Cause at least he tries, you can tell in his writing. Jay-Z has always coasted on talent, just ran out of shit to say so he sounds lazier than ever.

Real New Yorkers like Nas.

You ain't no real New Yorker then
I was born and raised in Brooklyn. I was never crazy about Jay-Z either. Endless props for his "too much west coast dick lickin" line at the beginning of 22 Two's, though. Some of his stuff is tight, no doubt, but it's overblown imo. He hasn't been good in years.

I don't worship Nas either so maybe I'm an awful New Yorker. I enjoy listening to Nas more than Jay-Z though. That's for sure.

On a slightly different note, can people get off this 2008 Illuminati shit already?

Watch The Throne is pretty bad. I don't know why I'm even slightly surprised by this.

I don't pretend to listen to a lot of rap, but there is stuff that I have liked in the past, so I'm not an expert on the genre. I do, however, know when something sounds good, and this album does not. I agree that Jay-Z is basically coasting on his past and knows that whatever he puts out, people will eat up, and Kanye is always a popular artist. This album is just lazy and not very good at all. There are a few times the album does have something good going, but I'm surprised that the publications that are giving it a good review are doing so.

Wait, are you all listening to the same "Watch the Throne" that I am? Murder to Excellence, The Joy, No Church in the Wild, Otis, Gotta Have It, Who Gon Stop Me, New Day, Niggas in Paris and Primetime are all excellent songs. Then again, this is the same group that thinks Odd Future are some sort of groundbreaking visionaries.

I don't mind IV. It's a lot better than I expected. It's a lot more straight rap than III, which is a mistake seeing as he isn't a great conventional rapper, but it's a solid album. Not bad enough to hate, not good enough to love.

holy shit Carter IV makes Watch the Throne sound like Illmatic. Wanye is dust.

I need to listen to early Wayne, cause my sister/a lot of my friends are obsessed with him and are always blasting some horrible autotuned bullshit that makes me wonder how he ever got so big. Most of the "music" was Weezie making weird noises in autotune over a meh beat while someone else does all the work and raps. Hopefully, Tyler The Creator or anyone else continue to gain momentum and becomes the new biggest thing in hip hop.

Early Wayne really isn't that good either. It's kind of a mystery to me how he got to be so highly regarded. I guess it was during one of the Carter albums.

Well, people will buy anything. He started to tout himself as the best rapper ever, he has some nice punchlines, good beats, and lots of swag and also became extremely popular in a dead period where Eminem sucked and was like dying and shit and Jay-Z became lazy. Kanye and Lil Wayne stepped up. The only thing he's good at is doing hooks for The Game. Otherwise he's garbage. Actually, I take that back. He was good when he did the NUMBER 1 STUNNA WHAT WHAT WHAT.

He worked like no one else has before to get to that level. If you show up on a bunch of stuff like he did with nice punchlines... people will notice.
