I'm tempted to go to this year's NE Metal and Hardcore Festival. Not sure, though.

Friday night's set is headlined by Anthrax with support by Exodus and Municipal Waste, but the rest of the bands are either mediocre now (Shadows Fall), bands I've never heard of (most of the openers), or bands I fucking loathe (Death Before Dishonor, HATEBREED).

Saturday's looks solid overall, but I can't think of a single band besides Ensiferum I'd be interested in seeing. The majority of the rest looks like a bunch of bands I just don't care for. I don't hate them, I don't love them, but they're just there to me. Opeth, Katatonia, Dillinger Escape Plan, Terror, Fit For An Autopsy...in fact, I think the only bands I really cannot 100% fucking stand are Born of Osiris and Within Ruins.

Sunday is another day with one or two bands I'd be really interested in, headlined by Suicidal Tendencies and also featuring DRI and Sick of it All, but the rest (Miss May I, Job For A Cowboy, and all of the lesser-known fashioncore openers) are absolute shyte.

Yeah, another year of NEMHF that I'll be skipping. Bring on Summer Slaughter and NE Deathfest this summer!

I've never cared for anything they've done musically, but I think they may have opened for another band I was seeing at some point.

DEP played on the first Gigantor festival. They were awful live. They played early in the day and there were like a dozen people in the crowd and none of them payed attention to the band.

That's the first Ghost track I've ever heard, and I'm getting a Therion vibe from them, which is a good thing. This sounds like something I could get into.

Dave Lombardo's out of Slayer. Again. This time it's because he brought up that management is making 90% of the income from their world tour and he wanted a bigger cut for the four of them, so now he's gone. Again.

Hey, at least this time it's not because of a coke problem.

Also, the Summer Slaughter lineup has been released, and it's lame.

I guess he can fall back on Fantomas or Grip Inc.

I like Dillinger Escape Plan and Animals as Leaders, but that's about is as far as the lineup is concerned.

Ghost's album has been delayed a week in the US because four different disc manufacturers refused to print their artwork. Only a problem in the US of course. So we'll now be getting alternate artwork on the disc itself.

That's the "banned" version. I feel like I've seen much worse, but for whatever reason they ran into a ton of trouble with that one.

Oh, that's got to be some manufactured controversy. I have a Lair of the Minotaur cd with a ton of tits and decapitated fantasy beasts and shit in the liner notes

Black Breath is fucking badass. One of the best newer bands in years. "Razor to Oblivion" will kick your fucking teeth in. Four track EP, in its entirety here:

I'm digging it, especially the crust influence. Very Swedish guitar tone, too. I'm digging how the thrash revival has basically led to a classic death revival.

I like Black Breath because most new metal bands I've listened to always seem to have a melodic influence so its nice to have a band that's just straight up heavy and brutal.

I'm with you on this. It's either you find a band that's straight-up brutal (like Abnormality) or they incorporate too much melody. Some bands walk that line and make it work (Arkaik and, IMO, the Black Dahlia Murder spring to mind immediately), but other bands just seem to throw melody in for no reason (or random breakdowns...which is why I fucking hate deathcore).

Also...

The new Amorphis album is kind of a letdown. They're just repeating themselves now.

The new Rotting Christ album is pretty good though

I'll still give Amorphis a shot. I've always enjoyed their stuff.
