Speaking of Raek I checked "House of Flying Daggers" off OB4CL2....daaaaamn. Track is hot.

Raekwon played a free show in Staten Island last week. But he only played one track off Cuban Linx 2 and it wasn't House of Flying Daggers. Was kinda bummed about that. He mostly did 36 Chambers tracks with his brother. I definitely expected a lot more people for a free show in his hometown as well. But the location (The Projects) probably had something to do with that. Fucking cops EVERYWHERE.

Jay-Z - Reminder (Blueprint 3) Track

Yes. Yes! This is exactly what every Jay-Z album since The Black Album has lacked: a track where he just talks shit over a Timbaland beat. It's so simple and straightforward! No whisper flow! No boring-ass "grown and mature" posturing! Actual confident, nimble rapping! Wow! This sort of thing was his bread and butter back when he was an actual relevant, interesting artist. I mean, check the run-down: "Jigga What, Jigga Who," "Dirt Off Your Shoulders," "Hola Hovito," "Snoopy Track," "It's Hot (Some Like it Hot)," "Come and Get Me," "Big Pimpin." Those are some of the best Jay-Z songs ever! This obv. isn't quite on that level, but it's as close as he's come to re-capturing the transcendental arrogance of his best work in, like, forever. Too bad it'll probably end up being the only good song on Blueprint 3. Oh well :-\

Drake "Forever" feat. Eminem, Kanye West & Lil' Wayne

Forever remix. Drake does ok, Kanye does ok, Lil Wayne does horrible then Eminem rips a new asshole on their verses.
Good song. Although it is strange to hear Eminem on a track like this (he's done it before - "Smack That" anyone?) I guess that will shut up the "Eminem is afraid to get on a track with Lil Wayne" people. How that discussion ever started in the first place, I will never know. And I agree with #1, Jay-Z just seems so bored now but that track reminds of Jay during 2001-2003 period.

Anyone heard the Slaughterhouse that leaked today? I'm 2 tracks in and it's pretty good so far.
I got it last week. Way after the leak, obv. But I like it a lot. The opening track especially.

Yeah, the opening track was insane.

Also a heads up to everyone, the Blueprint 3 has leaked.

The Game's got an official leak mixtape too, for The R.E.D Album called The R.E.D Files. some old shit, some new shit. There's a track with Luda that's straight bannanas.

Oh and Eminem murdered everybody on that Drake track. That track is in heavy rotation right now.

So, Blueprint 3 leaked. Initial Reaction: Looked at in a vacuum, from a purely formalist perspective, it's leagues better than either Kingdom Come or American Gangster. Jay's rapping is more energetic and inspired than it was on either of those and the production is, for the most part, a lot more dynamic and interesting (I credit this largely to the increased presence of Kanye and Timbaland on the boards. Both were largely absent from those other two albums). When looked at in the broader context of Who Jay-Z Is (or Was, as it were) it becomes somewhat more difficult to praise. This is the product of an aging icon desperately grabbing at relevance. He spends half the album nakedly and pathetically pandering to the Williamsburg set ("featuring Luke Steele of Empire of the Sun"? Are you fucking kidding me?) and then turns around and tries to assert that he's still some kind of super-cool trendsetter. It's all quite sad. What makes it worse is that it didn't have to be this way. If he'd just stayed gone after The Black Album his legacy would have been assured. Instead he now risks becoming the rap version of The Rolling Stones: an act whose early triumphs are ultimately overshadowed by a would-be-funny-if-it-wasn't-so-sad refusal to just fucking go away.

I heard some of the tracks and this album is quickly becoming one of my favorite rap albums of this decade. Hell, D.O.A. is my favorite rap track of the last 2 years with his on point of too much damn autotune out there.

Jay Z Book of Rhymes from Bill Maher

I really would have hoped Maher was above fawning bullshit like this, or, if not, that he would save it for a Hero Of The Left like Chomsky or a weed activist like Marc Emery, but here it is guys. A big B on the front for Brooklyn.

I can't even bring myself to watch that. I'm scared I'll cringe so hard that I pull a muscle.

I'd really like to hear Jay-Z and Eminem do another song one day, but thanks to that little line on "Ether", that will never happen.

Thanks, Nas. :-\

Eminem doesn't need to embarrass Jay Z again. I don't know why people would want to do songs with Eminem. He goes hard when he's with other artists.

Good fuck OBFCLII is going to be ridiculous. "10 Bricks, "New Wu" and "House of Flying Daggers" have all been goddamn bangers so far.

That shit is Raekwon.

Jay-Z said:
Grizzly Bear is an incredible band. The thing I want to say to everyone-- I hope this happens because it will push rap, it will push hip-hop to go even further-- what the indie rock movement is doing right now is very inspiring. It felt like us in the beginning. These concerts, they're not on the radio, no one hears about them, and there's 12,000 people in attendance. And the music that they're making and the connection they're making to people is really inspiring. So I hope that they have a run where they push hip-hop back a little bit, so it will force hip-hop to fight to make better music. Because it can happen. Because that's what rap did to rock. When rock was the dominant force in music, rap came and said, "Y'all got to sit down for a second, this is our time." And we've had a stranglehold on music since then. So I hope indie rock pushes rap back a bit because it will force people to make great music for the sake of making great music.
If Jay-Z needs to make a better record than Veckatimest, he won't have to try too fucking hard. And I think Jay-Z sucks! But man, Jay-Z giving props to Grizzly Bear is like the ultimate confluence of hipsterdom or something.

As for the second part of what he said, I don't really believe that rap ever usurped rock in any qualitative sense. People just started listening to rap more because it was marketed better.

I'm really loving Cuban Linx II. It's not as good as the original (obv.) but it's a worthy sequel.

If it's a serious question, Cuban Linx (Links) are a type of chain. Some pendants are only built to be held by cuban links because they are so heavy. "Only built for cuban links"

Also, they called it that because the album introduced a heavy slang that Raekwan used. The CD was made for people that understood the slang. the album was "Only built for cuban linx"
