Well, that kind of makes sense. It, along with Southpaw, are completely unlike any of his other albums, including Smiths stuff. It also had a few singles. It seemed to be around the time he stopped releasing singles separately from albums.

Oh, for various reasons I got burned out on the Smiths a long time ago. If I'm mood to listen to anything Moz-related these days, it's usually his solo stuff.

Ooh, good one.

1. Individual Thought Patterns
2. Symbolic
3. Human
4. Leprosy
5. The Sound of Perseverance

ITP is right there in my favorite metal albums ever. LaRoque and Chuck's duelling solos on there are fucking astounding, and then throw in Hoglan and DiGiorgio? That's a disgustingly good lineup

Essential metal albums:

1. Slayer- Reign in Blood
2. Death- Individual Thought Patterns
3. Black Sabbath- Master of Reality
4. Mercyful Fate- Don't Break The Oath
5. Neurosis- Through Silver In Blood

Covers a lot of bases, nothing TOO obscure. Pretty happy with that, actually.

Yeah, everything I've heard off of Individual Thought Patterns has been solid as hell. I get that they're important as hell to metal (especially considering an entirely massive sub-genre that seems to take up the majority of metal bands over the last 20 years was pretty much fucking named after them) and Chuck was an insane musician, but I can always find a few other bands doing similar things to them that I enjoy more.

Although saying I'm not a fan of Death isn't accurate, but it's almost like saying you're not a fan of Death is akin to saying you don't care much for Black Sabbath or Venom: your opinion loses credibility in the eyes of other metalheads, even if you like a lot of the same stuff as them.

My version of the top 5 essential metal albums (trying to spread out by genre, importance therein, and my own personal enjoyment)
1. Slayer - Reign in Blood
2. Cannibal Corpse - Tomb of the Mutilated
3. Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast
4. Immortal - Sons of Northern Darkness (though, admittedly, I'm not much of a black metal fan)
5. Mastodon - Blood Mountain (I've soured on them a whole hell of a lot recently, but this was practically THE metal album the year it came out)

Classic rock songs that I like more than Steve Miller Band's "The Joker" but less than Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Look At Little Sister":

1. U2-In the Name of Love
2. Fleetwood Mac-Tusk
3. Don Henley-Dirty Laundry
4. Steppenwolf-Magic Carpet Ride
5. 38 Special-Hold On Loosely

Bizarre rankings. How could I ever have thought that Terror Twilight was better than literally anything. I would now say that every Pavement album is superior to the one that came after.

I didn't do a very good job of staying up to date this year, so these are all relatively 'high profile' releases. Gonna try to correct that in 2013.

Yeah, last night. I liked it just fine, but I can't see it becoming part of my regular rotation.

I thought that Chromatics album Alfie mentioned was pretty bad.

I strongly doubt that either Kill for Love or Coexist would have made the cut if I hadn't devoted most of my 2012 listening to discovering more specialised stuff (krautrock, techno, garage rock) from yesteryear.
