The Trump Presidency: Now auditioning for 51st State

We still have 3 years+ of bullshit they can try to do to skirt around this but at least they're acknowledging it now.

The president made the statement begrudgingly, and seemed to still hold out some hope that he could stay in office beyond the end of his term in January 2029. “Based on what I read, I guess, I’m not allowed to run,” he said. “So we’ll see what happens.”

Johnson poured cold water on the idea in a press conference Tuesday, telling reporters that Trump knows he can’t run again and only does so to irritate critics.

“It’s been a great run, but I think the president knows, and he and I’ve talked about, the constrictions of the Constitution,” the speaker said.

And stuff like this continues to definitely be on the "up and up" regarding personal stuff that Trump wants to do for himself in the guise of doing it for the President/US on the whole.

President Trump on Tuesday fired all six sitting members of a board that oversees architecture in Washington, D.C., CBS News has confirmed, as the president plans a slate of major building projects in the capital city — including a massive White House ballroom.

"We are preparing to appoint a new slate of members to the commission that are more aligned with President Trump's America First Policies," a White House official told CBS News.

The 2026 "midterm convention" will be about electing new representatives and senators who will vote for anything that ensures a lifelong term. It'll be the litmus test while they throw out the usual vitriol as other policy positions.

"Fred Smith is a true patriot, who supports the military as well as the American Stability Act. Vote Fred Smith, for a secure, safe future."

I assume the last time we had a parallel of that was some 160 years ago during the Civil War. Before that, 1812. It might not be a good thing.

it's so obvious they would lose this case and it only makes them look weak and stupid.

Dick Cheney died. While his vote for Harris was good, as was standing up for his daughters, history was not changed by his acts after Jan 6. It can't be understated how integral his and Bush Jr's administration, as well as Fox News's welded attachment to that admin, was to the current state of affairs with Trump. Bush/Cheney was the biggest govt in the history of the United States, eclipsing even the Reagan 80s, but has since been topped (even this early in a second term) by Trump. The weaponization of justice and policing, somewhat eased, even in GOP admins, since Nixon, rose again with Bush/Cheney, paused again (no amount of willful water toting will change this) during Obama and Biden's terms, but has has now both escalated and entrenched itself far beyond what Nixon, Mitchell, etc were doing. Insanely expensive and soulcrushing, military adventurism around the world, and on the streets of the United States, has flourished beyond 2004 era Cheney or Rummy's wildest blooddrenched dreams.

The complicitness of media, led by Fox, was as vital to the Iraq War happening and destroying so many lives as the admin itself. That complicitness has now, in the second Trump elite term, has become something even more heinous, more willful. More evil. It is also more pervasive after that earlier Fox foundation was lain. It is now mainstream. It is now every single major media outlet.

While the 1980s can explain the 'why' of Trump, it is Bush/Cheney/Fox that shows us the 'how.'

Satan is now making sure that every gun in hell is locked away lest half ol' scratch's face be blown off in an unfortunate hunting accident.

My first thought is to make a joke that he looks like he shat himself and is trying to hide it. My second thought is that this photo really defines him as a person and defines The United States at the moment. Like it totally sums up his personality and general attitude for his entire life. And MAGA is pretty much the same. Although, even freaking Stephen Miller is acknowledging the fainting person. Wtf.

"But upon returning to the Capitol, the senators made it very clear: They planned to blow Trump off. One GOP senator, Mike Rounds of South Dakota, laughed out loud when asked about the anti-filibuster push.

But with Tuesday’s stunning election losses crystallizing the risks to downballot Republicans in 2026 and beyond, there are growing signs that lawmakers are contending with the facts of their political lives: He’ll be gone in just over three years, while they’ll still be around.

One Republican already liberated from reelection concerns openly vocalized frustrations Wednesday as Trump pushed for the end of the filibuster — something many in the GOP fear would backfire soon enough once Democrats regain power.

Many are privately signaling they’re prepared to break with Trump if he doesn’t allow Republicans to negotiate on an extension of the Obamacare insurance subsidies Democrats are demanding. Others blamed the president and his top budget aide, Russ Vought, for favoring hardball moves such as canceling blue-state transportation projects and firing federal employees that only served to cause Democrats to dig in further.

They also know, third-term musings of questionable constitutionality aside, Trump will never run for office again — which had many acknowledging that, if not fully reckoning with, the fact it might not be a great idea to hew so closely to Trump’s agenda."

I couldn't find the WTF Scotus thread (was there ever a wtf scotus thread?) but this will do. The Supreme Court's latest abject pandering for Trump was allowing him to keep withholding SNAP from Americans.

I hope he's right and the American people finally (are starting to) know it.

If you take my premiums plus what my employer pays for the plan that covers my wife and I, it's around that much.

Given the GOP Playbook/Project 2025, it legitimately wouldn't shock me if this SNAP/Food stuff is a tactic from Trump to starve people (above & beyond disguising it behind the shutdown). Snuff made mention of this but more details below.

"Sauer told the court that Wisconsin immediately filed for 100% of its residents’ benefits to be placed on their electronic benefit transfer cards. But the USDA rejected the request because it had not yet had time to comply with McConnell’s order. That resulted in the state overdrawing its letter of credit by $20 million.

Similarly, Kansas issued full benefits worth nearly $32 million to approximately 86,000 households in the state, Sauer said.

Kansas Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly reacted to the Supreme Court’s action in a statement Friday night, saying, “Today, in accordance with a court’s order and after receiving guidance from the USDA, Kansas sent full November SNAP benefits to all eligible Kansans. These Kansans, most of them children, seniors, or people with disabilities, were struggling to put food on their plates.”

The agency opted to fund partial benefits, but warned it could take weeks or months for some states to recalculate the allotments and distribute the assistance."

"Hours before the Supreme Court’s order, the USDA released a memo to states saying it was working to comply with the order. That led to New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts directing state agencies issuing SNAP benefits in full for November."

"The Department of Agriculture was slated to send out monthly allotments for November that are 65 percent of the typical maximum allotments, according to a memo the USDA sent to state agencies Wednesday. As of Saturday, it is unclear whether those allotments have been carried out as prescribed in the memo.

But Democratic state leaders have continued to urge the administration to tap into a separate Agriculture Department account, called Section 32, to renew funding to the program.

The Trump administration has said it doesn’t have the funds needed to restore full SNAP payments amid the ongoing shutdown. Officials argue that directing additional funds toward SNAP would pull money away from funding child nutrition programs."

"The recent moves have deepened confusion for the 42 million Americans who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) payments, which help feed one in eight U.S. households.

The administration has also cracked down on grocery stores giving discounts to SNAP recipients, writing in an email to grocers that doing so would be a SNAP violation."

Came across this while walking yesterday. An entire field of unharvested soybeans that's been left to wither away. This is good, right?

That was considered reasonable and eloquent for the US President to say for at least a third of the country. People wonder why I don't smile much anymore.
