With nearly 95% of the vote (approximately 94.7% in favor of the PS4) Amazon has decided to end the user poll between the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 early. Back on June 13th the marketplace giant ran a Facebook poll to see which one consumers were more interested in between Microsoft and Sony's consoles and it appears that gamers have spoken quite loudly with their Facebook voting.
For now, the final numbers read 38984 votes in favor of the PlayStation 4 with only 2162 votes in favor of the Xbox One. Does anyone know how many employees work at Microsoft?
Originally, the poll was supposed to run for a week and end on June 20th, giving gamers plenty of time to cast a vote and comment in favor of the console they were most looking forward to. Unfortunately, Amazon cut the poll short after there was a massive and clearly lopsided showing of favoritism for one product over the other. This could also be an easy indicator for companies to use as a gauge for the potential purchasing habits of gamers and casual consumers alike for this fall.
Thinking about this logically, there's no real reason as to why Amazon would have wanted to end the poll early given all the free publicity and traffic they were receiving from the unbiased and very public escapade. That is, unless things were cut short, potentially, under coercion from upper management?
In reality, the poll was definitely generating a lot of media buzz, especially from gaming outlets who covered the lopsided-as-a-poorly-done-boob-job poll, with an obvious reporting slant given in favor of Sony's upcoming PlayStation 4. It's not unlikely that the whole event could have incurred the intervention of reputation management agents, perhaps?
Personally, I really wanted to see what the voting habits were going to be like at the end of the official session between both consoles, but I guess we'll have to settle for what they ended up with.
Maybe the good folks at Forbes or Polygon can ping Amazon and find out what really happened? If I were a betting man I'd say a very nonsensical and boilerplate PR response is what we'll all end up with. Such is the fate of these kind of events during the propaganda-fueled warfare of corporate giants.

Soo, probably a good idea to not update to 4.45 just to be safe. My 250GB Slim seems to be alright, but, yeah. If you have PS+, it will automatically download the update, but I feel like it won't automatically apply it; I could be wrong. Probably best to disable updates for now. Or just unplug the thing.

Unfortunately, I think it's a mandatory update, meaning you can't connect to PSN without it. Or it's possible they pulled it. Not entirely sure.

Anyone played Far Cry Blood Dragon? My friend told me I'd really like it since I love 80's style action movies.
I don't think I'll need a PS4 for a long time. I have a long list of games to catch up on that I've downloaded or borrowed.

This morning Sony put up this video showing off the PlayStation 4's interface, and if you can tune out the fake gamers and their overreactions, it offers a few interesting tidbits of what life will be like with it.
The big deal would seem to be the option to download a game's multiplayer or its singleplayer component first. The example shown is for Killzone: Shadow Fall, so we could assume Sony titles will take advantage of this feature, and it'll be left up to other publishers if they want to split things out.
There's a whole bunch of social networking stuff that hardcore gamers may not care for, but whatever, it's there. The share button is featured as well. It also looks like you can purchase games from a mobile web page or app and have them download to your console, in case your impulse buying habits really need that.

Like NBA Live 14 really exists and is coming out.
Sean O'Brien, executive producer on NBA Live 14, has published a missive stating that NBA Live 14 will be exclusive to next-generation consoles – no Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are planned. "The vision is a simple one: To create a great basketball game exclusively for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4," O'Brien wrote.
"The great news for me is that EA SPORTS is 100% committed to rebuilding NBA LIVE," O'Brien also said. "There is an enormous financial commitment to the development of the product on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, including the size of the team and resources required to give us every opportunity to make a great basketball game that can compete with such a solid franchise like NBA 2K."
Solid is an understatement – the NBA 2K series has enjoyed its time without competition. NBA 2K13, the latest entry, shipped 4.5 million copies this year and established a record for the franchise.
"My first priority was to focus on core gameplay. We needed to capture the essence of half-court basketball, providing 1-on-1 isolation both in the perimeter and the post, the 2-on-2 chess match that is the pick and roll, while still offering the gamer the opportunity to push the basketball in transition and have the control required to get the ball into the lane to either take the ball to the rim or find an open teammate if the defense collapses," O'Brien wrote.
"I'm also really proud of our partnership with Synergy Sports Technologies." Perhaps the most interesting part of O'Brien's post, this partnership provides EA with data the NBA uses for scouting teams and players. "I want to remove subjectivity from how we rate players and have that data provided by Synergy Sports to completely drive how the game plays. I'm really excited about being able to update our game within an hour of something happening in the NBA. We're going to be making an enormous investment into this connected experience. "
NBA Live 14 is due later this year on the Xbox One and PS4.
"We have no intention of immediately shifting from the PS3 to the PS4."
"With the 2014 launch of our cloud service in the US allowing users to play PS3 games on the PS4, some people may switch consoles from the PS3 to the PS4. But that'll be a gradual process, and to say 'we're releasing a new console, so trade in your old ones for it' would be a maker's ego talking, plain and simple."
Yoshida clarified that a PlayStation Plus account would be required for "realtime online play" but that online play or video services that weren't "realtime" would be available for non-PS Plus customers. He also added that so long as the main account on a console had a subscription, all other accounts on that console would be able to reap the benefits of PS Plus.
http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/28/cerny-ps4s-time-to-triangle-to-rival-ps1 said:Cerny cited a concept he called "time-to-triangle," which he described as the time required to code graphical systems at a level the hardware's capable of, essentially analogous to how long it takes to create the base for games that match the hardware's graphical power. According to Cerny, the PS1's time-to-triangle was one to two months, while the powerful but more complicated PS2 had a time-to-triangle of three to six months. The PS3's time-to-triangle went up to six months to a year as a result of the complex Cell processor, well documented as turning third-party developers away from prioritizing the system.
In contrast, Cerny said the PS4's time-to-triangle is just one to two months, the same amount of time as the original PlayStation's. In his role as PS4 Lead Architect, Cerny spoke with over 30 third-party developers including EA, Capcom, and Rockstar. The feedback he received was that they wanted unified memory as opposed to the PS3's split memory layout running through the Cell processor. Also, if money was to be spent, it should go towards ensuring the system has a powerful graphical processing unit - the PS4 houses a 1.84 TFlops AMD Radeon Graphics Core.
