like the 360's Kinect in that it'll be something you don't have to have "on" all the time, but I guess my big issue with it (and even with the Kinect) is that at least Microsoft wants it to exist as more than just some goofy peripheral but hasn't given enough good reasons for the general public to view it as such. Maybe in a few years I will look at it differently, but then again in a few years the idea of watching TV the way Microsoft is screaming about now might be a better option than the way we've been doing it in the "cable box/DVR" era so far. I'm just not sure.

The funny part about this game is that apparently it comes preinstalled on the PS4, but the console does not come with the camera.

Outside of that, I really see the only use for the camera (for me anyway) is the little video inset chats you can have while gaming or recording gameplay.

If you go back to the original PS4 announcement they said that the camera was shipping with every console. Apparently they dropped it very late in the game primarily because they wanted to undercut Microsoft on price. So having the game come preinstalled may be a leftover from when they were planning on shipping cameras with every system.

I hate these cameras. Rando is right...if there was even one piece of software that made them worthwhile I'd soften my stance. Microsoft packed in the kinect 2 because they want companies to know that every player has one so they don't have to worry about adoption rate where they won't waste their time and money on a product that only a certain percentage of gamers can even buy. A side effect of Sony dropping their camera packed in is that now third parties will do that anyway. They would have been far more inclined to create the piece of software that these cameras need if hey knew every next gen player had one.

The funny part I read was that the new ps4 controller still has all move technology to enhance gameplay...and it's all relegated to worthless unless you buy the camera. The camera that never begets good games because companies would waste money developing it for a niche market now that it isn't packed in. It's a vicious circle.

I have no problem with the camera for it's technical uses (like the videochat or filming an inset of yourself if you're doing a "let's play" series or streaming live gameplay).. but I have zero interest in it for games. My PSEye has only been used once.. same goes for the Move controller.

The only game that I thought was really enjoyable was the Gunstringer game. Other than that nothing ever topped the stupid hit balls back at blocks that came with it lol. It's actually alright for exercise games...but you need a ton of room for that. Meaning any workout was thwarted by the first step: Move every piece of furniture you own.

That was one of my main issues with the Move thing and the PSEye.. the camera itself isn't really something you can stick on the top of your TV like a Wii sensor bar.. so it was always in some random spot.. and add to that that my living room is a condo living room so it isn't that big.. and it just wasn't worth the hassle to even bother with anything beyond the Sports Champions pack-in that came with the console.

*That actually makes me wonder if they try to market that stuff to Japanese gamers the same way. Especially given the usual size of their living quarters.

I think I'd be more inclined to try the new camera if they come out with some really cool rail-shooters (I'm a bit of a mark for those) but outside of that I don't really see myself picking one up.

I actually have a living room big enough for all these camera devices to work, and I just totally don't care. Using it to record gaming sessions is a cool feature, I guess, but you can do that with webcams just as easily and without much of a learning curve to make a laptop or whatever do it for you. Same goes with video chatting. I can do that faster on my computer or even my phone than I'd be willing to buy another peripheral to let me do it with my TV. My phone probably has a better picture than my TV, anyway.

The point of that is that everything to do it is built into the PS4's OS. There's no need for capture cards, laptops, etc. The only extra piece you'd need is the camera. ;)

I've got Battlefield 4 and COD Ghosts on pre-order. I expect to cancel Ghosts, though. Watch Dogs and Arkham Origins are two that I'm not sure about which console I want them on.. I know they are technically current gen games, so I might just get them on PS3. Spring 2014 seems like the point when I'll be buying more games for PS4, though. Really hyped for TESO and Destiny.

I just pre ordered Ghosts, dont know if i will follow through with it tho as those games really wear thin eventually. I suppose i will decide on what the price difference between PS3 and PS4 games will be as to what format i get some of the current gen cross over games.

The shooter games I usually play for social reasons.. it's annoying, though, as I have one group who ONLY plays COD and one group who ONLY plays Battlefield. I tend to lean toward Battlefield, myself, as I find it's much more strategic than the repetitious run and gun, back and forth, COD games. Like the fact that I can actually stealth guys in Battlefield is a huge plus to me. The vehicles are really fun, too. :)

UK game store has revealed that EA games for the PS4 will retail at £54.99 which is £15 more than a new release PS3 game. Yes, its put me off quite a bit....

I preordered my PS4. Someone sell me on a game.

Launch, or just overall? Well, The Order:1866's CGI trailer looks pretty cool. Killzone looks like a nice shooter. Deep Down looks awesome, assuming the gameplay looks anything like the videos so far. Really until they come out with some gameplay footage, it's mostly an unknown.
