Watched B:the beginning on netflix and really liked it a lot. It feels like a weird mash-up of genres at times but it worked for me.

30 new anime shows/movies this year coming to netflix.

To help make these 30 shows and movies happen, Netflix has set up deals with Production I.G and Bones Inc., two established anime studios behind hits like Ghost In The Shell and My Hero Academia

Fuck yes on BONES! Also good to see them going the movie route as I've been trying to binge more stuff on top of the shows I've been keeping up with.

So this is a travel ad for Oregon and I wish it was a full length Miyazaki movie..

Children of the Whales is fantastic. It feels like some Studio Ghibli stuff at times with the art, character design, and setting.

Getting close to the end of several series so here are my thoughts

Citrus: Is what it is as far as a Yuri show. I feel like it kind of stagnated itself halfway through and hasn't quite developed the characters or plot enough to my taste (a lot like Death Parade for me).

Dagashi Kashi Season 2: Still entertaining but it's gotten away from the premise of focusing on dagashi and Hotaru's absence was very noticeable, not in a good way. In some ways the 15 minute format works better as far as pacing but I miss the lengthier time. Part of me thinks they've tried to cram an "arc" into a show that's not really formatted for that and it's detracting a bit. The fact I like the characters is the only reason I'm not going below a 7 though.

Darling In the FranXX: Enjoyable stuff and it's starting to pick up as far as marrying a potential plot arc with the characters which have been developed. This has potential to get really good ala Kill La Kill as it keeps going so my expectations are slowly rising.

A Place Further Than the Universe: A MUST WATCH. 10/10 even with 1 episode left.

The characters are amazing with a lot of depth and the slowly developed friendship (a group of girls go to the Antarctic despite not being friends initially) is incredibly realistic. The research into the trip/development is totally showcased and the episodes are filled to the brim with emotional content (good and bad). I literally just bawled at a certain scene in Episode 12 and am holding back tears as I type this. That's a credit to the deep characterization and backstory given to them that the scene is so gut wrenching in particular.

thoughts on shows this season that I haven't finished not including b or children of the whale:

SwordGAI the animation was another netflix show and I didn't think it was that great. Not a lot to say about a show with a bunch of demon weapons that possess people but none of the fights are interesting and it feels like there is too much talk.

Kokkoku was pretty good but I was let down by the lack of exploration of Stasis and the ending was deus ex Machina in the worst way.

Dragon Ball Super: the last arc was fucking fantastic and pure DB greatness.

Fate/Extra: Last Encore: I think this has been total trash tbh. It's a confusing mess, the fights are shit, the characters are uninteresting, just everything is bad. The series peaked with Unlimited Blade Works and it's been downhill since.

Grancrest Senki 10/24 eps in and I'm enjoying it so far. Some fun strategy and battle scenes.

Black Clover 25/51: I really like this a lot as a fairy tail style show. It's just gotten better and better as they've introduced more chracters and concepts.

Killing Bites: This was a weird fucking show. I didn't know it was going to be so pervy when it started but I stuck with it out of curiosity. There's nothing very interesting in it and the fights got repetitive as well.

Overlord II: Not as good as the first season and it feels like not much has happened to move the story forward so they'll have to jam a lot in the last episode. There was some good stuff and getting away from the more haremy shit was a good idea.

Hitori no Shita: The Outcast 2nd Season 11/-: A tournament arc where most of the fights only last part of the episode and feel secondary and the main protagonist either entirely skips his fights or cheats to get out of them is an...interesting idea. First season was better but this hasn't been bad and hopefully it will pick up more or have a logical ending at least.

Darling in the FranXX 11/24: This started out rough with them seeming to go a bit too over the top with the sex jokes about how the mechs are piloted (it didn't fit the rest of the shows tone like in Kill La Kill or it might have worked better) but it's evened out since and they've set up some interesting mysteries and ideas as well. Not as good as other offerings from the studio so far but I'm willing to see where it goes.

Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens 4/12: I'm behind on this because it hasn't really grabbed my attention but it's alright.

Garo: Vanishing Line: I liked this for most of it's run but it felt like it fell apart a bit in the last few episodes and the big villain wasn't very satisfying after all the buildup.

Beatless: I still have only watched one episde of this so that says a lot/

Gintama.: Shirogane no Tamashii-hen: I watched the first half of this and loved it but decided to let it finsih so I could binge it.

Finished up

citrus 6/10: Pretty disappointing overall. The characters weren't that interesting and it just couldn't sustain itself plot/romance/tension wise beyond the 7th episode.

Dagashi Kashi Season 2 7/10: Enjoyable, especially with Hotaru around. She's so clearly the glue that holds the show together and the few episodes where she was gone were pretty noticeable (even if they helped grow Kokonatsu's character a bit). I still lol'd at Hotaru/Saya immediately having more chemistry upon her return of course. Hotaru x Saya ftw.

Neon Genesis Evangelion 9/10: Finally finished this series up and it was fantastic stuff even with the weird last couple episodes. I'm not the biggest mech fan but this had me engaged completely, even if I didn't really care for the protagonist. Also props to the OP theme, "A Crying Angel's Thesis," which is worth checking out.

A Place Further Than the Universe 10/10: See earlier posts but worth checking out.

My Hero Academia S3 is starting up and I'm looking forward to finally getting around to Made in Abyss. Also got Food Wars! S4 and Tachibanakan Triangle aka Love to Lie Angle (Ecchi Yuri 5 Minute Shorts) coming down the pike soon.

Binged Made In Abyss in 2 runs (8 eps then 5 eps). Really good premise, great friendship, and gut wrenching at the end
Poor Mitty & Nanichi :(
.

9/10. Reminded me a lot of the 1st season of Attack on Titan in that it was really good and has enough depth to be great in S2 as well.

I'm sick of watching Anime that makes me cry damn it.

This was...something. The stuff with Joker were all really great actually but everything else was...bad....real bad. Thankfully there is a lot of Joker.

Been finally catching up a bit on Darling in the FRANXX (what a gut punch episode 18 was) and My Hero Academia S3 (still have 2 episodes to go to be completely caught up).

Also saw that the final season of Fairy Tail is coming in October!

Finally got around to seeing In This Corner of the World. Gorgeously animated and a gut-wrenching film covering Suzu Urano's life from 1933-1948 including a move to the small town of Kure, in Hiroshima, in 1944. 9/10

Finished up a few anime. Been kind of jumping onto stuff that I've been meaning to watch for a while in addition to stuff like My Hero Academia.

Darling In the FranXX: Good, enjoyable for the most part despite a weird, poor concept towards the end of the run.

Flip Flappers: 8/10 - This was another series much like MIA that I'd been wanting to try for a while and finally got around to it. The basic premise is that Cocona, a high school girl, is kind of just meandering through life when she comes upon Papika, a traveler who takes her to a place called Pure Illusion and quickly morphs into the two of them going on various adventures to different... worlds? looking for gems called Amorphous while competing against Cocona's real life friend Yakaka.

Food Wars Season 3 Part 2: Solid stuff overall. Wasn't big on the separation within the season (reminded me too much of Western TV hiatuses) but it was worth a wait.

I was really excited then...2020. CURSES!

Aside from Gintama and Attack on Titan 3 nothing is really popping so far this season.

I love how over the top the battles are. It's like the Japanese Iron Chef on acid.

I had no idea another season of Full Metal Panic was out, but Crunchyroll has it. FMP-Invisible Victory. Watched the first couple of episodes, and the go right to the conflict. Definitely not as light as Fumoffu, more like Second Raid.

This season is really not doing it for me overall. There's only a very few shows that are any good. There's still My Hero Academia as well as Gintama and the new Attack on Titan season (altough I'm letting that store up) only other show I'm really liking at all is Planet With which is some wacky mecha/invasion show.

Netflix had the second part of SwordGai and it was still not very good at all.

I'm also letting Attack on Titan S3 build up. I've found myself going into older shows; currently that's To LOVE-Ru, which I've heard a ton of things about as far as its relation to the romantic harem genre.

Fake Edit: Surprised that show came out as recently as 2008 (yet dismayed that 2008's already a decade ago, ugh.)

"Pop Team Epic" is the kind of animated series I've been craving, and it hits so many sweet spots for me.

Most of this season's shows have started although I think there's still a couple left to go. I'm very happy to have new Fairy Tail and A Certain Magical Index (I like the other series more and it's coming back too) finally. There aren't a ton of new shows beyond that seizing my attention though tbh. There are waaay too many fan servicy shows now it feels like. The shows I am trying though are so far:

Goblin Slayer, Radiant, and SSSS Gridman. Gridman is by Trigger which did Kill la Kill/Darling/Kiznaiver. The first episode wasn't blow away but was kind of fun. Radiant seems like it is more of a Fairy Tail/Black Clover type show aimed at the shonen audience. Goblin Slayer is definetly a Mature audience show as it has over the top violence and...other things but I'm a sucker for fantasy settings and I like the idea of a guy who's dedicated himself solely to exterminating just one type of threat.

Anime Update

Been falling behind on My Hero Season 3 as I try to catch up/start other shows and try to finish up S2 of To LOVE-Ru Darkness.

Started up the following
- Fairy Tail Final Season
- UzaMaid! Is what it is as a former special officer suddenly becomes a maid to get close to her young female charge. A skeevy concept but there is some potential comedy that could help it out.
- Bloom Into You My latest Yuri show. Looks like it could be really good as a high school student falls for a 2nd year Senpai (so typical plot). Has a bit of a soft art style that really works though and reminds me quite a bit of Strawberry Panic.
- SSSS.GRIDMAN It's from Trigger and CWM seems to dig it. Looks like it could go in a variety of directions if the characters/plot can support it.

I started "That time I got reincarnated into a slime". At first I wasn't going to try it because I thought it would be ecchi/harem bs. Instead it's a fun show where a guy gets reincarnated as (shockingly) a ball of slime in a fantasy setting. Instead of being the weakest of all monsters he has a bunch of unique powers and its really amusing so far.

I also started Zombieland Saga, which seems like it'd be right up HQ's alley. It's about a bunch of idols/weirdos from different eras that are brought back from the dead by a crazy mystery dude with the goal of forming a mega idol group to revive a single local prefectures economy. It's totally insane.

Hurry up on My Hero already HQ! the season is over! By the time you finish, season 4 will have started!

Bump as I finally knocked out My Hero Academia: Season 3 and it was a ton of fun. May be my favorite season of the bunch as it seems we're finally seeing the growth/evolution towards hero-dom arriving.

finished attack on titan season 3 which apparently is just the first half of season 3. Not as good as the other seasons, because there's less of a focus on Titans and more on what's happening inside the walls but it's still excellent and it sets up the second half of the season really well.

Apparently hollywood is (of course) making a live-action AOT movie and currently the guy who directed "IT" is directing.
