It should surprise no one that I'm making this thread.

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/974/974289p1.html

The big news, isn't that there's going to be another Fallout game. The big news is that Bethesda has outsourced the game. Who did they outsource it to? Obsidian Entertainment, who are the remainders of Black Isle Studio. Who, ironically, created Fallout 1 and 2.

Fallout 3 wasn't perfect, but it was a good try. But taking the foundation of Fallout 3, and throw in the Black Isle talent for storyline, NPC's, and overall game world structure? Buys. Lots of buys.

I'm interested to know how they'll treat the canon. New Reno in Fallout 2 was a completely functioning city to the level not seen in Fallout 3 (Aside from maybe Rivet City). Placing the game around there would be interesting.

I never played Fallout 1 or 2, but I absolutely loved Fallout 3, so I'm kind of saddened that it's being outsourced. I had no problems with the way Bethesda handled Fallout 3.

New Reno wasn't exactly my favorite area in Fo2, but Obsidian having the reigns can't be a bad thing.

I just hope they'll use the Power Armor stats the originals had, and not Bethesda's nerfed versions. And the better dialogue, more play options, fix a few of the SPECIAL stats..

I don't think I've ever seen anyone like New Reno.

Since the game will be taking place relatively close to the West from Fallout 2, I could see the re-emergence of large cities. The whole reasoning was that the East had been nuked worse and thus had no major cities...but they can't use that for a more western setting.

*I* know I'd like to take a stroll through Vault City or a similar city in a Fallout 3 game myself.

I was perfectly happy with Fallout 3--probably my pick for the best game to come out last year--but this is really cool too. The Black Isle team using the Fallout 3 engine as a base has tremendous potential. The west coast setting and the development team means we'll probably get a lot more history relating to the places and people we knew in the first two games, which is super-cool.

Heres hoping they treat it a little better than that poo that was KOTOR II

That has a lot to do with LucasArts. They wanted the game rushed out for Christmas release, and Obsidian (obviously) didn't even get a chance to finish it. There's a massive amount of stuff cut from the game.

I like parts of New Reno. There's so much to do, and so many people to interact with. However, it just doesn't feel very..Fallouty.

As far as NV goes, I have to wonder when they'll set it. Van Buren - the "original" Fallout 3 was supposed to be set in the same area as 2, around ten years later.

I didn't think KOTOR2 was awful, in fact I thought it was pretty good, but the end was really stupid because of them being rushed. It was a good game probably through the completion of the 4 areas you can do in any order, then it falls apart.

I had its moments, and seemingly was building towards a very good ending, then "headshot" it just ended and we are left wondering wtf was the point.

Im wondering will the new fallout game go back to the turn based attack stylings of the first two, could be interesting.

I really doubt they will do that after the success of 3. Turn based RPGs are generally more of a niche market in the US.

Same, but I'm hoping this means they're packing it with more content than the last two DLCs.

At least they're changing some of the sillier things about the ending. I mean why couldn't your
immune to radiation followers, like the Super Mutant, Ghoul, or freakin' robot turn it on instead?
Now they can.

I'd also like an evil path through BS, and a better evil follower. Good gets Fawkes or Star Paladin Cross, Neutral get Sgt. RL-3 or Butch (okay, so he's not that great), and evil nets you Clover or Jericho, both of whom are pretty weak. I wouldn't even mind another "can join anybody" follower like Charon.

I disagree with Clover being weak. I've found her by far the strongest of the NPC's I've used. She's actually halfway intelligent, and won't screw you over. With the...T1...whatever power armor, I've never even seen her in trouble.

Contrast this with Charon who'd die constantly because he'd charge anything that looked funny at him. Sargent and Dogmeat could barely survive for ten seconds at level 20 it felt like.

Fawkes is super strong, but...you get her(him...it...) so late in the vanilla game that it isn't even worth it. Never tried Star though.

Clover's been with my evil character from level 10 or so to hours after hitting level 20.

Speaking of the DLC...I tried the Pitt today. I hadn't had any enthusiasm for it after Anchorage. I was having a blast using my evil character, and just murdering my way through...but then the game goes "That won't work!", pulls a cut scene on me, and has my level twenty near immortal character beaten up with nothing I can do.

Silly me for thinking Bethesda would have given gameplay options. If I got beat, then the game pulls a "okay, you were just knocked unconscious" that's one thing, but to have my uber character beaten with tire irons while I'm packing a one shot Plasma rifle and can do nothing made me very, very angry.

I hope they invest in a good ending this time around. It sucks to spend so much time on the game and to only get like maybe a five minute ending that really wasn't all that great. For the next one I hope they give you a run down of some of the stuff that happened to the characters due to your actions. They had in the first two and I think it needs to comeback. Bottomline, I hate it when game endings are shorter than the credits.

The T-51b is the best PA in the game, in terms of damage reduction. It still doesn't hold a candle to it's performance in Fallout 1/2, however. A lot of that has to do with Bethesda's bungling of stats, removal of Damage Threshold, and a flat Damage Resistance instead of varied by damage type.

Yeah, I'm just slightly irked by anybody with a bat, or a radroach/molerat/bloatfly being able to punch through my PA. *twitch*

Part of my lack of enthusiasm for the evil followers is partially AI, and partially character based. Clover's AI seems a bit..suicidal, and Jericho whines too fucking much. On the good side, Fawkes is by far the most resilient companion in the game, and SP Cross can take almost as much damage as he does. Sarge's main weakness is that he has fairly low HP, and unlike everybody else, can't be upgraded with better equipment. Dogmeat has more or less always sucked, but he was fairly good for pulling critical hits in the originals.

I didn't like that bit about The Pitt, either. Plus, that's the only way you can enter? Given the hints about how Raiders from all over are flocking to The Pitt, dressing appropriately and talking your way through should have been an option. Or just shooting your way through. Hell, even sneaking in using a Stealth Boy/Chinese Stealth Armor should have worked.

Broken Steel came out today.

I haven't done the new quest line, more or less just walked around enjoying the new level cap. Bethesda's done something to the game though. Either how the game registers monster spawning has changed or the game's encounter rate has been way ramped up. In just an hours play I ran into some heavy situations.

The first, was I found my way to those Sat towers that are usually infested with Raiders. Not this time. There were heavily armored Talon Mercs in this one, with two guys on ramp ways with rocket launchers. The turrent in the tower was heavy duty as well. Usually two blasts take them out, this one took almost an entire clip from my Plasma rifle.

After that, I was strolling along when I came across Raiders. No big deal. But then I noticed HEAVY explosions, as they were swarmed by a bunch of Giant Radscorpions. After they wiped each other out, I picked up the pieces, but it was a huge fight.

Then the final one I saw, was I was walking along, when I saw a pack of Mirelurk Hunters. Odd, where I was. So I fired at them. I then noticed I was being hurt from behind. Behind me was two Giant Radscorpions. At the same time I had three Mirelurk Hunters and two Giant Radscorpions. My character and Clover killed them, after much healing...Only for me to hear "OVER THERE!" from Clover, I looked right as a Hunter came out of nowhere, blasted her, and killed her. After I killed this FOURTH Hunter, I stumbled onto a Mirelurk King not far away.

That was in about...45 minutes of play then I spent another 15 recooping. Just *BAM*BAM*BAM one after the other.

Finished the MQ in Broken Steel. I liked it better than either The Pitt or O:A, since it doesn't feel the need to nerf your character before doing any of the quests. A bit disappointed at the end of it since..
You have a few choices on what to hit with that missile strike, but the only ones that really matter are: The Enclave Mobile Base or The Citadel. Nuking the Citadel gets you a bunch of negative Karma, and access to a metric ton of ammo and a special gun. Going the "good" route, nuking the Enclave MB? Zip. Zilch. Nada. You get two more mini quests that net you caps, but if you're NOT swimming in caps already, there's something wrong.

Also, they just sort of..kill President Eden. While you're out cold. Even if you left him alive in the MQ. I'm kind of ticked there's no real evil route through this, especially after Eden's dialogue to you if you agreed to do what he wanted.

Meh. Some of the new monsters are fucking hard, but I have the most trouble with the Feral Ghoul Reavers. They can soak tons of damage, and since they're almost always at close range, it's tough to use most of your decent heavy damage weapons against them.

Still, it adds a bunch of side quests, though only two new suits of armor?

I decided to start a new character first so I could fully take advantage of the new level cap. Did 3 dog introduce some songs by name and artist before and I just completely missed it, or is that new to BS?

I got it recently too and love it, but I always stop and start another character. I'm well through the Main Quest and I want to go back and start over.

I'd like to get the DLC, but should I wait till after I get it to start again? Is it all stuff to do after vanilla F3?

Now that the Broken Steel one is out it doesn't matter when you play them since that DLC takes away the "can't play after completing the game" aspect. So it doesn't matter when you'd want to do them really.

I played through the whole game leveling up to 20 (at the time...with Broken Steel you can go to 30 now) playing as good and evil. Then I just loaded up old saves to get the neutral achievements.

If you want to get the most out of it all you should finish the one you're doing and then go back and choose all the opposite options. That's what I did.

You don't need to start again, but I did. Mainly so
I could go through Operation Anchorage and get the Power Armor training without having to wait for the main quest. You also get a suit of PA that never degrades.

Guys, talk me in to Fallout 3.

Every time I go for a new game I pick it up and read it and almost pull the trigger but I am new to XBox 360 so I end up going for the older and cheaper games that I never got a chance to play.

Is paying the extra money now worth it while it's still priced as a new game? Or would it be a better idea to wait for the GOTY edition in October?

Buy it now if you see it for $30 anywhere, but otherwise, wait for the GOTY edition.

I really need to go back to this game. I had put around 35-40 hours into it, then school started in February. I haven't played it in over 3 months, and that's a shame since it's one of the best games of this generation.
